"If you're in control, you're not going fast enough." New Star GP is a racing game developed by New Star Games and published by Five Aces Publishing. Career Mode In main mode of the game you will start your own journey through Formula 1 that spans across 5 decades (from the 1980s to the present day). You are going to be team principal of New Star Racing team AND a driver, building off the track and battling on it to fight for race wins and ultimately championships. Gameplay You can figure it out from quick mode description I wrote above, and from this being...well, a racing game. Step into the cockpit and drive as best as you can, and outside of it manage your team to improve your chances of success. Each season in carrer mode spans multiple Grands Prix where you fight for points towards overall championship leaderboard, and smaller events where you can earn games currency- "bux". Let's start with "off the track". As a leader, you will manage team staff- hire and fire people working on pitstops, engineering and PR, with each providing perks you can use like additional car improvements or bigger sponsor payouts. Their morale will improve (or worsen) depending on race results and your interviews, happier team works better and provides better buffs while angry staff can quit. Spend hard earned currency on developing your car to keep up with competition, or license tech from them to use it for some duration. You can additionally customize your driver and vehicle visually in garage and check out grand wall of trophies you might obtain across your journey! With prepared car, equipped perks and hunger to race, you can finally hit the track. While game provides few different race types such as checkpoint or elimination race, all of them can be summed up in one short sentence- faster the better. You start off the back of the grid working your way up, higher position means more points, pleased team and sponsors! With arcade style of driving controls are very easy to get used to so you can focus on the details of New Star GP. Work on overtaking, manage your nitro boost (which refills every lap!) slipstream and most importantly- figure out best strategy for the race. This is pretty much a key to win, as you can choose between tyre compound and fuel load which impact your pace. Is it worth loading up the tank to full and picking hard tyres for longer stints to 1-stop this race, or a 2-stopper on softs will be better? Oh and look at the sky, as weather can change any moment, forcing you to pit for wets! But keep an eye on the road too, as relationship with other drivers matter too. You wanna be clean in order to get clean racing. If you will make a rival on track you gonna feel it next time you race. Getting handy with one another can lead to collision and broken components, ruining your pace and requiring unplanned pitspot. So, master your racecraft, keep it clean, get the strategy right and reap the rewards! Easy? Easy. Lastly it's worth mentioning where you will drive. Of course no license means game is using tracks that are "slighty" altered and come under different names, but those who follow a racing series or two (especially F1, obviously) will figure out the tracks for sure. Same goes for drivers and teams! Playtime, replayability, other modes Depending on your desire to complete all events and racing prowess, carrer mode can take from 15 to 25 hours, with option to constantly replay previous seasons if you desire so. Like a proper arcade racing game, it comes with two extra modes! One is Championship, where as name suggests you compete in different tournaments for trophies and glory, with addition of modifiers and split screen so you can bring 3 extra buddies along! Other is a classic Hot Lap. Pick a track, pick a car, prove you have fastest one lap pace on Steam leaderboards. Impressions As someone who loves good racing, New Star GP left me mostly satisfied. Crisp retro visuals and soundtrack give a sweet 90's feel that is expanded with pure arcade driving style easy to pick up for anybody. The simplicity gets nicely filled up by mechanics on both on and off the track. Pit strategy and fight from the back of the pack give some exciting races while managing the team off the track and spending hard earned cash provides feel of progression and small window of what it's like to manage a team. Cosmetic customization is appreciated and additional modes allow you to spend even more time with a game! Tracks themselfs are fun to drive, with different event types providing great variety in Carrer Mode that made it a real pleasure to drive through. Unfortunately in this well oiled machine there are few irks. Adaptive difficulty. One day I will find a game that does such setting right, and as you can guess New Star ain't it. Right from the start I had no problems with beating opponents and winning with hefty lead, with only one or two tracks being a pain in the rear where for some reason AI gets tweaked up by 200% and dominates. So in other words, AI is unbalanced and does ruin some fun coming from races. While side events help break the mould of ordinary Grands Prix, these always coming in with same amount of laps no matter the era or track lenght felt weird and ruined the strategic angle later on. Championship mode runs only GP races so playing them solo turned out to be absolute boredom, with borked AI on top. And lastly, game could use a bit more soundtrack. What is there is good but starts to get annoyingly repetitive after those 10-20 hours. Nonetheless, if you look solely for good, not that lenghty arcade racer with extra bit of strategy, Carrer Mode in New Star GP will satisfy you. Extra modes might extend your playtime or let you bring a buddy or two for the ride if you desire so. It's not a perfect game but it's fun and that's what matters the most at the end, so I can safely recommend it. Final words and conclusion This might be a good choice to play during summer/winter F1 break! Crisp visuals, fun racing and additional management mechanics make New Star GP a sweet arcade tribute to Formula 1 worth playing. you have got to be kidding me, a fun game into the second season, game stays competitive in standings and fun racing, but no, now i have to take a DNF because the night before the race someone snuck into my pit and changed all the covers on my tires. So now i have mismatched tires during a rainstorm of things. Don't you think we would check them before the race, nope automatic DNF no chance to race at all. 1. I should get a refund this poor ass programming and writing, 2. if not a refund provide me mod to shoot missiles and lay mines down for my competitors. I was having fun until this garbage showed up.
