For a game i used to love this has over time become a soulless cash grab
When this game first came out, this was an amazing game, but after the devs decided to abandon this game, they screwed everything about this game up before leaving, not worth getting not worth even testing it. It went from being a 8/10 to a crappy 1/10...... ***Update**** So me and my buddy would always come back and play this from time to time, the last time we came back the game was totally a nightmare, we used to play on hard difficulty and it would be hard but it wouldnt be cheating, A.I. Now cheats at every corner, its no longer difficulties but how hard the AI. cheats at the game, the game is also super laggy now, like as soon as you click to move your troops the game jumps frames, its horrible. Both my friend and myself have also seen disconnects from the both of us, The main reason we stopped is we had a bug where are troops wouldnt hit the buildings of the A.I. so if they have a tower or if they are the turtle clan you wouldnt be able to do crap. I am sure there are definitely more but those are the key ones that come to my mind.
I do like the conquest mode as the mission do give some twists on playing it but the horrible AI does make every mode difficult to enjoy. The difficulty changes nothing to to AIs behavior, just the ammount warriors they hire as they always have unlimited resources so while you need 15 pops to entertain 2 warriors, they have 15 warriors wihle 2 villagers gather food at their Townhall. This makes it not just "difficult" this makes it just unfair. Its no fun to play against a cheater so why should it be different if the cheater is AI. PVP does not have this problem but since every game lasts 1-2 hours and there is no rubberbanding it does drag a bit.
Northgard is an interesting concept on an RTS game consisting of nothing but vikings. You would imagine it would have a stronger focus on combat but that doesn't really seem to be the case alot of the time. Making sure you have a strong economy, keeping track of the seasons, and watching your opponents and what their goals are. These are the things that come into play when you play this game, and it really nails down just how unforgiving things can be if you aren't on top of your people's development. I've played a fair share of RTS games and the campaign does a great job of teaching you what's what. I'm not going to defend the story as it's pretty basic but, honestly, it made a solid effort and I can respect that. The UI can be somewhat "involved" so it may take abit of time to get a grasp on where to look at this and that but it's really not too bad. All in all, solid as hell game. 8/10
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME! it constantly crashes while playing Singeplayer mode.
This is a great game, and a unique take on the genre. People these days are very hard to please. If a game strikes out and does something unique, then people complain about the learning curve. They complain that the game is not like other games or the mechanics are too difficult or tedious to master. Then, if the game is a carbon copy of something else, they rightly complain about it being unoriginal, and non-innovative. Can't please everyone. This is an RTS, albeit different to what your probably used to. In terms of being "incredibly slow paced", that really depends upon the level of challenge your facing in multiplayer or your difficulty level in singleplayer. There's a decent amount of challenge here in singleplayer if you play on extreme difficulty as I did. It's not starcraft 2 and you shouldn't expect it to be. But people complaining about the game being 'incredibly slow' and yet also complaining about the difficulty of the game, are really just telling everyone without telling everyone how bad they are at the game. This is in my opinion an incredibly easy and casual game if you're playing on anything except extreme difficulty in singleplayer. There is a decent RTS/micromanagement challenge if you're on extreme difficulty and optimizing managing economy with responding to invasions from wolves, or attacking enemies and microing to optimize unit health for fights. But yes, it is primarily an economy and planning orientated game, combat is rather limited in depth. The first campaign at least the first few missions were good. I wasn't a big fan of the latter missions or the second campaign, although the second campaign is interesting in introducing new mechanics. The best challenge you will get out the singleplayer experience is extreme difficulty in solo conquest mode. I can't report on the multiplayer experience, some have reported that servers are down and the game has been abandoned on that front. If multi-player is important to you, you might second-guess buying to this. But as a singleplayer experience for an more planning/eco based RTS, I can recommend this.
The Bifrost game mode doesn't give rewards. This is a known bug that has been present and prominent for more than a year, and the devs have not fixed it yet. Superb game, but it feels abandoned.
They shut down the servers, and multiplayer hasn't worked for days now. The team is radio silent.
