6/10
Only game modes are PvP or "Roguelike" but the game isn't clear that it's a roguelike. It doesn't even have that tag anywhere. It's mentioned once far down on the store page. You play with a squad of fantasy units that have been reimagined as sci-fi units instead, on a boring battlefield. You start with your commander, putting down allied units near you while the enemy commander does the same. Combat is really fun at first but quickly becomes a visual clusterfork with countless effects going off. All units are unique with unique, unintuitive abilities so things become exponentially more complex with each unit played. If it wasn't roguelike, I'd keep it because I know I could learn the game and get pretty good at it. Not enough to keep me interested for a roguelike though.
Pros:
- Complex squad based turn based combat which is really fun when you can tell what's going on
Cons:
- Single player is just a roguelike and there are already a million roguelikes out there - No UI or text scaling options. You can scale subtitles but nothing else, which is stupid - Game is FAR too complex for the simple UI. Does nothing at all to help you keep track of all the complex mechanics going on - No visual contrast between units & backgrounds so everything blends together, making the above issue even worse - There's no grid and melee range is very finnicky so you have to keep moving units tiny little amounts to get in range
Game is abandoned, can not connect to game servers.
Game is dead. Honestly, the game itself has everything it needs to be a great time. The gameplay is a nice, simplified take on range-based tactics games like Warhammer and Bolt Action, and the mini painter system is quite literally one of a kind. Unfortunately, the lack of single player content made this game somewhat dead-on-arrival, which only got worse as fewer and fewer players were around for matchmaking. At this point, the game is pretty much abandoned, not having been updated in well over a year. The devs seem to have gone silent from what I've seen, and I doubt you could matchmake anything but bots anymore. Oh, and of course there's a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ battlepass system. It literally locks paint colors behind experience grinding. smh. It's sad, because I'd love to see more games adopt ideas like this one, but Moonbreaker fumbled the ball at the end so badly it's absolutely not worth the price. If there was a single-player campaign, a conquest mode or something, then my review would probably be different. As it stands, though, it's 100% NOT worth the price of admission.
Sad to see this game die :(
One of my favorite games. Really sad it’s just a dead game…
most fun dead game ever
This game is fun and the character painting is great, but it seems like an unfinished game, with three factions that only have a single unit.
No one is playing, which kills the game immediately. Looks neat, neat concept, but is dead as of my writing this.
Game is completely dead, it's a great game in itself, but with 0 chance of getting a multiplayer match I wouldn't recommend you buy this.
