About
Japanese Rural Life Adventure is a relaxing slow-life simulation where you can experience the charm of traditional Japanese countryside living, all in a beautifully crafted pixel-art world.

Fix up an old house, make the yard nice, grow your own crops, and become self-sufficient.
View the cherry blossoms in the spring;
attend the festival in the summer;
eat roasted sweet potatoes in the fall;
hear the temple bell ring in winter, and then it's time for the first shrine visit of the New Year.
Rice --- the essential source of energy for the people in Japan.
Salt, soy sauce, miso ---- seasonings no Japanese kitchen can do without.
In this countryside, many things city dwellers take for granted must be made by hand.
By standing in the kitchen or cooking around the traditional irori hearth of your heritage home,
you can simulate preparing a wide variety of dishes and seasonings.
Food made through your own effort tastes extra special.
Don't be surprised if the game makes you hungry!
Many events unfold depending on the season, location, and time of day.
A villager might ask you to repair an old waterwheel,
or to help reopen a shuttered candy shop.
Strengthen your relationships with the locals and restore the liveliness the village once had.
As you complete requests and interact with the villagers, you may earn useful items or unlock new areas to explore.
- Grow crops, gather materials, and produce goods to gradually improve your heritage home.
- Enjoy a wide variety of activities, including fishing and bug catching.
- Meet many villagers in your new hometown, help them with their troubles, and complete missions to open up new areas.
- Over 100 hours of total playtime packed with numerous in-game missions.
Your journey begins as the protagonist, a newcomer from the city, starts a solitary life in an old countryside house.
Start by clearing the overgrown weeds, cleaning the floors, and repairing the "shoji" paper screens.
By the time you've completed the tutorial, you'll have learned the basics of village life.
Each morning, an elderly woman visits to sell daily necessities, and each afternoon, a man arrives to buy items you no longer need. Buy and sell goods as you steadily gather everything required to thrive in the village and complete your missions.

At first I thought wow what a fun relaxing game. Then the nightmare began. Nightmare is a strong word. Let's say frustration. I'm not one for keeping pets in games. I love planting crops instead. However, you are forced to keep multiple animals. The bad part of this is that they don't just have cat food or dog food or bird feed. No, their tastes change. You are happily feeding them berries, and then bam! They want fish. Not just any fish, it's a list of maybe 4 different fish to choose from. But you can't find any of those fish. You keep capturing everything but those choices. Then you make sure you have several of those things, but it doesn't matter because their tastes changes again. Then the animal wants sliced cucumber for example, but you haven't grown cucumber lately. So you plant some. That means the animal is going hungry each day while you wait for the crop to grow. When you don't feed the animal, it's losing trust in you. That's anxiety inducing, so there goes your relaxation. With the animals randomly wanting sliced veggies, you don't know if it's okay to sell your veggies. I love selling what I grow, but now I'm paranoid I won't have something the animal wants to eat. Then to sell anything, you have to have two different items. If you don't have one, you can't sell the other. For example, if you don't have enough cucumbers and carrots, you can't sell either one. Selling anything is like that, numbered combinations of items, from flowers, to wood, to veggies, to bugs, to fish. Nothing sold by itself or in singles. Why is this so complicated? To help the village, one of the tasks is to gain the trust of 27 cats. Yes, 27! You have to go around looking for signs of a cat and then from day to day try to gain its trust. You give it cooked fish and have to come back the next day. Nope, it didn't like that fish. You have to figure out what to give the cat since it's so finicky. Do I need to do this 27 times? Will the cat change what it wants half way through the building trust process? Forget that! Don't get me started on the awful experience trying to take pictures with the camera. I was confused about how to do this for a while. The indicator bobbed about erratically while there was a circle at the bottom of the screen. It took me forever to figure out that circle was how I snap the photo. Good luck taking a photo without scaring off the animal. Normally, I love crafting in a game, but omg it takes fifty thousand steps to build something and you constantly run out of materials while doing it. Materials you have to get from gathering and/or buying, and while you're doing it, the day turns to night, so what should have been a simple hour build takes you several days because you run out of materials constantly and some other game mechanic thrown into the mix just to make your life difficult. In the middle of washing a car for someone it turned winter and I couldn't do anymore until the season changed. That's how nutty this game is. That task should have been five minutes. This is not the cozy relaxing game I thought it was.
