The most engrossing game world I've experienced in many years. I'm not usually big on extraction shooters, but this one has me hooked. Wonderful writing, art, sound, and top of the line gunplay as per usual from Bungie.
I have a great time and am personally a big fan of bungie's gunplay. I wish more people would play this and give it a shot. Would 100% recommend if you like bungie gunplay, extraction shooters, or even fps in general!
I thought extraction shooters were boring until I played this game. It has an incredibly unique and nice to look at art style, interesting lore, great gunplay, and fair level of difficulty. Devs are also incredibly active when it comes to updates and take player feedback and actually turn it into improvements for the game, a rarity nowadays. Coming from someone who disliked the genre, this game is actually fun. I even decided to buy this game a second time when I switched from console to PC. Don't listen to the grifters. Support Bungie.
very fun just need more shells
Despite the game dying on player count, the gunplay and netcode are quite good. I think arc raiders was too big of a juggernaut to release this game during the peak of arc raiders. Hopefully one day they will release it F2P and we will see a resurgence because it is a well made game.
yes
Played it during next fest and brushed it off as a corpo-slop that the project manager came up with when they heard that extraction shooters were an up and coming genre. I guess that was kind of true, but in like a cool fun way. This is one of the few games I've played recently where I was excited to wake up and try it again. There is a learning curve of course, but I kind of think that is the whole point of the game. The aesthetic and theming, really really well executed imo, it is a huge draw for me at least. This is my first extraction shooter, and I guess I can say that I get it now. You can take it completely at your own pace. Especially as recon, recon is a really slow pace play style. There are different 'shells', they are like the different builds in destiny or borderlands. They have passive abilities, active, and specials that can be real game changers. You can customize everything about your shell and guns when you play (although i assume this is common among extraction shooters) and I really like the stakes when completing missions. I guess what I'm trying to say is, just give it a try. It would be a shame if this game died out, its genuinely really fun.
Good game! Please check!
Still having a ton of fun playing 4-5 hours/week. Crew fill will usually pair you with teammates with mics who are not getting bent out of shape about losing fights or gear. Overall the community seems really positive. The gunplay is as good as it gets. Runs without a hitch on my 2060 Super card.
Marathon is a hidden gem that deserves way more love I’ve put some serious hours into this, and honestly, I don’t get why the player base is so small. It’s a shame people are sleeping on this game because it’s actually fire, even with its quirks. The Ws: The visuals are top-tier. Map design is insane, and the Shell models look sick. The aesthetic is super fresh and vibrant—you won't confuse it with any other shooter. The audio is an absolutely breathtaking soundscape. The sound design carries the atmosphere 100%. From the ambient noise to the crisp gunshots, it’s pure ear candy. The gunplay feels incredibly snappy, the feedback from hits and the recoil patterns are spot on. It’s just fundamentally fun to shoot stuff. The HUD is super clean and minimalist, it doesn’t clutter the screen and keeps everything stylish. The Ls: Optimization-wise, it’s a bit of a mixed bag. The game was clearly built with consoles in mind, so it’s kinda badly optimized i guess? If you’re trying to push past 60 FPS, be ready for your rig to sweat. Also, there’s a hard cap at 120 FPS(which i never got, most fps for me is 80-85). The map pool is also still pretty shallow, so it can feel a bit repetitive after a long session. Plus, there is no real PvE yet. There’s no dedicated co-op, only the PvP-lite mode, which is a bit of a letdown. The Verdict: I’m really vibing with this game despite the tech hiccups and the content drought at launch. Marathon has its own identity and a unique atmosphere(from doing newbie story contracts to lore(which is actually huge!)) It’s a pity so few people gave it a fair shot. If you’re into stylish shooters, just buy the damn thing and enjoy
