Reviews
This game has surprised me consistently with its depth, intelligence, and yes, its heart. A perfect blend of Pokemon, Metroidvania, and Party-based RPG, "Monster Sanctuary" has been a delight from the first boot, despite grindy elements and a few RNG-dependent mechanics. This game awards exploration, experimentation, and even failure, as every encounter is a potential teaching moment which invites the player to reflect on his/her choices and ponder how to improve their performances. Platforming sections can be frustrating, as can some of the puzzles (especially the time-driven ones,) but nothing so far has been too difficult to completely discourage attempts. I have a seven-year-old, and he and I have thoroughly enjoyed our time with this title, and I have really appreciated how this game has bolstered his critical thinking skills, his memory recall, and his reading abilities. Overall, I think this game is a must-have for anyone who fondly remembers the joy of exploration in the original Metroid titles or anyone who wanted their Pokemon battles to rely on more than just a single monster's at-bat abilities. "Monster Sanctuary" is a joy to play, and I'm looking forward to delving even deeper in the NG+ modes (as well as the world of "Aethermancer" by the same team.)

14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Sep 20: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,515 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Great. 9+/10. +++ a huge map, lots of skills, slightly customisable main protag, enough action/combat --- can't customise your monsters --- no colour variations of randomly encountered monsters either --- that is why the world is huge, but encounters are very repetitive --- no chaotic attack / that kind/type of attack that attacks monsters completely at random (not only boring individual & aoe attacks that attack specific not random enemy monsters)? --- electricity/shock/storm element is downgraded as sad silly Wind element that many monsters already got? + puzzles (even though I hate them personally and some are even forced on you to go back/progress) - no epic 6 vs 6 pve fights? - some map areas feel empty? +++ secrets, secret passages and entryways - can't customise the monster keepers' stronghold either? - no way to spend money, everything buyable is practically a joke - the requirement of level up badges is silly, why not only 1 lvl below your highest lvl monster? Why 2? That makes your newly acquired mobs almost always behind (or at least for quite a long while) the main pet -- little or no randomness of everything (on the first playthrough?) ++ enough biomes -- few evo's - perhaps the total amount of different monsters is still rather low...
The pitch sounds so good that it boggles the mind nobody's done it before: a monster collector where ALL of the monsters collected double as traversal upgrades in a Metroidvania. It's peanut butter and chocolate. Every monster is granted additional nuance and depth by its role in traversing the map, adding an entire dimension of characterization beyond the visual design and the battle stats. And the monsters in question are inventively designed, a treat to discover. The big downside, for me, is that the battle stats all feel over-tuned, over-balanced. In the interest of making every monster theoretically viable, a lot of texture has been ironed out. There aren't big rock beasts that look imposing but reveal themselves as limited and vulnerable low-tier choices, nor are there clearly overpowered moves that function as their own game-changing paradigms. And that engenders a lot of sameness, battle-wise, from one monster to the next, which is an enormous missed opportunity for characterization. Still, there's a lot of charm here, and between their designs, their lore, and their traversal skills, the monsters do feel distinct and interesting. So despite the missed opportunity to amplify those distinctions through truly varied battle mechanics, this is still a very easy game to recommend.
game has lot of potential but by mid game you end up destroying everything, and this is at max difficulty. I played with permadeath too and ive never lost a monster. I think that the true way to play this game and have a challenge is by doing a randomizer run. But if you remove this problem you remain with a really solid game that is a blend of metroidvanias, shin megami tenseis and pokemon. Its crazy because builds in this game go deeper than in either pokemon or smt game (barren smt vv maybe), each monster can function in a lot of different ways and its not a simple healer+ dps+ tank teambuild, you have to consider synergies between passive abilities, team abilities and weaknesses/strenghts. The exploration is good, i think that using monsters abilities as exploration abilities is genial, the game is also completely non linear except for the last 2 areas and an ability that divides the first half of the game from the second, and it works since enemies in new zones are always scaled to your level. The music is really good too, with some tracks sounding like castlevania or SMT soundtracks (mystic workshop and sun palace especially). The game is really long too and it feels a bit bloated at times but its fixed with 3x game speed. Its a shame that theres not any true endgame content, this is a game that would have vastly benefitted from having tons of postgame bosses and content to make having multiple teams in endgame something useful and not something that you do just cuz you want to but that is pointless because you dont have anywhere to use them. I wish SMT had the depth that this game has honestly, this is how good the game is.
