Currently mostly stage1, but the contents will be surely added and can feel tons of potential. Cute & short little indie title, only took me an hour to beat. Keep in mind there's only one stage at the time of writing this review. However, it was a lot of fun, definitely fits the "medium" difficulty that was intended. Challenging, but never did I feel it was unfair. I am looking forward to seeing what the game will become at full release.

I haven't really written reviews before but I wanted to help with some feedback... First of all the game is pretty short (Since there is really only one level and a slightly changed version of it after defeating it the first time) but it is a cheap game so that's okay with me and even so its still fun to play! It can be a bit challenging at the start but after a few tries and learning the game/enemies its certainly doable. I would love to see a couple more levels or even more unlocks as the game progresses!
Model Eight is a hidden gem. It follows the formula of other shoot'em ups and I find the designs to be good, the art cute, and the music fun. Short and sweet, there are only 5 stages. Model Eight is a fun game that's easy to pick up and play. Great for quick game sessions. Pick this one up when you can. Playable on Steam Deck.
Very good short old school style shmup that mixes euroshmup tempo and enemy waves and with some very mild bullet hell patterns. Cool art, decent players should finish all five stages in under an hour.
Model Eight is an independent shoot 'em up developed and published by Cache that embraces the spirit of classic arcade shooters while introducing a rewarding progression system designed to keep players engaged beyond a single run. Set within the mysterious Travelers Network, the game places players in control of the titular Model Eight, a combat craft assigned to eliminate the powerful flagship known as CloudBuster. While the narrative remains deliberately minimal, it provides enough context to motivate the action without distracting from the fast-paced gameplay that serves as the heart of the experience. The strongest aspect of Model Eight is its commitment to traditional shoot 'em up design. Players must weave through dense enemy attacks, react quickly to changing threats, and maintain precision under pressure. The controls are responsive and easy to learn, making the game accessible to newcomers while still providing the level of challenge that genre veterans expect. Enemy encounters require concentration and pattern recognition, rewarding players who invest time in learning stage layouts and attack behaviors. What helps the game stand apart from many other independent shooters is its salvage-based progression mechanic. Destroyed enemies leave behind valuable scrap that can be collected during missions. These resources are then used to improve the ship's capabilities, creating a satisfying sense of advancement that extends across multiple attempts. This feature encourages players to take calculated risks, often forcing them to choose between staying safe or moving into dangerous positions to gather additional materials. The result is a gameplay loop that feels more strategic than a typical arcade-style shooter while maintaining the genre's signature intensity. Visually, Model Eight adopts a manga-inspired art direction that gives it a distinct personality. Character illustrations, ship designs, and interface elements showcase a strong artistic identity that helps the game leave a memorable impression. Although it does not aim for cutting-edge graphical fidelity, the presentation is polished and cohesive. The colorful visuals complement the action effectively and contribute to a world that feels more unique than many low-budget shooters that rely solely on retro aesthetics. The game's audio presentation also contributes positively to the overall experience. The soundtrack supports the action with energetic tracks that enhance combat encounters without becoming repetitive. Sound effects provide satisfying feedback during battles, making weapon fire and enemy destruction feel impactful. Additional features such as artwork and music galleries further demonstrate the developer's appreciation for the game's creative elements and offer extra content for dedicated players to explore. Difficulty is handled in a way that balances accessibility and challenge. New players can quickly understand the fundamentals thanks to straightforward mechanics, while experienced fans will find plenty of opportunities to refine their skills and chase better performances. Success depends on mastering movement, understanding enemy patterns, and making efficient use of upgrades. The progression system helps reduce frustration by ensuring that even unsuccessful runs contribute toward future improvements. However, Model Eight is not without limitations. Its overall scope is relatively modest, and players seeking a large campaign, extensive story content, or a wide variety of game modes may find the experience somewhat brief. Much of the game's longevity comes from replaying stages, improving performance, and experimenting with progression choices. While the core gameplay remains entertaining, additional content could have further expanded its appeal and replay value. Despite these shortcomings, Model Eight succeeds in delivering exactly what it promises: a stylish and enjoyable shoot 'em up that respects genre traditions while adding meaningful progression mechanics. Its combination of satisfying combat, attractive manga-inspired visuals, accessible design, and rewarding upgrade systems creates a compelling package for fans of arcade shooters. It may not revolutionize the genre, but it provides a polished and entertaining experience that demonstrates a clear understanding of what makes shoot 'em ups enjoyable. Rating: 7/10
