For Anyone Who Loves Butter Floors and Endless Magnet Puzzles The movement feels slippery and imprecise, almost as if every surface is covered in butter. Precision platforming becomes more frustrating than fun. Story or characters? Pretty much nonexistent. Anything that looks like “plot” is just a backdrop for more magnet puzzles. And not even varied ones – it’s the same red/blue, blue/red, swap polarity here, swap it there, over and over again. You die, repeat the same puzzle dozens of times, die again, and eventually brute-force your way through. The soundtrack is forgettable, the world feels empty, and after a short time I just wanted to finish the game simply to be done with it. If you’re looking for something with story, characters, or gameplay variety, this definitely isn’t it. Teslagrad is only fun if you want nothing but one magnet puzzle after another after another after another.
Another Metroidvania I played and just couldn't get into
I couldn't get into Teslagrad and I'm not completely sure why. Maybe it's the art style, all I know is the game just didn't click for me and I found myself bored. Even though I do like a lot of Metroidvania style games, I picked this one back up several times and eventually found myself shelving it yet again. Even though I couldn't get into it, this game deserves more of a maybe than a no because of the qualities it has going for it, such as the charming art style. 2d platform & puzzle game this game harbour a mini game too
A cute game with several good ideas and puzzles, but the main frustration is the one-hit-kill mechanic for boss fights that turn a decent challenge into pure tedium. This could have been greatly alleviated by giving the player a single-hit shield which only activates for boss chambers.

Teslagrad is a meticulously crafted puzzle-platformer developed and published by Rain Games that stands out for its elegant fusion of physics-driven mechanics, atmospheric storytelling, and hand-drawn artistry. Rather than relying on exposition or dialogue, the game invites players into a quiet, mysterious world where meaning is conveyed through visual cues, environmental details, and mechanical discovery. From the outset, Teslagrad establishes itself as a thoughtful and deliberate experience, one that rewards patience, observation, and curiosity over raw reflexes or constant action. The game begins with a sense of urgency and unease as a young boy escapes persecution and takes refuge inside the towering, long-abandoned Tesla Tower. From there, exploration becomes the central focus, as the tower unfolds into a sprawling, interconnected space filled with hidden passages, forgotten chambers, and elaborate mechanical puzzles. Progression is not strictly linear, encouraging backtracking and experimentation as new abilities unlock previously unreachable areas. This structure gives the tower a strong sense of place, making it feel less like a series of levels and more like a cohesive, living structure shaped by history and purpose. At the heart of Teslagrad’s gameplay is its clever use of magnetism and electromagnetic forces. As the player acquires Teslamancer powers, movement and puzzle-solving become increasingly intertwined. Switching magnetic polarities, manipulating metal objects, and using attraction and repulsion to traverse hazards turn each room into a kind of interactive machine. These mechanics are introduced gradually and then layered in increasingly complex ways, ensuring that the challenge evolves naturally rather than relying on sudden difficulty spikes. Success often comes from understanding how systems interact rather than from trial and error alone, making solutions feel logical and earned. Platforming plays an equally important role, blending precision movement with puzzle logic. While much of the game emphasizes careful planning, there are moments that demand sharp timing and spatial awareness, particularly during chase sequences and boss encounters. These sections add urgency and tension, breaking up the slower, contemplative pacing of puzzle rooms. However, the game’s one-hit-death approach means mistakes can be punishing, especially in more demanding platforming segments. For some players this unforgiving design heightens the stakes and satisfaction of success, while for others it may occasionally border on frustration. Visually, Teslagrad is striking and cohesive. Its hand-drawn art style combines steampunk influences with a storybook sensibility, resulting in environments that feel both mechanical and magical. The Tesla Tower itself is rich with visual storytelling, its walls adorned with murals, devices, and symbols that hint at past conflicts and forgotten knowledge. This visual depth is reinforced by a restrained but evocative musical score, which uses orchestral tones and subtle electronic elements to enhance the mood without overwhelming the experience. Sound effects are equally purposeful, providing clear feedback for magnetic interactions and environmental changes. Narratively, Teslagrad’s refusal to explain itself directly is one of its defining traits. The story unfolds silently through imagery, flashback murals, and environmental context, allowing players to piece together the political and personal conflicts that shaped the world. This minimalist approach may leave some details ambiguous, but it also grants the narrative a sense of universality and emotional resonance. Rather than being told what to feel or think, players are encouraged to interpret events on their own terms, deepening engagement with the world. Overall, Teslagrad is a game that values cohesion and intent over spectacle. Its mechanics, art, sound, and narrative all serve a unified vision centered on discovery and mastery. While its difficulty and understated storytelling may not appeal to every audience, those who appreciate carefully designed puzzle-platformers will find a deeply rewarding experience. Teslagrad remains a memorable example of how strong mechanical ideas and visual storytelling can combine to create an adventure that lingers long after the final ascent of the tower. Rating: 8/10
It's a short game, but an enjoyable one. If you've played games like Hollow Knight or Braid, it's like a combination of the 2, just a bit shorter.
It's fine.
Good points: - I like the mechanics... WHEN THEY WORK; - I like the ‘pastel’ style; - You can discover the game’s lore simply by exploring, without needing a single line of dialogue; - It's not rocket league. Bad points: - A Metroidvania with no markers on the map; - One hit kill; - You can move the camera up and down, but in some cases, it doesn't work; - Some puzzles can be REALLY annoying; - For a game based on magnetic puzzles, the magnetics physics fa veramente CACARE DIO DE DIO. Final verdict: It’s a nice game, but the frustration outweighs the fun.
