This game is a true spiritual successor to Super Meat Boy, in all the good ways, and all the bad ones. The platforming is incredibly tight, levels are designed such that the best strategy is constant movement and speed which feels great, the general design of "the level changes each time you beat it" offers a nice escalation within the level packs. The levels sometimes feel a bit long, but I don't mind that. The presentation is... fine, nothing special, the little blue guy's voicelines are kinda funny and don't really become too grating, it's Fine in most ways that aren't the platformer mechanics themselves. Collectibles are fine, I don't care about them, but for the people that do, it's got stuff to do. The bad part comes in with the bosses. They suck. They all ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suck. Most 2D platformer bosses ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ suck, and the ones that don't lean into the nature of the game as a platformer and encourage you to go fast in a chase or something. This game has a bunch of irritating arena fights with no checkpoints and dull mechanics. There is exactly one decent boss, and it's the shortest. I wouldn't say the bosses RUIN the game, but GOD are they HORRENDOUS low points, and a terrible way to end the game. The high-speed platforming about running through the level in the PERFECT manner is great, playing a memory game in an arena bossfight or waiting on the moment of vulnerability is not. TLDR; Platforming is good, presentation is fine, bosses are bad. Fun game, worth playing, ultimately not a super special game. Like Super Meat Boy, but again, and with a little blue guy instead of a chunk of meat.

Игра для убогих. Хуже, чем Super Meat Boy
SI.-
Solid game. The central gimmick is original and fun - the same level with additional obstacles and rooms each iteration - and the controls and level design are pretty good. The physics aren't perfect, with momentum being stalled a bit too quickly and freefall acceleration unexpectedly quick, but it doesn't detract from the experience once you get used to it. Lots of content: 30 levels, each with collectibles, par times and deathless runs to attempt. And despite being a challenge platformer, the difficulty is more flexible than some. Infinite jumps and such in the accessibility menu, and you can choose either easy or hard difficulty depending on whether you want checkpoints. Personally, I played through on hard mode and hit all par times that way, then switched on the checkpoints to go collecting stuff; that felt like a good balance and worked for me. A couple of downsides include the performance, with FPS occasionally chugging on busier levels, and the wall-jump being somewhat finicky and eating inputs at times. Egoraptor's voice work is awful, but you can turn him off in the settings. And while this is more of a neutral thing, the best route through each level is invariably by going as quickly as possible and trying to one-cycle all the hazards - it's a lot of fun and rewards skill, but does make routing predictable if you're proficient. Throw in some visuals that are decent for a former flash game and a better-than-expected OST and you've got a fine package to waste a week or so bashing your head against.
[Never] gonna [give] you [up]~
买之前考虑清楚,难
I recommend playing on easy mode, which is still very hard.

Disclaimer: I wrote this review after completing 100% of all achievements of this game. (Game time: ~92 hours)
Never Give Up!

The best hardcore platformer with any lore that I played so far
Never Give Up is a hardcore platformer game and the spiritual successor to Tasselfoot's own flash games Give Up and Give Up 2 (which also feature blue and in which he was not able to depend on the kindness of checkpoints yet). It has decent, but not overwhelmingly different music (the music is mostly written for the environments Blue finds himself in (at least 2 different tracks for each world) as well as one track for boss fights) I have to deduce some points for the FPS which tend to vary on my RTX Laptop Ti GPU, even when I set my laptop into performance mode (this way it is far more endurable). I would have liked to see more graphic options in the game itself - however, it must be considered that according to the intro credits of Never Give Up, it is a game that was ported from Nintendo Switch to PC. I personally recommend to play the game without shaders (those will make the graphics overall appear in a bit of a convexesque way, but it is also a question of personal taste - whether you keep them activated or not is up to you) The Level Sets can get repetitive at times, but that is part of the challenge and the developers amongst Tasselfoot made sure to put a twist in every now and then to keep you engaged. IMPORTANT WARNING: When I say hardcore platformer, I definitely mean hardcore platformer! In my first run (on Easy Mode) it took me over like 4000 deaths alone to just make Blue overcome the final boss of the game! This game tests your will and resilience. If you are completely new to hardcore games, do not expect to go from the first world to the final boss, beat the final boss, get the "Never Give Up" achievement and call it a day!
