Nusantara: Legend of The Winged Ones is an adorable visual novel which made an indelible impression on me. I highly recommend it to any otome fans! It has three lovely routes. One of the rare cases when it's really hard to choose which love option I liked more. Absolutely each of them is incredibly sweet and impressive with quite distinguished personalities. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1593229578 The creator recommends to play the routes like this: Mitra, Rama, Reksa. I totally agree with it! Now there's a guide on steam, as some choices may be not that obvious to reach all achievements and 6 endings. Not only were main love interests greatly portrayed but side characters also are interesting and believable despite the setting being a magical village. By the way, it's one of the best features of the game for me personally—magic mixed with Indonesian culture. I even googled to check some facts and words and they were real. There's also a cute encyclopedia in the game which is educational and makes the whole experience so realistic. After “Nusantara” men with wings have become one of my favorite magical creatures! They look awesome! Though at first glance art seemed not the best I've ever seen in visual novels but quite soon I was totally engrossed in the story and all visuals marvelously helped to deliver the story. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1591654364 Despite being a very sweet romantic novel, the game has some dark sides as well: bloody and cruel fights, war, death, hints of suicide. Some bad endings are really heartbreaking! Though for me it makes the game more complex, offering quite a variety of intense emotions! Plus, I really enjoyed how the focus in such cases was not on some gory visuals but exclusively on the text. The created story turned out to be greatly captivating and enchanting! https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1595201541 Music, writing, art—absolutely everything is amazing in this otome VN. And the developer is very open to any feedback. They even offer the list of questions on the store page as they “are always looking for ways to improve”. It's not something I often see, that's really nice when players' opinions matter! Their second game “Nusantara: Bermuda Triangle“ is in development and I can't wait to play it! I liked the premise, characters, and story, so overall I'd say it's a good game worth the $5. Unlike most games, I honestly can't say which character I like the most, they're all so unique! Basically, I'd say buy this game. It's worth it. And now for my dry humor section, enjoy overly simplified summaries of the boys. (Mild Spoilers) Mitra:
Giant Teddy Bear with pure grade fluff
Rama:
Angst Nugget dipped in a bit of Yandere Sauce
Reksa
Tsundere boy with manufactured daddy issues
As the lead proofreader for LotWO, my review may seem slightly biased but I will try to be as honest as possible: Pros: - The story is absolutely charming. I'm an otome veteran and I find that sometimes with small-team otome, the stories can sometimes become a little cliche, but SweetChiel has written something genuinely delightful. - All three of the romance options are genuinely interesting. They do, perhaps, fall a little into otome tropes (Mitra is the sweet and caring one, Reksa is the tsundere and Rama is the quirky one) but I never felt that detracted any from them. - The main heroine is great! She is feisty and street-smart, clever and speaks her mind. This is one of my favourite things about the game as I hate otomes where the heroine is a shy little wallflower. Things To Work On: (Note: These are things of which SweetChiel is aware and is actively working to solve for the upcoming sequel!) - Some inconsistency in the quality of CG artwork. All of the CGs are good but there are some issues with perspective or inconsistent appearance for some. The game was made many years ago, however, and SweetChiel has much improved since! - One or two small errors in grammar and a couple of spelling mistakes (my bad! The writer's first language is not English and, while mine is, I was proofreading alone and there was a lot of work to do...a couple of things slipped me by, even after reading he script a half dozen times! The team for the sequel is bigger and so I imagine no mistakes will escape us this time!) I could say so much more but I'll leave it there. It's a great game and it has come a long way since its first release a few years ago. We'll keep working on the sequel and any issues with LotWO that you guys point out to us will be discussed by the team so we can make sure we don't repeat the same mistakes :)
最要命的是女主已经知道了一切还说【i care about you more than i should】
毫不意外,女主挺身而出带rama直面过去,她说了句大实话
【你的白月光死了丈夫又死了儿子,正常人经不住打击都会口不择言(白月光当时说毫不在意rama)然后自杀】
我一听就大叫不好。。
果然rama的反应和reksa听到女主怼他父亲时如出一辙——【how dare you! she was not weak! she was my life! my everything!】
我:好吧。。。唯有尊重祝福。。。。女神说只有女主才能完成这个任务。。。千真万确。。。还有谁能像女主这么好脾气呢
One of the best otome games I have ever played. Great protagonist, fascinating love interests, beautiful art. I strongly recommend it. Also, Reksa is best boi.
