Maia is a colony building game set in the not-so-distant future. Your colonists make planetfall on a hostile world and you must ensure their survival and their safety, constructing their off-world habitat from almost nothing and sheltering them from a dangerous, often deadly environment.

once you figure out the nuances of this game its actually quite engrossing, yes things can be buggy, when the AI doesnt behave like you think it should but generally speaking it just means a build order got mucked up somewhere and needs deleted and replaced. or something is blocking pathing and needs removed. the ONLY complaint i have about the game is sometimes the procedurally generated maps dont give you much space to build in near where you start and you have to expand to other "caves" pretty quickly.
I bought this game hoping it would get better. It didn't. Very clunky. Do not buy.
My "Last played" is 11 years ago and still nothing it seems.
This is a conflicted positive review. Maia can be a crash-filled, buggy piece of crap but it's awesome when it works. I think most of the negative reviews of the game come down to the lack of feedback on what/where/why things are/aren't happening with your colonists. For example, most people would think "I'll build hydroponics before I build a hospital, because...why wouldn't I?". Because if you don't, your colonists will never harvest hydroponics because they'll be freezing to death in a corner of the base. There are dozens of things like that in Maia and once you figure out the process it's actually a really rewarding colony builder.
This game started me down the path of abandoning early access. It wasn't the final straw but it was instead one of the first that made me realise that many game developers going through early access are lazy people merely testing the waters and have no concept of ever finishing their piece of haphazard software code. 8 years on maia still teaches me this lesson each time I scroll on by. Great job Simon Roth.
Abandoned
I know that this game has been a huge work in progress over the years, BUT its now playable and is a fun low stress game I am happy to recommend.
ABANDONED WARE. The fact that the game is over 10 years old and completely abandoned by the developers and Steam is selling full price 24.99 US means yes they have no soul or moral accountability, JUST LIKE ALL MONOPOLIES!
I bought this as soon as it hit steam and early access games were still in their infancy. I thought it looked so cool, and I was excited to participate in the development process.....now....I can't believe this is still available for purchase. What a disappointment. Game had promise, but never was finished and ended up being pretty much garbage. Super clunky. Don't buy.
I love the Idea of this game, but the AI seems to be so atrocious that it is impossible for me to enjoy it. The colonists simply will not drink water and so die at an alarming rate regardless of my resources. Am I doing something wrong? Yes, probably, but I cannot figure out what it is and have lost interest in trying.
