Maia is a colony building game set in the not-so-distant future. Your colonists make planetfall on a hostile world and you must ensure their survival and their safety, constructing their off-world habitat from almost nothing and sheltering them from a dangerous, often deadly environment.

Feels like the devs at some point just phone it in at release. the game has potential and it can be challenging which is great. However, there is a bit of a learning curve that is not covered in the tutorials. after the last update the game wont stop crashing. so save often and pray the game doesnt crash. For the most part it can be entertaining, it just feels like there is something missing.
Abandoned, don't bother.
I am sad because this game is unplayable. Settlers build things in a random order and straight-up ignore build orders (to their own detriment). Firefighting robots sit next to a fire with no attempt to put it out. People die of suffocation in the middle of a room because they haven't moved in two days. Doors break CONSTANTLY. I want it to work, but, after trying to get two beds built for four hours, I'm out.
Undead, Unfinished, 2 hours of playability at best
Maia is a promising game but it is very unpolished. For a base builder it is certainly challenging, but ultimately the problem is that the unit A.I. is just awful. There is no means of organizing your builders to give things priority. For example, you would like to give your people orders to build heaters and atmospheric control, and you have the resources, but they ignore the thing that is killing them. Half the time the sprites are running about following irrelevant paths to nowhere. It is all very frustrating.
I'd love to recommend this game. I've had it for years, and despite the bugs, glitches, and most recently crashes (One play per install, if it glitches or crashes I have to uninstall, then reinstall) the concept is there. The potential is there. Sadly, it seems to be a dead game, and if it isn't dead, it should be placed in hospice.
Whew, I really really tried to give this game time, and even cut them a lot of slack to work out the details. But years later, many years... Only a few updates that did minor things from what I can tell.... Yea, one update every other year, with very minor things done. Sorry, this game is basically, unplayable. Its like a little tech demo thing that is absolutely terrible gameplay wise. You can pause the game and use the robot to mine stuff. You can build a clunky nonsense base that glitches a lot and makes no sense. Your colonists are constantly dying of cold no matter how many wall heaters you build. You can't grow food fast enough for squat.... Your people move sluggish and slow to do anything... Your rooms appear to be mostly useless.... My god, there's nothing decent about this game at all! Its got that sort of Rimworld in 3D itch, but it fails miserably. Released 2018, here its 2025, no REAL updates to fix ANY issues... Yea, it absolutely deserves its mostly negative review. Seriously dev, why? Why didn't you at least TRY? You totally had the chance to turn this game around. I will gladly test and help out but come on! Actually do something! I love game testing, and I love giving feedback, but playing this for 5 minutes I can see major game breaking bugs immediately. On a completely different computer and operating system than my last attempt. If the dev actually wants to improve upon this, I can absolutely point out areas for that, but I'm not gonna put forth the effort without them coming forth and asking for my assistance because frankly, tons of people have posted in the discussions about this game over the many many years and it seems ignored. You want my help, ask, and I will make a video with commentary on it. As for anyone else considering this game? Not even if it is on sale. Don't bother, its a fancy tech demo in its current state.
Firstly, bear in mind this is one developer's labour of love -- a true indy game. It also came out in 2018, although there have been occasional patches and updates. Taking that into account the graphics and animations are top notch, it's not too buggy and it's a reasonable length. Since I first played the dev has added a campaign mode, which is probably the best way to play through the first time, but I go back to the "explore" (a random worldgen mode) every few months to cause some chaos! It has an excellent, if chiefly British, sense of humour. If you like Douglas Adams, Red Dwarf or similar you should have some fun with the flavour text.
