As someone who is nostalgic of nancy drew games, this review will be biased. However, this being one of the oldest nancy drew games, I can't dock it TOO much, but it was definitely very puzzling on what to do or where to go. I got lost ALL. THE. TIME. Which I suppose was the point, but it did frustrate me to no end, ESPECIALLY during the timed moments(theres only a couple and can be solved easily, but the pressure of being timed makes ones brain go stupid.) I fell in LOVE with the characters writing wise. They're all there to make you feel bad for them AND make you think they're the prime suspect all at once like any other nancy drew game. The plot was kind of...ehh? But I did really love the books and actual facts that they accounted for when making the backstory. This game threw actual research of history at you about why Marie Antoinette was misunderstood and just as much of a victim of the royal family that the peasants were if not more due to them making her a scapegoat and slandering her name in history as being selfish when in reality she was confused and ignorant. I'm only surprised because this was made WAY before research like that was even popularized in media or history books. So, from a childhood standpoint, games like this I enjoy because it makes you think not only about puzzles and "whodunit", but about how a corrupt system can hurt people on both sides of it. There might be inaccuracies in the story but thats the point, its to make nancy drew do something spectacular and cool like find Maries crown jewels and her treasure. The point is it used actual moments of history to MAKE the fictional storyline and I honestly loved that about this game. Gameplay wise it lacked compared to other nancy drew games, but if you like reading up on history and talking to npcs, this is the game for you.(in my opinion). However if its not your thing and you just want more action than story, this one might be a bit boring lmao.
I have always loved this game. works well on Steam!
One of the simpler Nancy Drew games, but still a decent one. It's definitely also one of the quicker stories to get through. Unfortunately, it does suffer a few issues - the aiming for the navigational clicks are off and it's easy to miss where to go or even how to move in the environment because of it. Fortunately, most of the games don't have this problem. Also, the culprit was extremely obvious from the get-go. Either way, it's an interesting little story and I still recommend giving it a play.
Fun game, flew through it in about 5 hours. Only complaint is some sections become very repetitive, but it definitely isn't annoying enough to stop playing.
A lot of people recommended starting with this as your first Nancy Drew game, and it was delightful. Absolutely recommend.
This one is a favorite of mine. Even if the controls are a little wonky and frustrating at times. It keeps me interested the whole time, and I never feel so lost as to need external help. I do, however, hate professor hotchkiss.
amazing critical thinking puzzle game with a fun historical story line. Also gives you a cozy sense of nostalgia. 10/10 !
This game can be frustrating because there is no task list and it is really easy to do things out of the proper order. When you do things incorrecty, it locks certain elements of the game that you need to continue. This is one of the earlier Nancy Drew games in the series, and it seems like the developers made some improvements over the years in the newer games. If you play this game, it's best to find a guide that helps you accomplish the tasks in the right order.
it cookssssssssssss
a lovely detective game. or a puzzle game disguised as a mystery game.
