Reviews
The new king of action games. Platinum delivers as usual, since they are the kings of the genre.
A wonderful spectacle fighter that nobody will play because Microslop forgot that they need to advertise the products that they publish.

The gameplay alone makes this a perfect action game.
I'm still debating it in my head because the first Bayonetta game exists, but this is (possibly) the greatest "character action game" I've ever played. If you're asking what that term even means, then I'd ask you to do the research so that I don't botch explaining what it is or which games even qualify to belong in that category. But, if you know, you know. And for me, having played them ever since 2008, I can say that my top 3 come down to this, the first Bayonetta, and Devil May Cry 4 (I know 5 and 3 are technically better in multiple areas, but for reasons I won't get into too much since this is a Ninja Gaiden 4 review, it's my favorite within the overall DMC franchise). I don't say this lightly, as while it ramps up the action even more from Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, it does so in what I considered to be a much more fair and balanced way. All of the brutality that you can dish out as both Yakumo and Ryu is absolutely glorious, and there's not a single weapon that feels bad to use or not as fun. Compared to previous mainline Ninja Gaiden games I've played (not counting Ragebound, though that was enjoyable), I felt as though this one was the most consistently enjoyable when it came to fighting bosses. The previous Ninja Gaiden games had excellent boss fights, but there were a lot more valleys to go along with the peaks, whereas this one didn't really miss for me outside of two fights (one of which is in the DLC...the other, I think I'm learning to get over). But as far as combat goes, playing as Yakumo and Ryu in this game has me feeling like how Ryu does whenever he got desperate with the Grip of Murder in Razor's Edge...in other words, it's like having 3's level of gore and visceral action on all the time instead of just in bursts. Character/story wise, I'm on board with almost all of the new character additions. I know several people don't like Yakumo as much as Ryu, but for me, he works because despite keeping calm in battle, he clearly has a chip on his shoulder that can be observed between his smack talk during battle and his attitude, and I like how that plus his move set (and his weapon kit) help to set him apart from how Ryu operates. Yakumo kills enemies in the most violent, bloody, and improvised ways possible, while Ryu's skill in both the previous games and this one are also violent, but in a way that's more technical with his executions compared to Yakumo's more unhinged manner of killing. Plus, to me, Yakumo (at least, in the English dub) has a cool mix of confidence and an eager need to prove how he is THAT guy even though everyone else (including members of his own clan) keeps gassing up "The Legendary Super Ninja". Also, without spoilers, I will say the ending is cool, but I'd recommend purchasing the Two Masters DLC since the ending for that serves as more of a true epilogue than the ending to the base game; there's not too much that the DLC offers in that regard, but it's something, and what we get is neat. I do have some nitpicks for how the game plays out as the story progresses, but all I will say is that this game is lucky I love a certain game that it takes some inspiration from; if not for that, I would have been more annoyed with certain...decisions. Overall, though, I thoroughly enjoyed this experience (even more so after replaying through the previous Ninja Gaiden games), and for fans of action IN their games, this is absolutely a must-play!
AMAZING game. If you're into ninjutsu, crazy ass pace and fast movement, this game is for you. I love it so much.
Great hack and slash game. Despite his design being way less cool than ryus, yakumo plays quite nicely. The new systems like the quick dodge and parry flow very well. Combat is brutal and beautiful to look at. However, the enviroments are extremely bland and forgettable, and even though its a fun game the "team ninja" feeling is missing. (I dont know how to describe it.) The biggest problem i have with the game is, that they should not have added ryu. He does not work well with the new/generic combat, and his kit is generally undecooked and boring in comparison to yakumo. He does not feel half as cool and powerfull as in other titles. They even put some idiotic looking armor plates on ryus butt! Why??? And made walking on water way less cool. They should have had faith in their skinny edgelord, because they just did not have it when it came to buff edgelord ryu. If you want to play as ryu or have to choose one game get Ninja Gaiden 2 Black instead. otherwise solid game.
