This game is straight up bad. The controls are terrible, it's always the same pattern: run, jump, get frustrated. I gave this game multiple chances, everytime it disappointed. I just can not finish this game. Sorry.

I bought this game years ago, shortly after attending UAF—go Nanooks! After moving back home, I missed Alaska and bought it as a way to reconnect. Life got in the way, but I finally came back and finished it this past weekend. The storytelling and incorporation of Inupiaq culture and history are beautifully and thoughtfully done, and the artwork adds so much to the experience. My biggest complaint is the gameplay: it relies heavily on precise timing, while the controls can feel choppy and unresponsive, leading to some frustrating deaths. Despite that, I’m glad I finally finished it. It was a meaningful little way to reconnect with a place I still miss.

I really enjoyed this one! The teamwork between Nuna & the fox was fun, I played alone but I'm sure playing with someone else would have been a blast too. I also loved that it's not just the game but also getting to learn about other cultures, which I always enjoy. I can't wait for the sequel!
It's a curious example of a game. Somewhat slow, a bit clunky, perhaps not with the best variery of things. But it's a very good experience, made with love and ther desire to connect people with one of the most distant, ancient and wild cultures out there. And it serves it's purpose just right. It's a rough gem for a limited audience but if it finds a way into your heart, it will stay there. Pros: It has a cozy art. The spirits are unique and look nothing like you (or me) have ever seen. The music is soft and barely noticeable but it created necessary atmosphere. Puzzles are simple and don't slow down your progression. And the fox is cute :) Cons: delayed controls will kill you more often than anything else but it's not difficult to get used to them. A highly recommended one-time experience which you might want to replay many years after and relive it.
Never Alone — ★★★★★
I'm not a fan of the indie platformer genre, however Never Alone is done at a very commendable level. It's not just a platformer about a girl and an arctic fox, but a calm, measured journey through the world of northern myths and the culture of the Iñupiat/Inuit people. 🔸What I liked most of all were the documentary-style interludes between chapters, in the style of Discovery Channel. In them, representatives of the northern peoples talk about their life, daily routines, traditions, and worldview. 🔹The gameplay is generally engaging: you need to control two characters, solve puzzles, and use the abilities of Nuna and the arctic fox. But there is a downside: in chapters where the fox actively calls upon the spirits for help, the game gets a bit tedious at times due to the overly slow movement and levitation. 🔸The story is very kind and gentle. The game can definitely be given to a child to play through, especially if they're interested in exploring the world, getting to know other cultures, and solving simple puzzles.
Nice
A beautiful, moving puzzle-platformer that acts as a playable documentary, perfectly blending Alaskan Native folklore with emotional gameplay. It's a short but profoundly touching experience, especially if you play in co-op with a friend.
