The game still holds up surprisingly well in 2026. There's plenty of jank but for a 25 year old game it shockingly worked pretty well for me even without the fix patch. Aside from some weird audio issues, but they didn't bug me that much. Honestly the jank was so funny most of the time I'd say it even added to the experience.
a classic. needs a fix pack to run on modern hardware, there are steam guides in the top of the community sections for the game with links to these and guides to installing them. game is designed around you quicksaving manually every couple minutes or so, and the autosave is few and far between so you WILL be manually saving constantly, enemy placement and density can spike and be unfairly difficult at times but never absolutely impossible, just a little annoying having to slow down and tactically dispose of them in a game like this.
A friend is a big fan of Max Payne so thats why i gave it a try, and wow. Im only 2 hours in and im literally loving it.
Sadly, I love Max Payne 1, it's one of the best retro shooters, but I seriously cannot get this game to start up without crashing This game has very old code which causes the code to be unplayable on windows 11 The only reason I bought this is cuz it comes with Max Payne 2, and 2 runs fine for me If you're on windows 10 or 11 then maybe don't buy Max Payne 1 cuz it doesn't work I played Max Payne 1 on an older device and it's one of my favourite games The actual game is a 9.5/10 but please remedy at least fix or remake this game cuz it's unplayable on pc
