Well it's a nice little game, nothing hugely different, It will annoy you a lots, because you will die a lots. I don't understand Sony and Bungie, Destiny franchise was supposedly be huge, movie opportunities, Halo was theirs! This is when creativity is replaced by Hard Business choices. The game is ok, better than Destiny and Halo? Not so much.
if you love destiny or halo or both and love bungie's movement, gunplay, details, then you will love marathon. it is not your normal extraction shooter and honestly got me on board with the genre. every match and interaction is unique and one of a kind. definitely need to be willing to learn a bit at first but once you even START to understand some things, the game will become addicting asf i promise. if you are looking for a game with addictive gameplay, one of a kind encounters every fight, and something that will keep you coming back for more then this is definitely the game for you. put the hate aside and come to the game with an open mind and i promise you that you will love it. great people on the game if you play solo. cant express how much i love this game.
Easily in the top 5 games of the last decade.
I sold my sold to the all-knowing AI that hides in the walls of the NuCaloric break room and all I got was a 18% discount on drinkable cheeseburgers.
Pros: -Interesting story, art direction & setting -S-Tier gunplay and mechanics -Level design always keeps things interesting -Super tense, rewarding PVP Cons: -Core gameplay loop increasingly feels like an arena shooter with more steps. You either wipe the map or get wiped -Small, sweaty player base and you can only get so much out of the game playing solo. You eventually either use an LFG or fill with randos. People either very chill or maidenless chuds Conclusion: I am 140 hours in and probably wont pick it up regularly until they add more content or figure out how to not have it be a total sweat fest
Fun game

Banger of a game. Masterclass of art direction. Magnificent gunplay and audio. Such a shame that the bad talk from haters overshadow the pros of the game ...
The best extraction shooter I have played. Arc Raiders was great, but does not have close to the depth this game has when you really want to dig into something with a lot of layers. The main thing I warn people of is that this game can be a little sweaty for some.
Man after the initial beta, I hated this game. I wrote it off as Bungie's first true failure in my lifetime. But during the free weekend, after fighting with the Focusrite / BattleEye issues, I managed to get into a few matches. This time the game didn't stutter and to my surprise, I had a blast. The art style was still extremely cool to me, though still polarizing to many. The gunplay was phenomenal and the maps fun to explore. The expansion of the Marathon lore was also very intriguing and kept me interested. The real kicker though for me was the incredible sound design and OST for this game. The audio team really hit a homerun with every little decision they made. As an fledgling audio engineer, I appreciate how every faction card has its own little theme, the sound of a missile drone patrolling nearby, and the beautifully strange music that plays while waiting to que for a match. For those who have written this game off or are protesting this game out of hatred for Bungie's murder of Destiny, please separate the two franchises and give this game a shot. As a lifelong Bungie fan including Halo and Destiny, this new installment of the Marathon franchise does not disappoint. The hatred online is valid for some, but overblown by many who have never played and never will play this game. make your own opinion as I did. Don't blindly follow others opinions as I did at launch. Bungie hasn't missed in terms of making a new franchise. I know Marathon isn't a new franchise but this is definitely a new take on extraction shooters, the only one that has managed to hook me. Give the game a shot. It takes a bit longer than youd expect before it hooks you. But be warned, when it does it has a choke hold. -Adjutor
