Amazing gameplay Amazing monster designs Amazing weapons Game doesnt work. Was debating on buying this game for a VERY long time, finally got it on a discount. Started playing, after about 2-3 hours my PC froze, and i had to do a reboot. Then it happen again and again. After third time i went online, and found out that the game have insane memory leak. And then i checked the steam performance overlay. Every 10-20 seconds game RAM usage increase by 100mb. And it slowly goes up until it eats trough all of my 32gb of ram and freezing my pc. This is disgusting, i hate it. No matter how amazing game is, this is unacceptable. First 2-3 hours was working fine, so i lost the refund window. I will still play this game, but damn it is very uncomfortable, to have to restart the game after EACH HUNT. ---------------------------------------------------------------- Just wanna add that i tried to "fix" it, with help of people from the internet, and i was suggested to turn off DLSS, and wow, it worked.... Untill it didnt, played for about 15 hours or so, without any problems, and yesterday as soon as i launched the game, my pc hang. So yea, didnt fixed it....
Wild Hearts is a great experience marred by horrible performance and, unfortunately, it doesn't matter how good your game is if people can't play it.
Trust the reviews. This game is broken and crashes/freezes constantly.
Paid full price for this game when it first came out and it was so unoptimized and unplayable that I decided to wait for a few patches to see if they would fix it. Found out later that EA abandoned it and to this day it is still unplayable on my PC.
My specs (RTX 3080, Ryzen 5600, 32 GB DDR4-3200-CL16, PCIe Gen 4 SSD) far exceed the recommended specs and I *still* get constant stuttering. And this with graphics that look extremely dated for a 2023 release. The fact that Koei Tecmo give absolutely ZERO SQUAT about optimizing games for PC is reason enough EVERYONE should click on their name, on this store page, then hit the little cog icon to the right, and then hit "Ignore" in the sub menu that opens. And that's a shame, cus underneath the rhythmic frametime spikes lies a really fresh and interesting new spin on the MH genre. I was even shocked to find that I prefer Wild Hearts' bow weapon mechanics to those of its larger competitors. If you wanna give this game a try, get it ONLY when it's for sale 90% off or more. I would be absolutely FURIOUS if I had paid the RIDICULOUS full price of 70 squid. And no, it's not that the game sucks because of EA. Sure, EA set the 70 price tag. But they didn't force Koei Tecmo to use their GARBAGE in-house Katana engine, and that's the real culprit here and the reason why I suggest boycotting them completely. EDIT: You can fix the persistent framerate stutters by limiting the framerate in your graphics driver to the same value as in-game. You *still* get shader compilation stutters every time you update your graphics driver.
*HEAVILY CAVEATED RECOMMENDATION* Let me just quickly say before getting into the game itself, I played this back on release on a PC I no longer have. It ran well with some adjustments and I was able to play the game without interruption. I recently installed the game on my newer PC (the specs of which is strictly speaking better in every way) because I felt like playing it, and I found that I could not find a way to get the game to work without serious issues that prevented me from being able to enjoy the experience. So I have to stress this: If you buy the game because the actual gameplay sounds cool to you, which it should because the game itself is awesome, keep an eye on that time played because you want to be able to refund it if you find you can't fix the stuttering issues. As far as I can tell it has nothing to do with the actual ability of your hardware so it is basically luck of the draw for whether it will work for you or not. Anyway, Wilds Hearts is to me the design philosophy of Monster Hunter: Rise, but perfected. If Rise was your favorite monster hunter game, or even if it was just something you found to be an enjoyable change of pace for MH, Wild Hearts is a game you need to check out. It is a fast paced, resource spending, somewhat arcadey version of the Monster Hunter series that just has so many little parts of the game that really build an awesome experience. The main difference between MH and Wild Hearts is that where Monster Hunter is a position focused game, Wild hearts is more of a timing game. Monsters in MH have very little tracking, but your dodges have almost no i frames, so you can avoid most attacks by simply moving to the right place when you see an animation start, but you aren't really going to be able to