Very good arcade-y open wheel racing game. The career mode does get more difficult as you approach modern day, as racing lines will change and braking zones will shrink as you get more grip, better brake upgrades, and a quicker car overall, but I never felt like the AI had an unfair advantage. Gameplay wise, there's enough going on with managing grip, fuel, the car's damage model, and tire wear mechanics where a poorly planned pitstop can ruin a race, but it still is an arcade racer and doesn't get too overcomplicated. In terms of off the track gameplay, there are choices you make (car upgrades and perk selections are the main 2) that do affect the races, but it's pretty limited which was a plus in my book. Audio and music is nothing to write home about, but not terrible either. The price point is honestly great at $10, as I'd be willing to pay 15-20 for a similar game. In terms of getting 100% achievements, it's definitely doable in the 25-30 hour range if you focus on getting all achievements per decade in career mode as you first play through them. On the other hand, if you go down the "normal first playthrough" and then grind for achievements after finishing all the career mode decades, you're probably looking more at the 30-40 hour range to complete everything.
AI Rubberbanding Hell please do yourself a favor and avoid this game!
Jogo muito bom, divertido. Eu gosto do modo carreira. Indico a quem gosta de jogos de corrida e quer algo para se divertir após o trabalho ou para relaxar. Fácil jogabilidade. Parabéns aos criadores.
I prefer games like this than a trying to be perfect F1 game, this has nice art, fun gameplay, and smooth controls. New Star Games is a up and coming indie game studio with a promising future.
É incrível. Uma pena não receber atualizações de verdade. Um multijogador online é um sonho
Man, this is BARELY a no vote, and it's so close close because there's so much I love, but AI and gameplay polish fail it in the end. What's great: -Visuals are amazing, feels like Pole Position in all the right ways -Time trials and checkpoint races feel like a good difficulty curve over the course of the game -Fuel and Tire strategy is critical, old tires/lots of fuel will turn your car into a barge Where it all falls apart: -During GP events (and only during GP) the AI gets buffs/nerfs relative to how you're doing in the season. But these can be huge. Are you in first going into Baku? Watch as your rival goes up by 7 full seconds in the first lap. This is regardless of your upgrades (which do matter for events) because it seems that during the GP, the AI is buffed relative to your current car, so upgrades don't seem to matter -Arcade vs Realism feels unbalanced. Tire, fuel and mechanical wear all have HUGE effects on the handling of the car, and while this can be fun, it also means it doesn't feel like there's any way to master the game, because every single lap of the race you're driving a completely different car. Even after fresh fuel+tires, the suspension, brakes and drivetrain will all be damaged and perform worse. This means there's no such thing as learning braking points, you just have to trust the Red/Green of the racing line. But this racing line is a vague guideline -Bits just seem unpolished. Like, why would I ever hire another manager when all the alternatives im presented with have flaws just as big as the people I have now? Why am I offered a huge amount of money to take someone out of a race when there doesn't seem to be a reliable way to craahs others out of the race, as the AI's will usuallly shrug off contact (unless wheels touch, then one of you is going airborn). Why do rival races not open up even when I have a rival? There's a lot to love here, and my 1980s season was super enjoyable, but as I'm trying to complete the game I'm finding more and more bugbears that have just sucked the fun out of it for me
A really good racing game, simple and fun I hope the devs update the game more
