First of all, I really expected something different. I thought this story would recount the stories of the inhabitans of the games apartment and it´s transformation over time. It does neither. It certainly tells stories of characters in the apartment and they are connected to the reality, but the stories are made up by the characters in the present (which is by the way no spoiler, it is made clear right at the beginning). Especially one of the stories was very tedious to play and I nearly didn´t finish it. I do love history though and I guess that is why this review is positive, as I really enjoy to play in historic scenarios. I can´t recommend this game to everyone, but I certainly wouldn´t want to give the game a negative review, especially because I also liked the message, this game wants to spread. If you want to try this game I would recommend to wait for a sale though.
A heartfelt journey through a century of Berlin's history (7/10)
The Berlin Apartment isn't really a game in the traditional sense. It's an interactive narrative experience where a single apartment becomes the silent witness to the lives of its inhabitants across more than 100 years of German history. If you enjoy games like What Remains of Edith Finch, Gone Home, or The Forgotten City, you'll probably appreciate what this game is trying to achieve.

✓ Pros
• A unique concept - telling multiple interconnected stories through the history of one apartment is a brilliant idea, and it works surprisingly well. • Emotional storytelling - the game focuses on ordinary people living through extraordinary historical events, making many of the stories genuinely touching. • Beautiful art direction - the colorful, stylized visuals give the game a distinctive identity, while watching the apartment evolve through different decades is fascinating. • Historical atmosphere - instead of giving a history lesson, the game lets you experience Berlin's turbulent past through personal stories, making the setting feel authentic and relatable. • Varied episodes - every chapter introduces different characters, situations, and small gameplay twists, helping the experience stay fresh.

✗ Cons
• Gameplay is very limited - don't expect challenging puzzles or complex mechanics. Most interactions are simple and exist only to support the narrative. • Some stories are stronger than others - the opening chapters are excellent, but a few episodes don't leave quite the same impact. • A bit clunky at times - movement and interactions occasionally feel stiff, and the overall presentation lacks the polish of bigger narrative adventures.

Verdict
The Berlin Apartment succeeds because of its heart, not because of its gameplay. It's a thoughtful, beautifully presented collection of human stories that shows how ordinary lives are shaped by extraordinary moments in history. While the gameplay never evolves beyond basic interactions, the writing, atmosphere, and unique premise carry the experience from beginning to end. It's not a masterpiece, but it's absolutely worth experiencing if you enjoy narrative-driven games. Final Score: 7/10
This game was alright. The reason I'm giving this game a thumbs down is because of the missable achievements. It's one thing to have missables, but it's another thing to make it so you can NOT skip through things. I missed the throw an object achievement and the intermittent fasting achievement, and the only way I can get the two of these is by playing the entire damn game from the start all over. This is so stupid how at this point in gaming, developers STILL make missable achievements/collectibles. Like it's to the point where it's simply unforgivable.
I've just finished playing The Berlin Apartment, a walking sim developed by Blue Backpack, and published by Blue Backpack, ByteRockers' Games, and PARCO GAMES. It took me four hours to finish all the achievements, but it could probably beaten casually in under three. The Berlin Apartment takes place in the year 2020, when a young girl and her father begin renovating a dilapidated apartment in Berlin. As the the two work to repair the building, they exchange stories about its former residents across the past century. The anthology has four short stories, each featuring a different resident of the apartment in each of the following years: 1989, 1967, 1945, and 1933. Each entry in the anthology is intended to spotlight a period of historic significance, such as the lead up and resolution of WWII, as well as the fall of the Berlin Wall. Despite being set in sensational periods of history, the writing fails to deliver across any of the anthologies. Characters are simultaneously chatty, while saying very little at all. In the first story, the character lies on the ground and monologues to themselves for at least five minutes about basically nothing. The other stories are disappointingly similar, further hurt by amateurish voice performances which are largely devoid of emotion. Even by walking sim standards, The Berlin Apartment is slow, bordering on a parody of the genre. Characters move across the apartment as if wading through mud with bricks on their feet. Interactivity is rarely more than commenting on items around the apartment, or opening doors to walk through them. Several chapters present rather unusual graphical bugs, particularly when rendering some of the more detailed areas in the final story. If it wasn't apparent from my tepid previous paragraphs, I would not recommend The Berlin Apartment. I respect what appears to have been a desire to respectfully portray momentous points of history in game format; however, its overly mild writing and voice performances failed to deliver an entertaining game.
I played through this game in one sitting. Sure, that means it's not a -long- game. It didn't let me go though. I enjoyed the main characters and the stories they told about the people who ived in the Berlin apartment. Might have even shed a tear at some point. The German voice actors did great in this game, too.
I enjoyed the game, the story was interesting and the art is really nice. The game is pretty short for the price though (took around 4 hours for the first playthrough and I was trying to be thorough), so I would only recommend buying it on sale if that's something you're worried about. My biggest complaint about the game is that there are missable achievements on a first playthrough and you have to replay the game to 100% it, but there's no options to skip through dialogue making it really tedious to get those last few achievements.
The Berlin Apartment is a truly memorable experience. Its gameplay feels smooth and engaging, striking a perfect balance between exploration, storytelling, and interactive moments. Every chapter introduces something meaningful without ever feeling repetitive, making it difficult to put the game down. What impressed me the most is the incredible sense of nostalgia that lingers after finishing each chapter. The stories are emotional and thoughtfully crafted, leaving you reflecting on the characters and the lives that once filled the apartment. It's a rare feeling that stays with you long after you've stopped playing. Visually, the game is absolutely beautiful. The Berlin Apartment is a heartfelt, beautifully designed game that combines excellent gameplay, emotional storytelling, and a gorgeous visual style. If you enjoy narrative-driven experiences, this is one you shouldn't miss.