I Initially payed this game when it was released on itch.io a couple years ago, and when SweetChiel anounced a steam release for this one midst production of the next Nusantara title i was thrilled to dive back in. Indie titles can often be great but overall forgettable, and once youre done with one you move to the next and the stories they tell can blend into some vague idea of what once was. This is not the case with this one, SweetChiel has an excellent way of creating a story that has an impact and leaves you wanting more, it was a pleasure to relive some of my favourite stories and characters and it holds its own even to this day. Delightful, heartwarming and compelling, even upon revisiting after all this time, this ones a real treasure.
I wish there was an okay button, because while this game isn't terrible, it's not amazing. This game features some unsettling topics and is meant for players of ages 13+ so with that in mind, I'll start my spoiler-free review. Pros: - Hand-drawn artwork, while not top quality you can tell a lot of love went into it and honestly isn't so bad once you get used to it. - Decent length, took me 3 hours to complete through my first gameplay, but I'm a quick reader. - Good dynamic of characters you interact with, namely one family you interact with most are really good characters, I found myself smiling a lot at their banter. - Game runs well, I had no crashes during the entire time I was playing through it. Cons: - Aside from one love interest, the other two are just...strange, I wasn't entirely sure how you'd get their routes, one of them is a complete hot mess that I'd never touch with a barge pole, the other I only saw maybe twice in the whole playthrough, but the one I romanced in the end was a good guy. I liked him best, but considering the lackluster choices, it's not much to go on :\ - Many of the characters are childish or act childish, namely the main character you play, which isn't so bad for a good chunk of the story as it's very light-hearted at times, however, since there are serious elements in this visual novel, it really sticks out like a sore thumb and just ruins the flow of the story. - Minor glitch where the textbox remained up between scenes when it wasn't supposed to be there (only a minor thing, nothing too bad). - Some of the music and sound effects are so out of place it's jarring. - Two-thirds of the way through the story I found myself getting pretty bored, not a lot was happening to progress the story and it seemed like a lot of my choices didn't matter all that much in the grand scheme of things. Overall, this visual novel wasn't awful, it just felt messy and confused, with a bit more polish and going over, it would've been something pretty good, but as it is now, I can't recommend it wholly as I found the experience to be rather lackluster and boring.
This game is beautifully written and the art is lovely. The routes aren't copy pasted like a bunch of other otome games are. I love the uniqueness of the characters and their stories. The game flows easily and the controls are smooth and easy to understand. I played this game before it came to steam and was excited to see it. I follow the creator on facebook and she is very sweet. The combination of a good game made by a good person just makes it feel like a really close to home project. I know this one is close to my heart and I look forward to her next game. ~meant to do this yesterday but got busy and forgot lol.
