The town management and city building is so unnecessary. It killed the fun for me and some Sidequest require items from the town management city building BS. 5/10, dropped at Mausinger boss fight after coming back from putting the game on hold for a long time.
So much content but 1 is better in story.
[/strike]
OVERALL: 3/10 This is a bad anime J-RPGs that feels like a mobile game. LEVEL5 Inc. is the one of the most untalented group of game makers I have ever seen. What is most enraging is that this is ALMOST a good game. Characters: 3/7 + To main character Even is actually kind of enduring +\ - Roland is introduced nicely but fails to develop OR make any meaningful statement. - Most characters are underdeveloped. - The writing is worse than FF13 in terms of writing. Most characters are thoughtless stereotypes with no depth. You end up feeling no connection to the characters. - Although the designs are reminiscent of Miyazaki (Studio Ghibli) art style, the writing does NOT live up to their standards Story 4/10: The story feels like a bad anime that does not make sense; it feels like character deployment was drastically missing! + The main story is given from a perspective that exude a feeling of childlike wonder and the hope that comes with it! + Some side quests, which are story driven, feel amazing. - At the same time, side quests feel unfinished. Some of the most enduring side characters feel under-used. For example, one town citizen is looking for love and never finds it… it feels underdeveloped. - The main big bad feels so underdeveloped that everything feels like mindless by the time the ending battle is done. - Text boxes appear in battle and disappear so fast that you are unable to read them Game Environment 8/10: The environmental designs are absolutely breathtaking, completely accentuate by the masterful cel shading. The game looks so good it almost tricks you into thinking that this might actually be good game. + Every town is distinct and feels like a lived-in place you would want to see in real life. + The designs of the town castles look amazing. + World map is very well made. - Magic spells like “bridge,” are not communicated effetely as to when and where to use them… screams incompetents from the game director. - The game uses the same exploration map environments (like forests) feel overused and repetitive. Gameplay battle system: 1/10 - Overly grindy to complete everything… even by JRPG standards. - Not enough side content to break-up monotonous battle system. - The leveling system feels slow which makes everything in the game feel like padding. - Lack of ability to dodge-cancel in the middle of attacks ruins the entire battle system! This means you are forced to take damage instead of learning from attacks. This means that characters that fast attack will always be superior to slower moving characters who become useless at higher difficulty levels. - There is not ability to use combos based off light and heavy attack combinations, which feels like missed opportunity. - The “Tactics Tweaker” lets you change which enemy types take more damage and gives you the ability to select elemental resistances for your own characters. You have to change this before EVERY Fight… making you feel like you are taking too much time in menus and not enough time playing. - The “Tactics Tweaker” player resistance selector is incompetent done because you have no way of knowing what moves enemies will use. This is beyond asinine. - During boss fights the camera will shift into a cinematic scope that shifts away from your character but at the same time your character is still able to move and is rage inducingly still susceptible to damage. - The MP system feels awful because it is used for Magic, skills, AND ammo… whereas ammo should be used separately. - Dumbest AI teammates always seem to misuse their MP on weak ranged attacks instead of useful skills! - “Dreamer Door Dungeons” and “Labyrinth Dungeons” are so repetitive they will make you hate the game and the battle system. Game Stability: 9\10 + The game only crashed 2 times in 140 hours. Crashes occur only in “Dreamer Door Dungeons” and “Labyrinth Dungeons” (DLC). WARNING: TO AVOID CRASHING. Ni no Kuni II crashes can often be resolved by verifying game files, disabling background overlays, turning off G-Sync, or forcing the game into windowed mode. The game crashes only when highly stressed by “Dreamer Door Dungeons” and “Labyrinth Dungeons” (DLC).
Fun game 200 hours
I have played through the first 3 chapters and don't plan to play any more. Evan starts off the game as a failed entitled king who didn't rule for the good of anyone and got overthrown. You then are expected to believe that he's going to now conquer the whole world and be a good ruler? I find him to bounce between annoying and generic world conquering type except for the fact he was already king and failed at it. This game doesn't retain the charm from the first game although it tries to copy the surface level elements feeling like a cheap rip off of the original property. Although combat is definitely improved between installments that's the only upgrade and you probably played the first game for its lovable characters, world and story none of which are preserved.
Maybe the worst RPG i've played, i'm so glad i got it in a bundle and not for 60 euros. There was so much to keep from the first game and there is almost nothing appealing in this one Played 8 hours so i can't say much about the story but damn the characters are uninteresting it's insane, Evan is your typical idealist 12 years old boy, which i'm ok with in this kind of story, i knew what i was going into, but Roland give up in going back to his world in 4 seconds, Tani and Batu are inexistant, and Lofty the supposed kingmaker is not even a good side character. Music is bland and sometimes even not fitting the place, the world is boring, there is loot everywhere, you can't just watch what's around you without seeing glowing stuff on the ground, and even when there is not, it has nothing wonderful like the 1st game. World map is ugly, nothing else to say, too much monsters to fight for whatever loot and if you are lucky a weapon and if you are lucky again it will be better than what you have, a MMO system in a solo game, i don't know why. The worst part has to be the fights, camera is awful, lock system is awful, you have light attack and big attack you don't know why use one and not the other, too much enemies in the fights, you have to pay attention to sometimes 8 of them and each attack deal 1/3 of your hps You have ranged attack which consumes mana but why use them when you can use skills Your higgledies are the only way you can heal without using items and they are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ random, they also miss their attack 50% of the time AI teammates looks horrible, swap to them in fight and they are full mana, with 100% on each weapon, seems to me they don't use their skills I don't get why they did this weapons system, wanted players to adapt to the enemies they face maybe, but maybe let us know what the weaknesses of the enemies are then ? I can't see any reasons to play this game, even if you liked the 1st one, don't fall in the trap
