Imagine a lone russian developer... He plays Half Life 2, finishes the game and thinks "man that Ravenholm area with the zombies n ♥♥♥♥ was AWESOME!" He then decides to smoke a bunch of crack cocaine, remembers his days wandering through the secret laboratories in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series and decides to mash it all together. That is Vladik Brutal.
Vladik Brutal is an FPS game made by a notorious junkware developer, who has released more than a dozen products which ain't worth a place even in your garbage bin. However, this exact product, where the developer, based on all his previous negative experiences, finally invested several years of his life into developing the concept and building the levels... It's finally a proper game. Yes, it is glitchy sometimes, but there's nothing totally game-breaking. You just need to be prepared for that kind of low-budget "entertainment", where half of the levels look like a tank of feces exploded over the basic level meshes from 10-15-year-old level design basic asset sets. It plays like a cheap FPS from the early '00s, but with some graphical enhancements and a bit better level design. I've read some negative reviews from guys who can't clue in on where to go next; well, it's really dumb, as the game is very linear, and you can always see the green markers somewhere. A few puzzles where you need to find a battery, a valve, or just a lever, shouldn't be a problem, even for a very casual gamer, as they are always somewhere close to the obstacle. The only thing you should practically avoid is about starting the game on any difficulty level but the first two, as the only thing it actually changes is the number of spawning enemies, to the point where even old titles like Painkiller or Serious Sam step away... And, I also suggest not using the cheats, as it makes the game unstable, for one, and not really necessary even on the hardest difficulty, for two. I've completed the game on the highest difficulty level, by the way. It's possible, but you'll get a better experience overall, by taking an easier route. Also, all the achievements can be unlocked without cheats; some are just not worth it, like those built-in disgusting mini-games. Overall mark, 5.8/10. Yeah, not a good amusement I could really recommend to my friends. But it is a huge step forward for a former shovelware developer, who seems to be really enjoying what he's doing, and finally, it looks and plays like a proper game. In the end, that path is much more honourable, than the corporate way, where the suits hire hundreds of people and invest tons of money to 'follow the lead', which has never been a proper lead anyway. On that scale, Vladik Brutal ain't much worse, if not better, than the last Ubisoft doings...
This game is so much fun! The beginning is rather chill but after a few minutes it gets wild Not much time to think, only to shoot shoot shoot And, boi, there are many enemies and they are fast and jumpy You need a lil tactic to overcome this hordes... or just run away and jump on sth high enough, like I did most of the time I really like the atmosphere of the lab/underground part, it was scary After the 'job' there, you're finally back in the city and that's where the real fun starts Shoot, run, shoot, run, but don't worry, you already have really good weapons to kill everyone and also there's enough ammu and healing The music and graphics are also chefs kiss I highly recommend to play this gem of a game, the vibe it brings you is great 9/10
The game has a bit of jank but overall tough yet super enjoyable. Story is ok and the ending is super abrupt but in the end i do recommend it. My only gripe are the bosses, they felt just big bullet sponges with most of them dying to the super weapons like the double barrel shotgun or their sci fi gun.
It's a mashup of Metro 2033 and Half-Life which was far more fun than I expected. This indie game is a hidden gem that FPS fans shouldn't miss.
I enjoyed this a lot, love all the monsters, enjoyed the storyline, graphics are pretty decent although the models could be better. A bit half life meets resident evil meets Doom, lol. Didn't really encounter any major glitches but they were a few small ones, didn't really spoil it though. CFinished it in 12 hours but there was so much to explore that I didn't rush it.
