Unfortunately, I would not recommend this game to those who have motion sickness, moving the camera around was what triggered this and I am unsure if there was a feature to turn the smooth camera movement? The little ambience left me a little uneasy whilst walking through the island along with the liminal looking homes, I was not able to get much cosy vibes from this. Quite disappointed with metal detective, the premise of the game looked promising, but I felt it was not executed well.
Morgan Metal Detective is a gentle and relaxing game with a story that although is short and basic manages to provide some heart warming moments. My expectations for this game before I started was that I would meet a lot of colourful characters, do some exploring and searching for items, and enjoy a good story. Those things did happen but on a much watered down scale to what I was hoping. There are about six characters to meet on the beautiful island of Glasden and although they do have a very basic back story, there's not much to really connect you with any of the characters apart from your Mum and Grandad. Most characters provide you with a problem that you need to solve, like finding a lost engagement ring or discovering artefacts, and they always involve finding a specific object with your metal detector and bringing it back to them. Their stories are quite thin and dialogue with any character is very brief but even with this limited dialogue it still manages to remain charming and kept my interest. I'm glad I stayed until the end because Grandad's story does hold some substance and emotion and there is a nice ending to the game, but I kept thinking that this game could have been so more if it was fleshed out a bit. If you like searching for items you'll find the metal detecting quite fun. It's going to appeal to people who like simulation games I would expect. The metal detector swings automatically from left to right and when it discovers something it makes a noise and then you will need to move around until the word "dig" appears and then you can uncover your treasure. Now, the majority of the time it will be something useless like a metal can or ring pull, but then again when you do find something interesting that rewards you with an achievement it feels quite satisfying, and these achievements are quite plentiful and will allow you to keep searching after the game has completed. All items can be traded at the shop for money which can be spent on stickers that you can decorate your diary with. The Cornish island of Glasden looks very pretty and is very colourful and I found exploring the island quite enjoyable. It's quite big, and the island has several landmarks to visit and a few secrets hidden here and there. I particularly enjoyed the treasure hunt quest which provides a small amount of puzzling by deciphering the clues to find the treasure. The characters have great Cornish accents and for a low budget game I was quite impressed with the voice acting. I've definitely heard a lot worse and overall the characters were likeable and charming. My only frustration with the game is that it didn't support my resolution of 3440x1440 and I had to reduce it to 1024x1080 for the menu and game buttons to show on the screen. It also took me a while to work out how to use my controller because nowhere does it show you the controls for your controller, so you will need to fiddle around with them. After you complete quests you are rewarded with tapes that you can play in your cassette player and the tunes are great but they only last thirty seconds and I wanted to keep listening to them but there was no option for that either.
🍳Conclusion🍳

Morgan Metal Detective is a basic story that lasts around three hours but most of that time will be spent searching for items using your metal detector and fulfilling quests for locals who have lost something. It makes for a very relaxing and slow paced game which will probably appeal to people who enjoy simulation games or repetitive tasks. Even though the story and dialogue exchanges are very brief and quite shallow, the game manages to remain charming and colourful due to the beauty of the island and the mixture of exploration and object finding. I found the story to be rewarding at its conclusion but I just would have liked a bit more depth.

Thank you for reading my review. I'm only half an hour in on the launch day and I am already OVERWHELMINGLY enamored by this game. The world, characters, and narrative are so charming, it feels incredibly smooth, and, honestly, it evokes such a wonderful feeling of calm when you play. It's been a long time since I've been this excited for a game's release and it has already delivered far beyond what I'd hoped. Bravo, Studio Morgan, what an beautiful work of art this is. I'm so excited to see all that's down the line! <3
was excited to play, but i think it needs more polish. encountered bugs immediately. movement would continue when i opened a menu. the main characters voice sounds like it was recorded over the phone, while other characters are clear and well voiced. the movement was floaty and made me feel ill. had to refund after about 15min as the movement made me super nauseous. i would be open to trying it again in the future if it gets more development and fine tuning, as the gameplay idea is appealing.
Fun enough, but I beat it in 90 minutes. $15 is steep.
A sweet little game about metal detecting on a stylised island. It’s really a game that is made to set off at your own pace and discover what the island is hiding. When you play for a few hours you’ll start to gain an idea of what is below the surface before you dig, but sometimes it can surprise you. Some of those crazy beeps can really catch you off guard and are a delight when you find something new, but it is still a game about patience, exploring and discovering. If you want to find everything, this game needs time and dedication for what seems like a repetitive mechanic, but we are here to metal detect after all! There are some issues with the game, primarily motion sickness at the moment but it sounds like the devs are actively updating the game so there looks to be a fix coming at some point. Overall, I enjoyed the game and played to the end of the story, but I did spend a lot of time off course just digging up other people’s gardens. I was sort of expecting a moment from untitled goose game of being chased off the land with my metal detector, but it really is just a cosy exploring game without consequences. On a side note, the camera element in the game made me feel like a P.I. instead of a metal detective, due to the residents always staring in your direction no matter where you are on the island. Felt like they were up to something else.
I was hopeful for more from this game. I completed this in under 2 hours, and felt the price, even at a discount, was steep for that little content. Needs a bit more polish in terms of mechanics, but I love the setting of the game! I'd say wait until it has a few more updates before playing, hopefully with more items available to find.
First impressions: Played the start of this game, and I absolutely love the presentation and sound design. Makes you feel you're really on a Cornish island in a small community with some quite characterful, errr characters brought to life with authentic voice acting. Very soothing to metal detect in the key areas of the map and dig up various items from the past, whether rubbish, memorabilia, or archaeological - almost reminds me of Pikmin how each item pops up! Will be coming back to this to chill out in Cornwall and see what the characters on the island are getting up to, and whether Morgan can get in touch with her grandad.
Just over an hour in and this is the perfect chilled vibes I needed. Just wandering around the island on my own ADHD fuel side quests finding all kinds of stuff was relaxing my rougelike nature tremendously. 10/10 would detect!
Overall, the setting is nice, and i've enjoyed my time exploding the island, while finding different trinkets and items around the place. That on its own was quite engaging. Found what looks like all but two secret items. Unfortunately, the game needs a lot more polish. I've encountered several issues in my playthrough, one of them being a progress blocking softlock. It also suffers from a lack of any ambient music. I would have loved to at least have a replayable tape of sorts, which would integrate itself into the existing system nicely
