This is by no means a Destiny- or Halo-level game, and some of the edgy visuals are questionable. But for what it is—an extraction shooter—it’s a good game. The gunplay feels satisfying, and the environments, sense of danger, missions, and loot are all mechanically well made.
Absolute dog game. You have no chance against someone putting in upteen hours into this game. The game is designed for those that live on the thing. Bungie is far from what it used to be and should have learned lessons from failed ♥♥♥♥ like DayZ and WarZ. Extraction shooters aren't it! This game isn't paving any pathways, the game is a hodgepodge cluster. Allowing comments so people can cope and flame.
This game is a beautiful mashup of Destiny's gunplay, set in an extremely clean, color saturated world that would make Neville Brody proud. The environmental storytelling is top notch, and this visual style is much preferred to all of the drab brown FPS games on the market. Picking a skin for your character? Take whatever you want. Neon red will still blend into the visually busy landscape. I'll admit that I didn't understand this game at first - I played the beta and wasn't really hooked even after 4 hours of gameplay - but when this game clicked, it *clicked*. This game leans on spatial awareness through sound more than any other game I know of. Bring your best headphones. Play every class. Learn the sound of each ability and what class just armed their Search and Destroy ability behind the wall right next to you. This is an extraction shooter that hides a Battle Royale inside, along with movement shooter mechanics and one or two nods to Destiny-style raids. The maps are too small to be a classic extraction shooter: while most games lean on the threat of seeing players once every few games, you will almost certainly fight one or two teams in every game. In fact, it is not uncommon for experienced teams to attempt to wipe the lobby and spend the rest of the match grabbing loot in peace. You'll have multiple losses in a row where you'll spend some time back in the menus being frustrated at the power difference between you and the squad with all purple gear that just steamrolled you (and everyone else they saw that match), but slowly you'll start to acquire the game sense needed to turn the tables. I've been on both sides of that equation. I've gone zero to hero by performing identity theft on the experienced player who made the mistake of getting on a ladder right in front of me, and on the flip side I've received a knife to the face from around the corner while I was kitted to the teeth and stuck in my ult animation. You have to get over gear fear - it will all be lost at the end of the season anyways, so you might as well take the fun items for a spin at some point. Being honest for a moment: the game definitely has a niche appeal. However, we're slowly seeing a return to the PvE focus that it had before the game flipped directions during development, and the response has been very positive. My hope is that in a year or two Marathon will be recognized as the diamond in the rough that us beta players saw it as - and maybe, just maybe, it will be Bungie's next big IP.
好吃难嚼,弃之可惜
I’d say Marathon is an absolute 10/10 in the extraction shooter genre. Marathon is by far the best FPS experience I’ve had in the last few years and is by far my favorite extraction shooter I’ve ever played. It’s worth every penny, and I believe it has a bright future despite what the die hard haters of this game may say. At first, I was worried about the player count leading to impossible queue times (queues take less than a minute) and all the other negative things people were saying about it. The stigma around the game had kept me from buying it since it release. But let me tell you, this game is an absolute masterpiece and staple of the extraction shooter genre. If you're scrolling through these reviews trying to decide whether or not you should pick it up, it's an absolute must buy. Ive thousand of hours into Tarkov and a hundred or so in arc raiders. Though I do believe Tarkov is by far the best extraction shooter, to me there was always something missing. It's an incredible game but it never quite scratched that itch. Then ARC Raiders came along and got closer to what I was looking for but now I know Marathon was the game I In this genre I’d been searching for all along. First off all, the character designs, art style, and overall visuals are absolutely amazing. Every map has its own identity, the atmosphere is incredible. But what really makes this game so great is the gunplay and the abilities. One thing that always felt a little wonky to me in ARC Raiders was the gunplay and overall combat. It wasn't bad by any means but Marathon absolutely nails it. The weapons feel smooth, satisfying, and genuinely fun to use, and I've barely even scratched the surface of everything that's available. The abilities are also surprisingly well balanced so every Runner feels viable instead of having one obvious meta pick and each raid you could use a new runner and succeed no matter what. The maps are fun, rewarding to learn, and loot actually feels meaningful. Tarkov has always done looting exceptionally well because there's constantly something you're hunting for, whether it's a quest item, hideout upgrade, or gear and I believe Marathon captures this essence in full. ARC Raiders looting never quite captured that same feeling, it felt bleak and fairly meaningless. Marathon absolutely does. Different loot unlocks faction upgrades, crafting recipes, and gear progression. You can even salvage items to a little worm in your vault to upgrade your Runner's stats, which makes every successful extraction feel worthwhile. Almost everything you pick up has a purpose and that makes the gameplay loop incredibly addictive. I also think the learning curve is way less intimidating than people make it out to be. If you've played FPS games especially extraction shooters or even battle royales, you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. There's definitely depth to learn, but it's not nearly as overwhelming as some people claim. As for the PvE aspect they were able to capture the same magic destiny had, PvE isn’t overwhelming and doesn’t lead you to getting killed by other players because you engaged on bots, they arnt over powered but still rewarding to fight. The blend of PvP and PvE was done fantastic. Theres some runs I’ll go in just to fight bots or players, maybe even both. There’s countless missions (contracts) to do, ranging from PvP oriented and PvE. Sometimes a mix of both. It honestly makes me sad to see how much hate this game has gotten. That negativity kept me from buying it for way longer than it should have and I'd hate to see such a wonderful and well made game struggle because people wrote it off before giving it a real chance. So if you're on the fence about Marathon, just go for it. I seriously cannot put this game down. Every extraction has me wanting to queue up again, and I constantly find myself looking forward to booting it up whenever I have free time. It's been a long time since a game has hooked me like this. I genuinely hope more people give it a chance because it deserves way more love than it's getting. Keep in mind with all the hate people may say less than 72% of steam players finished the tutorial. So give the game a chance you won’t regret it.
Adictivo, profundo. Rendimiento excelente.
Marathon is one of those games that really gets you. There's no better feeling than going zero to hero in a single game. The art style is unique and simple enough to identify an enemy player throughout the arena. Something very good for someone as blind as myself. The movement, gunplay, and abilities run and feel very good. The weapons are unique and have various attachments to perform in different ways. The proximity chat provides for some of the funniest moments in gaming I've had in a while. Though this game isn't for everyone, it sure is for me :)