reactively dodge that move. Wild Hearts is the reverse. Kemono have tons of tracking and you will basically never be able to avoid an attack by simply getting out of the way (except for when you are in the air, which can be relatively often for a lot of weapons), but instead you have access to a lot of i frame tools whether that be dodge rolls, slides, or as we will discuss certain Karakuri. MIght as well talk about those now. Karakuri are Wild Hearts' unique mechanic that it brings to the Monster Hunting genre. Basically, you build up a resource called Threads by attacking monsters. With that resource, you can build several different Basic Karakuri. For example the simplest is just a Box that you can climb. But there is also stuff like a spring that lets you jump further and a hook thing that lets you attack it to a wall or monster to enable you to either sit on it or to boost yourself upwards. They all have value in and of themselves that you will want to use often both for exploring the maps and fighting the Kemono. For example Boxes stacked 3 high allow you to do a special jumping attack, and because you can build karakuri while in another animation (such as a long commitment from a big maul) you can build a spring at your feet to give you i frames and launch you out of the way of an incoming Kemono attack. Not only that, but building these basic Karakuri in certain orders can create Fusion Karakuri. These are more advance contraptions that have more direct effects. The most basic is simply a Wall that enables you to do those jumping attacks, but also acts as a barrier that Kemono have trouble breaking. But there are also things such as Traps that enable you to keep a Kemono in one place for sometime (just like a MH trap), a timed bomb contraption that blows up after a few seconds, or a diffuser that gives an AoE heal for you and any friends you are hunting with. You can think of these tools as similar in use case to special Wirebug moves from Rise. It is hard to really emphasize just how well this Karakuri system comes together and how amazingly well it melds with the weapons. You can really feel like every weapon was designed to work well with Karakuri. That isn't to say these weapons don't hold up without karakuri, but unlike in Rise with its Wirebug moves, Karakuri just flow into your weapon's movement and combos extremely well. And there is so much more to talk about. I haven't even mentioned how much you can customize the world with Dragon Karakuri and the webs of tools you can use to enable fast map traversal or ways to ambush Kemono as they cross certain areas, or even create farms. There are so many parts of Monster Hunter they Wild hearts has turned into an entire minigame, and it just adds so many layers of mechanics that are completely optional but really fun to engage with. If you want to simply just hunt the Kemono and not worry too much about the tertiary mechanics of the game, you can and you won't feel gimped by not doing so. But if you want to really dive into it, you really do feel rewarded for doing so and I love that they have really made a Monster Hunting game that feels like more than just simply a Boss Rush game in the way that Monster Hunter's tend to be. Overall I think Wild Hearts had the potential to be a proper competitor to the Monster Hunter series if the game wasn't destroyed by a bad launch due to poor optimization that plagues the game to this day. And if you can get the game to work on your machine, it is absolutely worth playing.
I tried to play past the performance issues but realized at a certain point it just ruins the experience. No reason a game that looks like this should have issues running on a 4070 at lowest settings. As long as it's been out, it's probably safe to say the issues won't be addressed. Pretty sad because the game is kinda fun but even with the 90% off sale I still wouldn't recommend it.
Easily one of the best Monster Hunter games out there but the PC port is literally unplayable and completely abandoned. Don't get this version of the game.
Held off on trying this game due to hearing about the poor performance, but seeing as it was on sale for $7, decided to give it a try, as I figured even if it runs poorly $7 was fine. Started the tutorial, got through character customization, and as I go to do the next fight, the game crashed. After that, all future attempts to continue or start a new game led to it instantly crashing, even after going down to the lowest settings. My computer was able to run Monster Hunter Wilds at almost the highest settings with minimal issues AT LAUNCH! Same for Dragon's Dogma and, more recently, Code Vein 2! How bad must this game be to perform worse than those?!?
