About
The Spell Brigade is an online co-op Survivors-like for 1-4 players. Team up with your wizard friends to slay hordes of dark creatures. Complete team-based objectives, unlock new upgrades and create overpowered spell synergies. Friend nor foe is safe in this friendly fire bullet heaven!
1-4 PLAYER CO-OP
The Spell Brigade combines the Survivors-like gameplay you love with good old multiplayer madness. Fight thousands of weird monsters together. Complete random team-based objectives and upgrade spells together. Survive together!
FRIENDLY FIRE BULLET HEAVEN
Taking on entire armies is risky business, even with your friends at your side! Fighting as a team has many perks, but you will inevitably step on each other’s toes. But fear not! You can use your deaths to your advantage, and use Revive Cores to (literally) blast yourself and your teammates back into action!
MASTER YOUR SPELLS
Improve, augment and infuse your spells with different kinds of elements and upgrades. Combine this with your Enchantments, Quests, Scrolls, and the amount of wizards in your squad, and the potential for pure, unhinged chaos is endless!

I understand the will to make something unique in the genre, but the way this game does it just makes your character feel like this blackout drunk whimsical forest creature with zero will to live, and instead of trying to defeat your enemies quickly (and a lot of the enemies here kind of imply that you need to target them first), you are just forced to keep running around in circles and avoid walking into danger in hopes that enough of your wildly uncontrollable and unsatisfyingly weak spells hit enemies to score kills. And no, this isn't a build issue. This happens even if you pick the 'strongest' spells available, prioritize damage per second, get reasonably lucky and complete all the objectives, on the first level, at the lowest difficulty available, while gathering almost all of the XP (mana) crystals. Very few of the spell upgrades actually make your spells a lot deadlier, so almost none of the level ups feel rewarding or exciting. You can't increase the number of projectiles, make projectiles pierce or bounce. You also can't see the enemy healthbars or stats, so you can't really tell how hard your spells are hitting them at a glance. The upgrades that do make your spells much deadlier are locked behind objectives, and even they don't improve them that much compared to how legendary rolls improve your damage in VS. All of this must have been by design, and this design just misses the point of the genre. I do like the idea of the objectives, which motivate you to move to specific locations and/or linger around them for huge rewards, but this is about the only cool innovation, and it's not even that big of an idea since they simply replace the usual bosses. It's probably more fun in co-op, but that is true for almost any game. Props to the devs for including this, but the game itself must be fun to play first in order for me to consider inviting friends. Overall a big downgrade to the VS formula. P.S: I did love the music, but the soundscape is kind of chaotic, and you are actually supposed to listen for sound ques for gameplay reasons, which takes away from the vibes.
The game is fun, especially with a partner but damn its so unbalanced, there is a very very big difference in good and bad spells/buffs/characters. HUGE. People argue that you can make all chars and spells work, sure.. But others are still much better and just smoother to use. Since it can be played Co-Op, i do recommend it, it is fun. But I think if more of these kind of games had Co-Op, they would outshine this one.

I absolutely love this game. It leans just right into the whimsy and goofiness while still keeping you sweating on the higher difficulties. The spell combinations are awesome and fun, and thematically pull you in. It has something great going on with the character design, at least insofar as appearance and presentation goes. The game could do with some balancing, especially for some of the augments when there are clearly some worse options than others. The base game loop is fun and has a decent difficulty curve to it, but usually feels too short to really let your builds flourish. There is an endless mode, but for some reason there is no way to get the rewards for your run unless you are killed. If you're familiar with these types of games, you probably understand how powerful your builds can get. It can take a very long time to die, even if you leave your character AFK. You can't get your meta progression from this mode, which is a very questionable oversight, considering it was like this since the beta. That said, it would also be nice if I could actually play the game. I have always had latency issues playing the game with my wife during the first half of the beta. I am not sure which update did it, but ever since the game is now bricked for us to play entirely. The other player that isn't the host suffers from extremely high latency and lags out, without fail. Our internet connection is fine, but something about this game just does not let us play together at all any more. I have seen several others have some variation of this issue with connectivity to the game servers, and nothing has been done for quite some time. Hell, I have even upgraded my wifi card in hopes it was on my end the entire time, but no dice. This game does have a lot of good going for it, but at this point I am incredibly frustrated and will only be logging time on this to see if any future updates makes it playable.
It's a "budget" vampire survivors, but actually more expensive than vampire survivors. The spells are pretty lackluster, characters are not balanced, the buffs you get to your spells are boring as heck (literally the same 4 type of buffs show up over and over), the objective events are boring, uninspired, and sometimes downright frustrating, and you never achieve the power fantasy you would in vampire survivors... its just a meh game. They throw different environmental hazards at you on different levels, but more often than not, they just make things more tedious and bothersome to play. I'll be honest, it's almost like some of these characters were designed using some piss poor AI model... cause tell me how the bell character was the most expensive character to buy, and also the worst. His entire kit makes no sense. I wanted to like this game, but cant. At its current stage, not worth buying. Play literally anything else.
It's fun, but... -Needs to be better optimized (game gets super laggy in endless mode) -If your internet drops for 2 seconds while playing with friends you are booted and cannot rejoin. Hope this game receives updates!
Played since beta/early access. Game is fun but match making has always been a struggle. Havent played in a while and came back first time since 1.0 launched and seemingly the matchmaking doesnt work at all now? Every time I search for a lobby I get an error and sent back to main menu. Error message basically says unable to join due to unexpected error. I tried with crossplay on or off, and with various setting each with the same outcome. Would like to play but group play certainly makes the experience more fun and right now its not an option without having a premade group. Maybe I'll try again a bit later
Spell Brigade with friends is a very fun time. Just hop on with the boys run around creating cool spells and you will have a good time. Once you unlock a lot of wizards and enchantments it becomes a bit mindless and stale, but I got 48 hours out of it with my friends getting plenty more than that so its not a huge complaint. If more content or maybe game modes come out it will be an even better game, but in its current state I can still recommend it.
