This is not a roguelite. You get to keep the xp, money and items. This is more like a normal hub based action rpg. Not that I don't like it though, just pointing it out for people who think this is a roguelite.
Game is a fun little dungeon crawler with a very 'Japanese game' feel. It's not as much of an RPG as it is a Diablo Equipment farm. Gear is your stats, and leveling up seems to only increase your max health a bit. Three different dogs that as far as I can tell are only slightly different. There's a fair variety of weapon types at my point in the game. I'm honestly pleased with this, but my recommendation comes with a word of caution. This is a very B-list game. If you've ever heard of or played a game called "Tokyo Jungle" I'd say it's like that in terms of B-list. Look it up. All of that said, I do enjoy it with one single critique. Explosion sounds don't layer, they stack. Infinitely. One of the earliest bosses shoots about 7 or 8 explosives at once, while spawning smaller enemies that shoot explosives. The number of explosion sounds is nearly unbearable at normal volume. That's my only complaint at this point. Overall, a cute little game with a shiba wielding guns to go west. Metal.
At first glance METAL DOGS looks like it should be a twin stick shooter and is even tagged on Steam as 'Action Roguelike'. This is incorrect. Wizard's Lizard is an Action Roguelike. Binding of Isaac and Gungeon are action roguelikes (and twin stick shooters too but that's not the point here.) What Metal Dogs is is more akin to say your Torchlights or Diablos where you go from a hub to an instanced dungeon and defeat the enemies there while moving down floors until you beat the dungeon boss and then move on to the next instance. Progression is kept after levels and you are able to both upgrade and buy equipment at the hub which is just a text menu of choices you get after the mission. As far as I can tell there are multiple dogs to play as and their levels aren't synced between one another. The only main problem I have with this game is the English localization as it feels very... Google Translatey and less like an English speaker went over it and then localized it. The game is legible but it has a feeling of machine translation without the charm of "This guy are sick" or some such thing that was prevalent in 90s JRPGs. Also the controls are pretty good but they take a little bit of getting used to. There is a lock on which is nice and it even supports gamepads natively. In this game you play as a dog with up to three weapons strapped onto them. The three weapons are a machine gun with has high rate of fire but not very great damage. a cannon with low RoF but high damage and a missile pack that fires a medium number of projectiles but takes the longest to reload after firing. All weapons have their own reload speed and this can be enhanced / adjusted through the mutations ability that applies random effects onto a weapon. Enemies can even drop unique gear, for example the Giant White Ant (which I think was supposed to be a big termite) can drop the Albino Cannon. Is this game worth $20? I dunno, I like it but I also got it on sale during the launch for around 15-17 bucks and I think it suits that price point. My one request to the developers is please try to get someone who understands English as their native language to go over your localization and just spruce it up a little bit so it reads better but this is a nitpick and I understand that probably isn't the highest priority. Besides that you're doing good and I hope to see more content and future projects from you going forward.
Originally this was going to be "Recommended", with a massive caveat. Metal Dogs at best is a mediocre game, given relevance through its Metal Max/Saga setting. As I began listing how the game falls short in absolutely every area, I realized there simply isn't any reason to play it, even for fans of the setting. The Metal Max series is a world of truly absurd creature design. Missile launchers may have the legs of human showgirls, while enormous dinosaur "warships" wander the desert. Metal Dogs uses almost none of this. The game not only uses just a handful of enemy types, they are all fairly tame (and repetitive) designs, both visibly and functionally. The very basic random level generation isn't just repetitive and boring, While not technically broken, it is certainly far from ideal. It isn't uncommon to have long winding sections with little to nothing of interest beyond a few enemies and crates. I once encountered a level that consisted of nothing but consecutive intersections, containing a total of three crates and no enemies. There are a couple of tilesets, and no meaningful environment effects. The mission structure is even more basic and repetitive than the random level generation, as almost all missions simply send you to complete 3-8 "floors" of randomly generated levels. "Boss" missions are identical, except you fight one of a handful of bosses on the final level. The lack of variety all around simply does not support the sheer number of "missions" the game "offers". Weapons are designed along a triangle: machine guns have large clips and fast reloads but individual bullets do little damage, cannons have a single shot and long reloads but do massive damage, and missiles do moderate damage and have special effects but have abysmal reloads. You can equip three weapons, but the weapons just aren't balanced. Instead of relying on all three, you seem better off skipping machine guns entirely and then just running around more (wasting more time) while waiting for your actually effective weapons to reload. Particularly when enemy health is so tanky that many basic enemies can survive multiple cannon shots. I could go on, but really it feels there is something wrong with every aspect of the game. I kept playing just to see if it would get more interesting, or better, or anything, and it never did. It kind of got worse. Then I completed the barely there story and unlocked "EX" missions... which are just more "complete 3-8 floors" of random enemies, except now you get more materials that you can use to improve your existing weapons. And I just stopped... I couldn't keep pushing forward with such a boring game, to improve weapons that only need improving because the same enemies I'd been killing now have more health.
Extremely mediocre dungeon crawler type game with very little variety. It's fun initially but once the novelty of "haha look at the funny dog with gun" wears off, it becomes increasingly obvious that the game has very little else.
If you're a fan of the Metal Max/Saga series and a fan of Top-Down Action RPGs, i think you should buy and play this (On Hardcore). But i also recommend to buy it on sale because the amount of content in the game right now is not worth 16 euros/20 bucks (unless you want to show that you're interested to see the future Metal games on the PC platform). ALSO if you've never played a Pre-MM: Xeno Metal Max or a Metal Saga game you should REALLY give them a try.
CY不当人啊,买了IP又雪藏,宫冈宽已经离职了。 唉,有生之年连在steam上给2重置补票都是梦里才有的事情了吗
Exactly what it says on the cover; be a dog that blows things up with giant guns. The biggest downside is the lack of ability to customise keyboard controls to my preferred set, however the defaults aren't completely terrible and once you get use to it its easy to play. Upside is the game has a very straight forward play cycle, that doesn't try to be too much beyond an easy stress relief of blowing up enemies while simultaneously not getting blown up. A good game for non-committal stress relief that's easy to get into and learn, combined with a cute theme and an easy gameplay cycle. Would recommend for anyone looking for an easy way to kill time.
If you like dogs and top down games and guns, then this is the game for you. It's too cute, I adore Shibas so much and this scratches the itch to play with guns while being a cute little Shiba. Also the attention to detail with the butt wiggling alongside the tail is peak. I love it. Only thing I want is a bark button. I just want to bark freely. I am dog, let me bark.