Asthetic wise, the game has a great vibe on how living in a rural area with a small community should be very lonely feel and pretty much self establish doing. Only small problem is it drag the game too damn long, making money is like too damn hard, you think Grave Yard Keeper make you work hard, this game make you extra hard and give you back too constrict on gameplay, onlything you could do constantly is fishing, but they gate keeping you to make money by selling to a seller that come you your place on the after noon but only buy a specific bundle, some of the fish is no where to be seen I pass the point of fixiing some house in near your farm and when you done that place for doing nothing @@, or something when you donate item, but i give up @@ There is many special ocation mark on the calendar for you but that is it, not much to say what to do. all you could a finding in this rural place at your own pace which is tooo slow even for those patient enough @@ Cooking have a minigame which is not bad but getting repetitivie after a while if youi want to get like 10 of that cooking item, i basicly waste 1/5 of time playing to cooking fish on the grill =]]]] Pro: Give you the feeling of how hard living as a farmer in Japan, A lot of cat for you to make friend with? Some what a mystery? Snake everywhere after a certain point in game Cons: Too hard, i spend 18 hours and just quit, you bettet spend that time on other game Stardew Season of story, your progress better in anyother game, i quit when the fcking Mayor asking be 50k of money omg i make like arond near that money and spending on the town fixing and upgrade life but i wont wast 10 or more hours to just farm for that money, it feel like Joja money right on way, you not get that much say from town people let alone thank from some random people appear as tourist to the town @@? Those cat need food and toy to try, and those thing cost money it back to be around money again Farming fishing making porcerlain the worst is cooking, and look at the achivement there is a lot of achivent require you cooking alot of item, that is a lot of demand which i feel doesnt worth it You could reach the top pretty soon in this game, the forest have some secret inside but not much else so sad they could make this game better but they refuse, kill me if i have to spend 100 hours to finish this game The UI kinda funny but still not that bad but you need to keeep your mouse in range to click if not you cant do anything
I'd give this a 3/5. I like: - slow paced but engaging Japanese homesteading, with details like growing a bonsai and making a windchime - learning about Japanese cooking and customs - your own pet cat and local cats around the village - pixel art style - relaxing music - fishing in fun and easy - plenty of time to get stuff done during the game day (almost too much time sometimes) - loved unlocking the village revitalization tasks, which gave me a lot to do and a good cash flow - good stamina system and "getting stronger" by just playing the game giving you more max stamina - daily gifts in the mail - making pottery I don't like: - ground clutter resulting in getting stuck a lot, it's annoying - despite the guide, a lot feels unclear and I often have to tab out to google questions - as another reviewer said, feeding animals is not straightforward at all - wish I could sell items individually instead of in bundles with other items, sometimes limits my cash flow and I don't get why it's like this - not very many character customization options - firewood splitting station is too close to the well, always have to toggle between the action bubbles when I want to fill my bucket or watering can and end up accidentally getting into the firewood minigame too often
I love this game, I played it forhours on my phone when I had my free three months of apple arcade. I am so happy it is finally on steam, I may also have tograb a copy for my switch as it is perfect for switch. You play as a newcomer to a rural Japanese town that needs a breath of new young life. Clean up a school, build a museum, tidy and repave the roads, befriend the neighbourhood cats; everything brings new life to the area. This game is not life stardew valley, each animal you have and faring plot is pre-placed. You are following a story the devs have layed out for you. It's not a sandbox game. If you buy a tree sapling you have to plant itexactly where that specific tree is supposed to go. Personally - I love that. It allows the game to explore progression in smaller ways. You made a meal that the sweet lady down the road liked. She will give you turnips next season. With those turnips you can make a meal she will like even more. Now you two are friends. This is a slow burn game, take as long as you need to complete the goals before you. Take each day as it's own. Enjoy the ride. Live here for a bit.
