My first Nancy Drew game as a kid. I just beat it for the first time because I couldn't when I was little. The nostalgia is amazing. My uncle told me back then that if I beat the game he would give me $100 but no matter what I just couldn't figure out the coding puzzle on the back of the arcade game. Apparently you had to type Super in the first field and the serial number in the 2nd field but it just went over my head. I missed out on the money because I grew old before I beat it and my uncle also passed away years ago so I can't even tell him about my triumph. This game helped me to remember him and took me back to a time when I was truly happy. Thankyou HER Interactive for being part of my childhood!
The Haunted Carousel is the eighth Nancy Drew adventure game. In this game, Nancy has to investigate some strange incidents that have shut down a theme park. Despite the fact that the park is supposed to be "haunted," the "ghost" activity never feels at all supernatural and that aspect of the mystery isn't focused on very much. This is one of the shorter games in the series, even among the early games. This game relies less on logic puzzles than some of the other games. Instead, you'll collect objects and interrogate suspects. There are also a couple of minigames, which were pretty easy and, unlike in some of the other games, not annoying. My biggest issue with this game was that some of the items and locations are pretty easy to miss. I needed help from a walkthrough a couple of times, and it was usually because I had missed something onscreen. It was usually pretty easy to figure out what to do with all the items after you find them. This game offers a task list, and unlike most of the later games you can still use it if you're playing on senior detective. The mystery was fine but didn't really pull me in. The culprit wasn't obvious from the beginning and all the suspects had believable motives, and there was a sweet subplot about uncovering a character's past. All the parts of the story fit together and the answers weren't too obvious, it just didn't stand out for being interesting, unique, or particularly suspenseful. The setting also isn't particularly interesting or memorable. Overall, The Haunted Carousel was an okay game with some minor flaws. I enjoyed playing it, but nothing about it stood out to me compared to the other games in the series. 6/10

Nancy Drew: The Haunted Carousel is a mystery adventure developed and published by HeR Interactive, continuing the long-running detective series with another engaging case centered on investigation rather than action. This installment transports players to Captain's Cove Amusement Park, where an unsettling collection of incidents has frightened both employees and visitors. A valuable carousel horse has disappeared, mysterious mechanical failures continue to plague the park, and rumors surrounding a cursed attraction have begun to spread. As Nancy Drew, players must uncover the truth by carefully examining clues, questioning suspects, and solving a wide variety of puzzles before the mystery grows even deeper. The amusement park serves as one of the game's strongest features, offering a memorable setting that balances colorful attractions with an underlying feeling of unease. Bright carnival rides and cheerful decorations create an inviting atmosphere on the surface, yet hidden maintenance rooms, deserted pathways, and suspicious activity gradually reveal that something far more complicated is taking place behind the scenes. This contrast between the park's family-friendly appearance and its growing mystery helps establish a unique atmosphere that remains engaging throughout the investigation. Like other entries in the series, gameplay focuses on exploration, observation, and logical thinking. Players gather information by inspecting environments, speaking with various characters, collecting useful items, and piecing together evidence to unlock new locations and story developments. The game rewards patience and attention to detail, encouraging players to think like real detectives instead of relying on combat or fast-paced action. The inclusion of both Junior Detective and Senior Detective difficulty settings further improves accessibility, allowing newcomers to receive extra hints while experienced players can enjoy a more demanding investigative experience. The puzzle design is consistently enjoyable because most challenges feel naturally connected to the story rather than existing as artificial obstacles. Mechanical devices, coded messages, environmental riddles, and inventory-based tasks all fit seamlessly into Nancy's investigation. Completing these puzzles often provides satisfying breakthroughs that advance the narrative while making players feel directly responsible for solving the case. Although a few solutions require careful observation and note-taking, they generally remain fair and rewarding for adventure game enthusiasts. Character interactions play an equally important role in maintaining the mystery. Every individual working at Captain's Cove has a distinct personality, believable motivations, and information that may either help or mislead the investigation. Conversations gradually reveal hidden relationships, financial concerns, personal conflicts, and suspicious behavior, ensuring that players continually reconsider their theories about who may be responsible. Rather than presenting an obvious villain early on, the game encourages careful deduction by allowing evidence to shape conclusions instead of assumptions. Visually, the game reflects its early-2000s origins while still delivering attractive pre-rendered environments filled with detail. The amusement park is thoughtfully designed, giving each location its own personality and purpose within the investigation. The soundtrack reinforces both the playful setting and the mysterious tone with subtle musical pieces that heighten suspense without becoming overwhelming. While character models and animations inevitably show their age, the strong voice performances and effective writing help preserve the overall immersion. The Haunted Carousel may not be the longest adventure in the Nancy Drew franchise, and some older gameplay conventions occasionally slow the pacing, particularly when revisiting locations or exhausting dialogue options. Nevertheless, these minor shortcomings are overshadowed by the game's compelling narrative, memorable setting, satisfying puzzle design, and rewarding investigative gameplay. It remains an excellent example of how thoughtful storytelling and clever problem-solving can create a captivating mystery without relying on modern visual spectacle. Rating: 8/10
All my homies love Miles
Game is fine in terms of story and puzzles. The typical Nancy Drew experience. But on Linux, it's as laggy as a Santa Clause on peg legs. There's this arcade mini-game á la '80s Breakout that is required to finish the main game. But that mini-game is so unresponsive with its 2 frames per second framerate that making the ball connect with the paddle is just sheer luck. 2/20 times or so, it happens. Technically impossible. I'm afraid that's where this story will end for me. UPDATE: Okay, for that one blocking instance, I have used the dev menu to cheat my way to the required tokens. (See the Steam forums) Now I could finish the story. But even so, I still will not recommend this game. All things considered, this adventure didn't really engage me too much. The puzzles felt more like work and less like fun. They are … lacking heart, maybe? I'd say, the purpose of this game is to be a weak title to make the strong Nancy Drew games more worth appreciating.

Captain Valentine
Slender Hunters
One of my favorites! I really loved the rides, the games, and the carousel history. The characters' dialogues were engaging enough and I had fun the little side tasks. One of my favorite parts was Joy and Miles. Riding the carousel and getting the ring was a ton of fun. It's one of the more straight forward games for me - not too difficult even as senior detective - but it still gave me the fulfilling feeling of getting things done. There were a few jump scares, some pretty creepy scenes, and eerie music to match! Scare factor is a 4/5 and overall game play 4/5.
I like this game a lot. The characters and dialogue are hilarious, the setting is really interesting, and the story is fascinating. Some of the puzzles were a little tricky, but ultimately not in a way that led me to get too frustrated with the game. Learned a lot about the history of carousels! lol
Its an okayish ND-game, rather close to a No for me. The story and characters are both fairly shallow and the grand finale and motive of the culprit leave a lot to wish for. It however has a fairly charming setting.
Not the very best in the series, but my favorite parts were the carousel ride and the arcade games.
