Gameplay Mechanics: 8/10 Narrative: 6/10 Graphics: 6/10 Sound and Music: 6/10 Replayability: 8/10 Innovation: 7/10 Making History II: The War of the World is an ambitious grand strategy game set during the global conflicts of the early to mid-20th century. It offers a unique sandbox experience where players take control of nations and navigate the interconnected systems of warfare, diplomacy, and economics. While the game has its rough edges, its depth makes it rewarding for fans of strategic planning. The gameplay mechanics are a highlight, blending military, political, and economic management into a cohesive, if sometimes overwhelming, experience. The economic system, in particular, stands out for its complexity and realism, forcing players to plan many turns ahead while balancing industry, resources, trade, and the needs of the population. This economic depth adds a strong layer of strategy that rewards careful, forward-thinking decisions. While the interface can feel clunky at times, the game’s systems shine with time and patience. Gameplay earns a solid 8/10. The narrative is primarily player-driven, with a sandbox approach that allows players to rewrite history. While this freedom is enjoyable, the lack of emergent storytelling or significant historical events leaves the world feeling less dynamic than it could be. Narrative scores a functional 6/10. Graphically, Making History II is functional but outdated. The maps and unit designs are clear enough for gameplay but lack the polish and visual appeal of other grand strategy titles. Graphics score a 6/10. The sound and music are serviceable, with generic tracks and simple sound effects that set the tone but fail to elevate the experience. While they do their job, they don’t stand out or immerse the player fully, earning sound and music a 6/10. Replayability is a strong suit. With numerous playable nations, a vast world map, and a focus on sandbox freedom, the game offers plenty of opportunities for varied playthroughs. The economic system alone provides enough strategic variety to keep things fresh. Replayability scores a solid 8/10. Innovation is evident in the game’s focus on global economics and trade systems. The interdependence of resources, industry, and national planning provides a unique challenge, even if its execution is sometimes clunky. Innovation scores a commendable 7/10. In summary, Making History II: The War of the World is a deep and rewarding grand strategy game that shines through its complex and realistic economic system. While its presentation and interface may feel dated, its intricate mechanics and replayability make it a worthwhile experience for fans of strategic planning and alternate history.
Una alternativa decente, entretenida y menos compleja al juego Hearts of Iron, los juegos sucesores de esta saga (Making History: The Second World War & Great War) están más pulidos pero utilizan el mismo motor gráfico anticuado y no optimizado.
Hoher Suchtfaktor, gutes Spiel!
Easy to play, Can put concentration on strategy.
