Nota 10/10

Game is amazing, don't get me wrong. But this last boss is a janky mess to the point where you have to change your build just for this fight. I have used ONE build for the entirety of the game and now I am forced to change it for one fight. Wild. EDIT: New adaptive difficulty does not seem to work on the last boss.
This is a tough one for me. I've seen a few other reviews say the same thing I'm about to: most of the game is fine, but the final area is so terribly designed that it makes the entire game difficult to recommend. The game itself is a fairly open Souls-like and, for the most part, is decently designed. But, the more you play, the more it starts to feel like it was made by a smaller dev studio who didn't have much experience making games, which is odd because apparently they're made up of "AAA veterans", according to a quick Google search? Okay... And what I mean by that is, the methods they use to increase difficulty towards the endgame is cheap at best, and lazy at worst. Late-game bosses simply have their numbers pumped up. They don't use any techniques, moves, or abilities that make you think. They just move faster and with more frequency, on top of having their health pumped up. The final area is the worst for this. I guess the thought process was "It's the final dungeon, pump those numbers UP", because every boss in that area is a damage sponge. It's all just a bunch of wild flailing while you ineffectively wail on them. None of the bosses are cleverly designed: it's all "make them really fast and pump up the health", and I'm going on about that because the one thing I can't stand in any game is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ damage sponge. Nobody wants their immediate reaction to a boss to be "♥♥♥♥, I'm going to be here for a while". The gameplay itself is good, and the most interesting part would be the Shells themselves. There are a few decent ones, but, honestly, they're all just... meh. None of them really stand out, and not once in the entire game did I find a shell that I was excited to use. Their abilities are underwhelming and uninspired. A fire AoE; a big punch attack; shoot a bunch of stuff; another AoE. One of them stood out as being able to freeze time and punch the ♥♥♥♥ out of dudes. That was one of the more interesting ones. Most of the weapons are great, but the biggest issue is with the Tarstones you can equip onto those weapons. There's quite a few of them, but most of them can only be equipped to certain gear. This means, most of the time, you'll find a new Tarstone, inspect it, and find out it doesn't work with your favourite weapons. This happens a lot. Simply put, Mortal Shell 2 is an okay game, but very flawed. One of those games where I wish Steam had an in-between rating. If you're interested in it and can pick it up on a sale, I recommend doing that.

Goated asf
Was fun, got my moneys worth! If you are finding it to easy, at the very start of the game you can grab this candle, go back to base were you first launch and turn the game to night mode. Also forgiving when it comes to reallocation of weapons, shells etc. so you can try every build
