About
Miasmata is a first-person survival/adventure game, developed from the ground-up by brothers Joe and Bob Johnson. You play as Robert Hughes, a plague-stricken scientist on a journey to discover a cure. Your adventure begins on the shores of a remote and mysterious island. Long ago, the island was inhabited by a group of indigenous people, whose extant monuments still decorate the island landscape. The island is now home to a scientific research outpost and it is your hope to reunite with your colleagues working there. Unfortunately, you'll soon discover that something has gone terribly wrong.
During your adventure, you will encounter a mysterious and deadly creature. This creature can stalk you for miles, lurking behind grasses and vegetative cover. By treading carefully and with stealth, you may be able to elude the creature. If you are careless, however, you will be forced to confront the creature head-on.

Interesting concept, good graphics, but aside from that I have to agree with some other people here when they say it feels unfinished. like the knives/axes which do nothing, the food, which does nothing, then you have water everywhere but if you so much as step in a puddle you start to drown, and develop a fever, or if you slip and fall even 20 seconds after taking 'medicine' you will get a fever again immediately. so to sum it up, you spend hours upon hours,. just wandering around the woods, finding plants so when you slip and fall or step in a puddle you have medicine so you dont die, ohh and once in a while you run from a monster.
After 13 years I have finally finished this game. Walking cartographer simulator on a rotating invisible cube, that was fun
I played this game originally back when it came out and recently had it come up in my mind for some reason. Downloaded it on Steam and spent the last three days playing it. It's a great game if you allow the mechanics to sink in. If you are patient to actually learn the island of Eden. Initially it was annoying that you can't see where you are on the map at all times and how the map doesn't automatically update as you move around the island. But once the triangulation clicked with me and I started to recognize the landmarks I truly began enjoying my time with the game. I don't think there is another game like Miasmata out there. There are a few visual bugs here and there. The game crashed half a dozen times. The mouse movement frequently stops working after you close the map. The only way to reset it is to attack or to open and close the journal. But outside of those few technical problems, the game is flawless in my opinion.
An incredible experience to be honest. The mechanics are good and the story is interesting. Give it a try.
This game is HUGE. It perfectly captures the feeling of being an explorer on a deserted island. A janky old game that will test your patience. But if you're after an immersive survival exploration in nature, this is it.
I dig what Miasmata was going for. Unfortunately, it has failed to capitalize on its great ideas. The setting, the sense of mystery, the slow but deliberate search for a cure are all superb. Unfortunately, the game is borderline unplayable. While I could look past the abhorrent graphics, the protagonist's lack of motor skills or pockets makes the game a constant exercise in frustration. The game's physics engine makes the character skid and slide all over the place like a cow on ice. Climbing the flattest of inclines is a slow and arduous process, while walking down the same gentle slope makes the protagonist pick up speed uncontrollably until he trips and falls on his face, so you have to constantly apply brakes. And since you can only carry one flower or mushroom at a time, collecting specimens and exploring the island becomes a long and boring chore. Although Green Hell had its own issues, it features a very similar story and gameplay on a much more modern and fleshed out engine, and is a lot more enjoyable to play.
Such an under appreciated Gem. Something about this game speaks very deeply to me. You stumble without any direction through a jungle while knowing exactly where to go. Instinct takes over and with the stunning visuals its very easy to let those instincts guide you through something that can be horrifying but only through rarity.
Controls aren't good, very unappealing landscape and just boring to walk around.
Poor controls that aren't explained, very slow gameplay with too much aimless wandering, and a story that doesn't seem to continue after the intro. Why are there dead people all over the place? There's no internal monologue or anything. I managed to make some drugs, but how do you administer them? There's nothing on the key map for using the stuff you make. It shows that it's a 2012 game, but it seems to be abandoned despite still costing more than comparable current games. Should be free at this point.
i lost 5 hours of progress because of some dumb creature
