this is a superb action system. it's really quite unlike anything else I've played ... including, sadly, Ninja Gaiden. I just don't know I can call this that. this really should have been a spinoff - in many ways this can feel it has as much to do with Ninja Gaiden as Devil May Cry or something. it's got many of the same mechanics as NG1 and 2 but it feels almost totally removed. it's lightning fast. it's Ninja Gaiden for the hyper-activity set. if you love and expect the slower, relatively lean and realistic combat of Ninja Gaiden Black, you'll feel like a Boomer playing this game. even if you're 19. this is Ninja Gaiden eXtreme. not a bad thing, just not the thing I'd want from a Ninja Gaiden 4. I give it more than a middling recommendation, so long as you know you're NOT getting Ninja Gaiden, you're getting Hyper Cyber Ninja 1. it's good, not great, but there are moments so fluid you'll swear it's an all-timer. it's a weird one. check gameplay footage first. if you like what you see and like Ninja Gaiden, I think you'll dig the combat. the atmosphere is nice, the world is weirdly closed-in AND spread out. it's strange - the setting hasn't set for me yet. it's good enough. come for the combat and stay for the ... combat. it runs absolutely flawlessly, which is critical. in all, I'm okay with this game! I'd give my third nut to get a True remake of Ninja Gaiden 1, the best one. Ninja Gaiden Black remake with a good, stutter-free engine and a solid camera system. that'd be my jam. this is good too, though. a moderate success! I'll take it.

Definitely different from the other entries and that's a double edged sword. It's a great game and the biggest praise I can give it is that I wish there was more content. Playing as all the girls, chapter replay with any character, and bringing back coop missions in legacy levels would have really put this in the next level for me.
