Great edition to the Mechwarrior franchise. I love the storytelling with the cutscenes. Clans and all of the DLC are highly recommended to diehard fans and Battletech newcomers alike.
how to start this..... horrible game along with mw5 can't believe I paid money for this pile of ♥♥♥♥. If I wanted ♥♥♥♥ shoved down my throat I'd do it myself. ♥♥♥♥ the game devs and ♥♥♥♥ the people that think this is a good game. graphics suck ♥♥♥♥ and so do the effects. this is a game that looks like it came out in 2004.

The graphics look much better than in previous mechwarrior games. The controls are jerky and unresponsive though. Your mech bounces around a lot when moving, like to a very unrealistic degree based on the exterior visuals of mechs moving. Gameplay feels clumsy and chunky. Still worth playing though. The story is inadvertently hilarious. Your superiors are all portrayed like out of touch boomers, and are constantly angry about everything, while your character is a brash young pilot. Also, there's a ton of satire and social commentary in the story. Clan society is clearly portrayed as self destructive warrior culture garbage, and rightly so. The clanners are fascists, racial supremacists, and use racial slurs constantly to refer to anyone from the inner sphere. They're also deep into the toxic masculinity and your superiors sound like morons when they talk. They're basically space Nazis, or really dumb Klingons. Now I'm sure a lot of people will miss the elements of parody, social commentary and satire, just like people miss the satirical roast of fascism in Starship Troopers, but it's still gratifying to see it there. One ore thing. The DLC is over priced, and you basically get adds for it in game. There are a bunch of mechs in the mech market that you can't buy unless you pay for the DLC. So whenever you see a cool mech and want to buy it, only to have the game go "you need the DPC" it's basically like a pop up add for the DLC.
Balance in the game is terrible. My medium/light star of rock throwers v. uncounted heavy and assault class....this linebacker sure is squishy.....Damn you ComStar.....
Fine until you reach the final EDO mission - then impossible ON ANY DIFFICULTY SETTING. Absolute BS design
Let me start by saying I am a big Mechwarrior fan. I really wish that Mircosoft would give the IP to a different developer. PGI games are stuck in 2007. Every game they make is based on grinding meaningless points to unlock nonsense. The performance of this game is just terrible. I can set all the graphics settings in the game to low and have garbage fps unless I delete the engine.ini before launching the game every time. The lance AI is terrible, most of the damage your team takes is from your own guys shooting each other in the back while they move around. The only way to get good results from them is set them in a line at the side of the battle field and don't let them move. I want these games to be great but they are mediocre at best. Mechwarrior 4 mercenaries remains the best game in the series. Go find it and play that instead.
The gameplay is good. But over time you cannot fail to notice that the story is disconnected from your prowess on the battlefield. It destroys atomsphere to realize that you are playing scenarios on the one hand and then you watch a movie on the other hand. I killed lots and lots and lots of Nova Cats. Maybe 40 or 50. I didn't count. I didn't care. They threw them at me. I trashed them. And helicopters and tanks. Maybe I lost 2 mechs in the process. Why did we lose the contest? Then continually you have to put up with this immature degrading talk about the unworthiness of the enemy and how bad their tech is and how they are cowards and how weak warriors they are. They don't even get called "warriors". AND YOUR COMMANDING OFFICERS ARE EVEN WORSE!!!! So, you keep rolling your eyes. And then, of course, you rack up the piles and piles of smoldering enemy mech carcasses and unnumerous tanks and birds and stuff, and suddenly the story is, you lost the war and have to retreat. Sorry, that doesn't cut it for me.
