"He was trying to buy more sand for his hour glass. I wasn't selling any" Max has so many good liners its great but yeah this game severely outdated in terms of level design and fairness but overall its still a good time.

the fact this allowed to be sold while being completely non functional is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ insane like at least the fallout games actually allow you to play the game for a bit before they crash this couldn't get past the first cutscene with the patch that's supposed to fix it play the game on og hardware instead

After all this time? Always. Max Payne rules. It's hard to comprehend how refreshing and entertaining this game feels even in 2026. True masterpiece of action and story-telling.

Hadn't played since the original release on PS2. Kicked my ass. Still a great game. There's an easy guide to getting it to work on modern PCs in the Guides of the game. Unpack one zip and you're good to go.

This is a 5/10 review, game was enjoyable but with enough issues that I think a negative review is more constructive. This game is very clearly showing its age. For one thing, the game's audio is broken, you will need to go download the third-party fix for it. For another, this is the old-fashioned design where enemies shoot at you as soon as possible, virtually guaranteeing that you'll take damage from everyone, sometimes even before the third-person camera puts them into view. And much of the time, one shot is all it takes to kill you, so you guessed it, press f5 every ten feet or else you'll never make it through. Not only that, but there is no way to open doors except to run through them, and no way to change which side the camera is on, so many times the only way to approach a fight is to leap headfirst into it, and as mentioned if a bullet hits your face you're dead. I've been playing the sequel and it's a lot better at this, at the very least it has easier difficulties that give you more DPS and health so you don't have to quickload as much, and enemies are more often easier to catch off-guard, but in this one it feels like most of the time they're just staring at the door waiting for you to come through. All that to say, the game is still interesting, it scratches the same itch as games like Crysis, Far Cry, Half-life, FEAR, and the first STALKER. If the flaws I listed already sound familiar to you then you'll probably be able to muddle through this one and find some redeeming qualities. The vibes are pretty good and there's something to be said about how ridiculous the cutscenes and Max's smug character model look.

The game is literally broken, you can't complete it as it is, Besides that the game is incredibly Unbalanced. I get it's an old game but I like my old games to be playable.

Audio is busted unless you download a fan made mod. Not really wanting to do that. Game seems fun if you want to go through that kind of effort.
