I have a particular love for game experiences that teach me about subjects connected to our world. Never Alone (Kisima Innitchuna) is based on the traditional Inupiaq tale, Kunuuksaayuka. This game can be played alone or co-operatively (local only). I played the entire game in one sitting with my partner. It made for a fun evening game session. Never Alone is a platformer with two main characters. I'm not sure how they're controlled while playing solo but with co-op, each player controls one of them. Players do not get a choice of the characters. Player One plays as the human character and Player Two gains control of the non-human character. The controls are simple though occasionally don't feel responsive. Overall I thought this was a beautiful adaptation that would make for a lovely afternoon gaming session with a friend as it took less than two hours to complete (and that's with quite a few game overs). I recommend this game to those interested in multiplayer experiences, short games, storytelling, animal characters, or wintry settings.

Sadly I can't recommend this game for solo play. I haven't played it with someone else so I can't say anything about that. I keep having issues with the game giving me control over both characters at once instead of only one character. You should be able to switch between characters, the character you're not playing being controlled by the game. When I get control of both characters the game is unplayable because one of them will easily fall to their death of drown. A hard quit out of the game and restarting will solve the issue for a little while so I tried to power through it. After having to hard quit for the 3rd time at the same point I gave up. It's just not playable for me. As this is not a new game I don't think they'll ever be able to fix this issue. I'm sad that I could't play the rest of the game as it looks really nice, the characters are cute and the story is interesting.
I bought it to play as a cute little fox, half way through the fox turned into an ugly boy 0/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND
I didn't like the controls - the reaction to press was slow and laggy. The plot is also not really interesting.
NOT Steam deck compatible. Can't play because it won't accept my pressing A to start. Uninstalled and reinstalled and have consistent issues. Unfortunately, this has prevented me from playing the game properly as I bought it specifically due to the verified compatible status.
A game made with a lot of love, but not that much talent. Note that I played slightly over two hours, on steam deck. The story is nice and beautifully told by a combination of live narration and animated drawings between chapters. In addition, the player regularly unlocks short documentaries on Alaska, which can be viewed in game at any time and are truly enriching. It felt like an authentic cultural sharing. However, the gameplay is indeed rather simple (not an issue for such a short and story-driven game imo), the platforming is often awkward (controls not very responsive, overly sticky ledges, etc.), the AI of the second character is often frustrating (waiting for nothing, going in weird directions, running to its death), I experienced multiple glitches forcing me to restart at the nearest checkpoint (easily broken collision detection), and the cherry on top : after a first 2h long session I quit, rest, restart, and now the game won't recognize my controller's inputs (steam deck); this latter issue has been identified 10 years ago (cf the steam discussion channel) but I was not able to fix it, so I won't see the game's end...
Never Alone didn’t evoke any strong emotions in me, but I wouldn’t say I disliked it either. If you’re considering playing it, think of it as a folklore-based story game that offers insight into Inuit culture, and don’t expect much more than that. At its core, it’s a platformer, but the mechanics are quite simple and unsophisticated. The controls can feel a bit clunky and buggy at times, though I didn’t encounter any major issues. You can play it in co-op (which I did), and I recommend doing so - it makes the gameplay more engaging, as you’ll need to help each other. What I appreciated most were the video insights about Inuit culture and history. They taught me a lot about Alaska and added depth to the overall experience.
A mini-masterpiece, very educational and full of soul. I loved the videos. I didn't find it too difficult. Feels like it would be a fun game for families to play together.
