Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
13 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,400 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

The game is great obviously. It's the one that started the whole trilogy after all. However, the more the years pass the more it shows it's age. First of all on modern systems, you might crash every half and hour or so because "vurtual memory has run out" or something. This is due to the fact that the game is an older 32bit programm. The most commonly suggested solutions do not work, at least for me. So i am putting here the only one that it resolved the issue. The Large Address Aware application. I got it from here https://www.techpowerup.com/forums/threads/large-address-aware.112556/ Secondly, around Noveria and latter on, in the game, if you are running an AMD system you will have problems with the character models appearing as black minecraft-like characters. There is one way to resolve that by messing with the lighting but it makes everything bright af. Look for the SilentPatch for Mass Effect by Silent (yt channel CookiePLMonster), alternativelly. No downsides for me. For me, those two were the only issues i had with running the game. Now on to the gameplay. Everything PR related is great in my opinion, though a bit toned down compared to what i would like. Sometimes different dialogue options give the same result or even make Shepard say the same thing. The idea of the wheel though is great as a concept. You play this game for the characters and story, let's be clear on that. That's what has the most meat. Your companions are mostly great (Garus and especially Wrex stand out). Their dialogue and personaloties will 100% hook you up to their stories. One thing i would like to see, is the two crewmates talking to each other more ofter. You come across some instances of that here and there and it's brilliant and immersive. But rare. Other than that no major complaints. And of course, as i said in the beggining, the main story is very interesting and wont have you bored. The rest of the gameplay however, has issues. The AI is not that great and due to the maps, it is easy to funel enemies down to corridors. The map design is way to repetitive on non main mission worlds and the sidequests with some exeptions are all the same: go to one of two base layouts and shoot one of 3-4 enemies types. It's mostly a chore that you have to do if you want to get any serious equipemnt and money. The worlds you visit for those side quest are also uninspired and repetitive as they come (dont make me start with the Mako controls). Think starfield but worse. Of course the game came out in 2007 and they didnt have enough time before release. But still, the result is the result. Two final things i want to mention as somewhat major issues for my enjoyment was the UI, especially the points, equipment and inventory interface. The later one especially will be the bane of your existance in order to go through items and distribute them properly. No filter, nothing. At the same time you can choose where to spend your crew's points only when they acompany you. It is not that much of a problem because the rest of the time they aren't usefull, but still. It is annoying that i can see their skills only when they are with me and all of their equipment only in their lockers at the ship. Makes it more of a memory skill check to remember and combine their battle abilities. All in all, I highly recommend you play the game, just know that it doesnt stand the test of time in some areas.

13 on sale2 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 2 “not sold” markets are read from the Steam price pass of Sep 7: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price in those. The 13 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

First game is good, but second and third are outstanding
It's Dec 2024 and I ran into a sale for Mass Effect 1, 2, & 3 all in a new remastered package. I never played Mass Effect before so I thought I'd check it out, but I'm using an older PC so it didn't look like it would run well. I went ahead and got Mass Effect 1. It was about $4.50 (the whole remastered package was the same price) and so far it's been a lot of fun. I'll definitely be finishing the game, at least once, and would recommend it as a great bargain.
Obligatory recommendation because this is one of my favorite games. Completed it three times on Xbox, PS3 and PC. Not really recommended if you don't want to mod and troubleshoot for this to work. This game just doesn't work anymore on modern systems and without patching this yourself there are major visual glitches and crashes ahead. Other than that, this is the same classic and it's still here if you're averse to the new version for some reason.
I'm gonna have to downvote this game. Because by now it aged badly. lol Trying to replay it to get another save game for the series, I found out the game isn't able to reach current day resolutions, so I'm forced to play this in a tiny window. I suppose there's a mod for this somewhere. It also seems to have a memory leak, or rather, can't seem to allocate the memory it requires, and crashes often due to that. This can be worked around with a program called "Large Address Aware", but obviously it seems this game is just old and done with for the devs since issues like these weren't patched. So in terms of functionality, I guess it's just better to buy the Legendary edition, since it's released more recently and more likely to work properly on a modern PC.
Game's not 100 gigs and doesn't require you to download EA's ♥♥♥♥♥♥ service to launch the game that you just spent 2 hours downloading. No controller support, but that's okay. It's a lil more buggy than the Legendary Edition though. That's about the only reason I'd recommend that version over this one. Game itself is just KOTOR but actually fun.
Better than the legendary version IMO

To answer a question I had before buying this version of the game in 2025: it ran quite well on my computer! I had a lot of problems with the Steam version of Dragon Age: Origins (to the extent that I basically had to apply a mod just to play it at all), but Mass Effect 1 ran smoothly on its own for the most part. In 50 hours of gameplay I only had one crash. I'd say that's pretty good for a game from 2007! The graphics also hold up surprisingly well in my opinion -- some of those planetscapes were still absolutely breathtaking to experience for the first time even now. Generally, the design direction of the game is strong enough that it holds up great despite its chunkier polygons. If you're not allergic to older games in general you'll be fine. Anyone looking to buy the game in 2025 will probably be wondering whether to get this version or the Legendary Edition, and honestly I think the main two differences are just price vs computer space. The Legendary Edition is overall cheaper, as it's sort of a bundle of the original trilogy, but honestly the original game still holds up without the remaster imo and takes up far less GB. So really, it will depend on your specific needs, I think. The original versions of Mass Effect 1 and 2 also don't have Steam achievements if that's a deal breaker (although there are in-game achievements). All of the games' original DLCs are included for free now too. In terms of gameplay, there are clunky elements to the combat, and a lot of repetition in quest design (especially side quests -- get ready to know two or three enemy base designs very very well lol). But I think what brings people back to this game has always been the story. Personally, there are elements of the writing I find... silly at best, rather ignorant about American militarism at worst. (The politics of this game in general.. hoo boy. The series as a whole is weirdly obsessed with eugenics as a plot point, and I mean weirdly, to a weird degree. It's weird.) But the slow build-up of the plot's mystery, the cool aliens, the genuinely deep and enjoyable characters, the freaky awesome space horror elements, the dumb explosive action movie hype moments... all of that together made for an experience that I was just super invested in by the end. The climax of this game had me hootin and hollerin. Despite the obvious flaws, I was very much on board by the end of it, and I think that's this game's real strength. It takes skill to concoct an experience that is just, at base level, so engaging and fun. And I think that's why people never forget this game -- it just accomplished that so well.
