Honestly, this one and Myst III: Exile, are the two best games in the series. I played these growing up and if i'm ever feeling nostalgic, these are my go-to games. 10/10 will always play again
The puzzles are challenging - particularly with mouse movements really not being very precise or fluid - however the story is solid, the cut scenes are great, and the over all quality of the graphics and music are fantastic. I started playing this series with Riven when it was originally released waaaaaay back (didn't know then that I was playing it out-of-order). It is always a lovely nostalgic trip to play anything from the series.
Great story. Very difficult puzzles (for me, anyway). I still love the Myst series of game and lore.
lots of cool places to explore
Love the genre and the series but this old game is buggy at start-up on Steam. Posting this review after multiple failed launches to start the game. When it runs, everything is the same as I can remember when the game first came out. Its just too bad that you never know if the game is gonna launch. Its a total bummer. Hopefully they will release a VR version like they did for Myst and Riven. Exile also deserves a VR make over but even on desktop that game loaded WAY better then Revelation does. Unless your an obsessed fan... wait for further development. Maybe now the game will launch now and i can get back to wasting my life jumping through books.
First game I ever played :D
The puzzles in this one are horrible. I expect a challenge when playing the Myst games, but the one on Haven and a lesser extent Spire are infuriating. Even using multiple walkthroughs these are insanly horrible. There is no way to tell if you're on the right track with the tones. It's all just maddening guesswork.
This is a great puzzle game! I would say it has a harder difficulty level than most. You cannot play while distracted as the storyline provides most of your clues on where to go.
I could not get the game to work properly. First off, the game seems impossible to force into windowed mode, and the fullscreen caused the game's display to flicker black on a portion of the screen. I tried everything I could to fix it like running different compatibility modes, running as administrator (to hopefully let it be forced into windowed but still did nothing), and even running special parameters on the exe, but after all of that, still was unplayable. Even if the game worked normally in fullscreen, I still consider not being able to go into windowed mode a major functionality issue. I was actually excited to give this one a try after beating the first 3 games of the series, but this game uses a different engine than them which effects compatibility majorly, making the first 3 work perfectly with no issues and this one broken for me. Bummer.
