Reviews
This is a good game but suffers from performance issues and is extremely crash-prone. It eventually becomes nearly impossible to complete the campaign as you will be hit by "Fatal-error!" constantly. It is a great shame, especially considering the developer has been gutted and will not likely ever fix it. May everyone in management in EG7 get the plague.
I've played Mechwarrior 5 Mercenaries. The visuals and gameplay of Clan are superior. Furthermore it actually runs smoother without stuttering than mercenaries. Hard to go back to Mercenaries. Aspects of the back end strategy are confusing but gameplay and stability is good

Unpolished. Subpar. Disappointing. 1. Audio is hit or miss. Volume for voices goes from low to high every other line delivered by briefing guys. And just sounds amateur and unpolished. Sounds like non-consecutive delivery where every line was recorded at a different time/day in different environment then spliced together with how inconsistent the voice and sound quality is. The dialogue and voice acting makes me cringe. I could believe this was done by AI. The dialogue and delivery make me hate every single character in the game. Aleksandr Kerensky sounded so underwhelming and disappointing it was just sad. 2. Video Default settings everything was hazy, blurry mess like eyeglasses are covered in film of dust and debris. When trying to clean up settings going native and sharpening it goes from blurry hazy garbage to grainy garbage like made with MS paint spray paint tool for shadows and fire/flames. Unfortunately, the characters look horrible with disproportionate, ugly and alien faces as well. Took a long bit of tweaking settings and .ini and reshade to get to look good. 3. Plot/story telling is horrendous. I do not like, empathize, or care about any character whatsoever. In fact I grew to despise them over the grind of missions. They are annoying, idiotic and ugly. Ive read all the original 64 or so novels so I knew the lore for the game. But the characters and dialogue make me cringe so much that I played sparingly with only a mission or 2 a night every few days because that is all I could handle. I just struggled to find anything likable about the game to keep me playing. After a while it felt like a job. Something I had to do to justify my purchase. Instead I would have been better off finding my old copy of BattleTech: Lethal Heritage by Michael A. Stackpole book and rereading it, albeit from the Inner Sphere point of view. Or going back to MechWarrior 5 Mercenaries with all the great mods for it. 4. When hitting Y and switching mechs sometimes, A (turn left) and D (turn right) stops working. You have to keep hitting Y and cycle until you can or sometimes hit ESC works. 5. They have ARROW IV mechs like the Summoner SMN-AIV but when trying to apply loadout it wont let you. Because there never is any ARROW IV in the marketplace I assume. 6. Already wasted too much time on this. good hunting o7
The gameplay is very good.Guns feel good, destroying fckers is pretty fun, customization is good aswell. The writing is pretty cringe for me, but the overall plot is good. The AI needs some tweaking, it's not 2002 anymore.I would really like to use ballistic mechs and shoot missles from range but there's no option to hold a position and shoot long range. It's either stay in place or run to the mech and shoot it.And the amout of times these idiots stay in front of my face, jesus. This is a hard game. I beat it on expert but you have to cheese the game sometimes. They will throw mechs at you.And when you are almost dead and you barely scraped by, expect a full assault/heavy lance to be thrown at you, even when you still have medium mechs. I'd recommend it
Always been a BT/MW nut but I was cautious going into this one. I wasn't dissapointed, however. This one isn't about open-ended stompy robits like Mercenaries, it's about story. Without any spoilers, I'll just say this: The vast majority of the characters were feckin' cool, interesting, and had depth to them. About 1/2 of the battles had a lot of actual tactical depth to them. Sadly, seeing fire support mechs charging your position when they have the high ground to begin with is kinda off-putting. But sometimes they stick to their roles. Sometimes I was really scratching my head at the relentless number of mechs being thrown into a fight, but I get it. Piranha has to make adjustments to keep the game fun. A 10 minute walk followed by a single 30 second battle and another 10 minute walk isn't fun, so they have to keep it spicy. Most of the cutscenes were REALLY well written, emphasizing a lot of character depth through really good character expression and voice acting. It was hard to set aside the almost jittery nature of the way they were animated sometimes, but I'm sure that'll improve in the other dlc's. Still some really DAMN good cutscenes that sold the universe like I was a kid again. Hopefully more animation work on them talking in the mechs/back at base in future dlc's. Worth your money and time.
Been quite enjoying this mechwarrior game. They finally FINALLY got jumpjets right! Having full control to go in any direction and change direction on the fly is just so good. Zig zagging around buildings midair as cover from enemy fire just feels finally worth the tonnage. Games been working smoothy, missions are fun, and the story is passable enough. I like the changes from the previous entry, will likely be picking up the dlc's soon. Performance has also been stable, no issues on that front at all.
Unreal Engine 5 should be a crime in a court of law.
Really wish i could give this game a neutral review as it does not deserve a negative one. That being said, this game has some issues with its pacing & difficulty. The story is a lot of fun and captures clanners well, not to mention the hand crafted nature of this campaign is far higher quality than the procedural content in Mercs. However, i feel like the game throws too much at you when you are still a new star running almost entirley light mechs. Maybe its just a skill issue but ive got 100+ hours in mercs and i am struggling to progress the campaign on standard difficulty. The game expects you to fight 8 lances over the course of 20 minuites in mechs that arent built for sustained combat, especially when my starmates keep running under enemy jumping mechs to get instakilled by DFA.. Fun game still, but im affriad i lack the masochistic streak required to paly this on higher difficulties.