Nusantara: Legend of the Winged Ones
On the way home to go live with her uncle, Tamara is chosen by the Goddess of Fate to save the world of Nusantara. Here, she learns there is a growing war between winged Avians and Komodo warriors whose fates are directly tied to her own. Three people can help change the outcome of this war and lead the world of Nusantara to prosperity and healing, but Tamara must learn how to earn their trust and trust them in return. Difficult times are ahead in a world behest with violence and betrayal. Will Tamara discover what it means to be part of a true family in a world she had been unceremoniously thrown into or will doubt and uncertainty lead to her ruin and towards the path of unhappy vengeance? This is Nusantara in a nutshell. It is not a game of epic proportions so don’t expect to be reading LOTR or GOT or something similar, but for the price - you are getting a great deal. It is a story that explores themes of rape, suicide, death, torture, and violence so be prepared, but it does try to go easy on you through the use of some lighthearted humor. The choice of the suitor you pick will depend on the level of darkness that your story will take. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1832735717 Mitra is the easiest route of the three as he is a reliable, lovable, and a noble character who tries his best for his people. I would recommend his route first as it seems to have the least amount of story depth, not only by the softness to which his route does in exploring those themes of war and death, but it also it has the least CG’s out of the three. At the same time there are a lot of tender cute moments to be found in his route, so you shouldn’t be disappointed. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1832735790 Rama, was by far, the most difficult route. I am not going to go into too much detail, but he is the most tortured soul of the three and requires a great deal of patience and self-sacrifice from Tamara in order to earn his trust. He is a character that effectively pushes people away, including the protagonist, but it was refreshing to see a story where the MC works hard to save someone determined to die. I expected frustration in this route and I certainly got it as I wondered if any of my efforts would result in anything positive. Life is not a fairy tale and Rama’s route shows it. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1832735880 Reska is the next route, which isn’t as dark as Rama’s, but far from the easy-going route I found in Mitra. Here we have a character who feels a desperate need to prove himself and regain his honor, but he has a hard time opening himself up due to a tough upbringing and harsh expectations. Whereas Mitra will offer his support to Tamara, unreservedly, and Rama, grudgingly; Reska will offer his support unconditionally after you’ve earned his trust. Please give this VN a try, it is worth it! The drawings are awesome while I did happen to notice very few and minor grammatical errors, but nothing that will impede on your ability to enjoy this VN to its full potential. I would highly recommend it. I cannot wait until Bermuda Triangle is Released!!!
Don't be fooled by my Steam playtime of this game - I've got at least 40 hours from playing it on itch.io. That's the real beauty about this game - it brings you back, and this was the visual novel that sparked an interest in becoming a creator of them myself. So while I've been watching updates on Nusantara: Bermuda Triangle's progress drift into my inbox for a couple of years now, I found myself coming back to where my fascination with the series all started. There are three routes, and I find myself struggling to choose which one I'm going down every time I come back to play. Will I fall for the gentle Mitra, the angst-ridden Rama, or Reksa, who activates my weakness for tsunderes? But no matter which route you choose, each is excellently written and will definitely emit strong emotions from the reader. This can also be credited to the wonderful protagonist, Tamara, who is compassionate, independent, and usually quite practical. The writing makes you laugh and cry - it doesn't keep things pretty just because it's an otome game. It contains real human grief and pain, but on the other side of that real human joy, and even the amusements from the little things such as family teasing. I related a lot to Tamara and her feeling as though she'd found a new family - I had to wipe away a few tears too. The writing does a brilliant job with side characters. Yuda is my favourite character in the entire game, and I love the way you get to see him go from this wary warrior around you, to essentially just your older brother. With all of that considered, the art could have been terrible and I still would have loved this game to pieces, and that's where it gets better - the art is gorgeous! The backgrounds are brilliant, and there is a wonderful palette of earthy tones used throughout the game that I LOVE. The CGs are a pleasure to look at, and as an amateur artist who has much to learn, I was staring at these for much longer than intended just studying the use of colour and shading. One thing that I appreciated is the battle scenes. They aren't just two sprites sitting static on the screen with the occasional whip sound effect. I remember in particular a war dance between two characters, and the two sprites in question were never just static, and it really kept the anticipation for me going. SweetChiel took Ren'Py and all its capabilities and made something that really brings out the engine's strengths. There are still a few typos and grammar mistakes scattered throughout, but it didn't ruin the experience at all, and I barely noticed them. Coming back to it again has only reminded me how much I love reading through each route. I sincerely hope you give it a chance, as it's a real gem that's been sold for almost nothing. Again, I must reiterate that there is no reason for you not to try this game if you love otome games.
