Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I highly recommend those who haven't experienced this absolute gem of a game. This is that type of game that when you finish it, you won't experience it ever again because of how badass and phenomenal it is! Come to think about it, I doubt we'll ever get a remake/remaster of this but if we do hell yeah I'm pre ordering it. RIP James McCaffrey most goated voice ever in gaming.
Would not recommend buying in 2026. I was interested in playing this classic series starting with the first, and tbh this negative review is not about the game as intended but about its technical state. When I first turned the game on, most of the sounds did not work, and the sounds that did work were so terribly distorted it hurt my ears. Thankfully, one fan has created a "fix all" patch that resolves some of these issues. But even with that out of the way, it was impossible to play through the game because the cutscenes constantly bug out. Not so much the comic ones or the movie ones, but the game sometimes has in-engine events that play out, and it appears the timers and triggers don't work like they are supposed to on modern PCs (possibly related to FPS, but I don't really know). Villains that are supposed to be running away from me, I find standing like a zombie in the stairwell, failing to trigger an event. Characters that are supposed to run from A to B during a cutscenes somehow get "stuck" and just infinitely run in place, so the cutscene never continues, and you just have to load a save (I had to load and rerun this cutscene seven times before the game overcame the bug.) Another event that is supposed to show some enemies noticing me and starting to shoot at me begins but then does not return the camera and combat controls to me, so the enemies just kill me while I'm "trapped in a cutscene" powerless to do anything about it. This negative review is not to diminish the game itself, but I just would not recommend buying it on Steam in 2026. It is too technically broken because it has NOT been maintained.

4 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
4 on sale11 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 11 “not sold” markets are read from the Steam price pass of Sep 7: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price in those. The 4 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

The game is literally broken, you can't complete it as it is, Besides that the game is incredibly Unbalanced. I get it's an old game but I like my old games to be playable.
such a great game but steam version is literally unplayable
good
So, right after download it can't be played. Casually looking into it tells me I've gotta do quite a bit on the side with Windows 11 This is not an end of the world issue but it is enough to make me wish I hadn't spent the money.
Rockstar, if you have a remaster coming out & are going to put this on sale, the least you could do is get out a patch so it can open on modern systems/Steam Deck without downloading external files.
best game aot
tl;dr This game literally can not be loaded into without unofficial community patches, and I feel like Rockstar / Remedy should not be allowed to charge money for this. The fact that this game is being sold in the state its in should honestly be illegal, or at the very least Steam should step in and pull this from their store. The game literally can not even be played without users having to hunt down unofficial patches to fix it. You can get to the title menu, but if you try to actually load into the game you'll just get a string of corrupt file error messages and the game goes back to the title menu again. This is on a fresh install, and is the state in which the game is delivered to the buyer. Companies should not be allowed to actively sell a game on a live market, knowing that it is in a defective state that makes the product unusable. If you're going to be actively selling a game that was developed for older operating systems, at least have the decency to update it to work on modern systems, or don't sell it at all. They're basically charging for abandonware.
I was genuinely surprised by how well this game still holds up in 2026. You’ll need the FixItAll mod to run it properly on a modern PC, but once it’s installed, everything works flawlessly. The atmosphere is unmatched and the difficulty is unforgiving. It brings back a time when you had to replay levels repeatedly just to scrape through - and the first Max Payne delivers exactly that experience. It’s gritty, compelling, and consistently engaging, even if the core gameplay loop is relatively simple. Games like this are rarely made anymore, which makes it absolutely worth revisiting.
