I will just start by saying that considering when this game came out, it is a 10/10. But that doesn't mean it is perfect and I think some aspects of the game were flawed even at that time. So if you are a first timer like me, you might find some things extremely frustrating without the nostalgia goggles. There are many positives. The voice acting and story are amazing and I was genuinely blown away what they were able to pull off at that time in regards to gameplay and certain mechanics, MGS feels like it was ahead of its time. Now the negatives. The shooting feels like ass. I was playing on controller because keyboard didn't feel very good, but it is legit so hard to aim at a target. Fortunately the game wants you to avoid combat, but when you must shoot, it feels horrible. The bosses are not fun at all, I like the characters and the ideas, but not the execution. The second half of the game is an actual design cancer. Example: You get to Sniper Wolf, but then you must backtrack all the way to beginning to obtain a weapon, you go back to the boss, defeat that boss and after a cutscene and a short gameplay, the game once again forces you to run all the way from the start to the boss. Shortly after you get to a tower which has possibly one of the worst combat encounters I have ever seen in a videogame and unless you spam stun grenades, you won't enjoy it. Then you have a KEY and you need to change its temperature, the game forces you to backtrack two times. The Sniper Wolf boss fight is almost unplayable if you don't have pills and even with them it is still cancer as your scope moves very slowly and it is not precise. It doesn't matter if you kill a guard, they all respawn anyway. Overall, MGS is masterpiece of its time and many aspects still hold up to this date, but there are many design flaws that make playing it quite frustrating nowadays.
"A great game has both good moments and bad moments but it's good moments are like really-really cool and timeless and it's bad moments are just there because it's literally 30 years old" - Socrates or whatever the ♥♥♥♥ Mei Ling usually says. Best fight:
Either Vulcan Raven or Gray Fox
Worst fight:
Either of the Sniper Wolf fights
The plot is goated still. The gameplay is bearable up until they force you to use the first person shooting mode. A personal tip: don't try to aim manually, just hold the Aim button and Snake auto-aims at one of the enemies. Also check the controls ASAP, I've learned that I can choke people out at the last combat section of the game.
FOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOX. Die.
