About
Miasmata is a first-person survival/adventure game, developed from the ground-up by brothers Joe and Bob Johnson. You play as Robert Hughes, a plague-stricken scientist on a journey to discover a cure. Your adventure begins on the shores of a remote and mysterious island. Long ago, the island was inhabited by a group of indigenous people, whose extant monuments still decorate the island landscape. The island is now home to a scientific research outpost and it is your hope to reunite with your colleagues working there. Unfortunately, you'll soon discover that something has gone terribly wrong.
During your adventure, you will encounter a mysterious and deadly creature. This creature can stalk you for miles, lurking behind grasses and vegetative cover. By treading carefully and with stealth, you may be able to elude the creature. If you are careless, however, you will be forced to confront the creature head-on.

Reviews
This game didn't age well. Feels incredibly dated after playing games with thoroughly fleshed out survival mechanics.
Fun exploration type game for when you want a peaceful time.
Good game, very original and the weather system and clouds look amazing to this day. I just wish the game had more QoL features and ran better, along with having a safe mode where there is no monster and you could walk around like normal and just explore the island. Also needs more FOV options to keep from getting motion sick

Many years have passed since I played it, hopefully I forgot the map and can replay one day, waiting for this with anticipation. One of the best game like ever. It is about making the map and some horror element that try to prevent you from doing it, but it is more about atmosphere. Didn't find anything like it.
I couldn't get into it. I like survivals, maybe not this premise, but I don't like the controls, the ui,gameplay, and the art doesn't redeem any of it. I didn't get hooked into caring about the story or the character. It has no character customization or anything personal. I switched tabs to check something and the game crashed before I had saved and I lost everything, and I have no desire to try again.
A research simulator is a nice idea, but everything is so clunky and clumsy that the game is painful to play. You don't even have a pocket, a sheath for a knife, nothing!
Recommended, but only with the community provided patch (see Steam discussions). The game mechanics are really neat, especially the triangulation part. But controlling the player character feels like a marble rolling around, that's usually driving me nuts on cliffs. Didn't get much of the story, especially
who murdered all those scientists
and the end. But game wise, it was entertaining. And
the creature
is really cute!
Surprised that people like this game. I've played it for a couple hours YEARS ago and the only two things I remember are: 1. Crafting. Run around, pick flowers, make stuff. Personally not my favourite type of gameplay. 2. The distinct feeling that the character moves like a heavy ball. 3. Triangulation. This one was actually REALLY cool and I'm sad that the gaming industry didn't take note. Would I personally suggest anyone play this? No. MAYBE if you really love clicking stuff on the ground and navigating crafting menus. But there is probably better crafting games out there. edit: Also 15 bucks base price for a 14 year old, underwhelming indie title is a complete rip off. If you REALLY wanna check it out, look for a 2.50€/$ sort of deal. If you spend more than 5 on this, you're likely gonna regret.
A fascinating concept. The monsters spooked me, but learning how to draw a map and then locate yourself on it with no compass, is just a great experience, and really well done.
Really good exploration focused game with a unique mapping system and movement. Super immersive, very tense at times with the occasional calm and beautiful moments.
