War cool.
Magnus Imago :
I. Magnus Failure II. Magnus Imago III. Magnus Positive Phototaxis IV. Lazarus A.D. 2222 Second of the magnus serie about an hour to complete I'm usually not a fan of puzzles but I like the art style and atmosphere, also there's an easy mode which is nice for people that just want to focus on the story.
Video: https://youtu.be/cIf9e8N0gWc Pretty enjoyable second outing in the Magnus series. This takes a slightly different approach than the first game, putting us into a more Myst like experience. It was a bit more reliant on the hidden object aspect, and some things were a bit harder to piece together. But I still finished it pretty dang quick. I definitely enjoy the idea of mixing adventure, puzzle, and hidden object aspects into one nice package.
Imago might be the most inscrutable of the 4 Magnus quadrilogy games, but it’s more than worth it for the animation sequences alone. Check out the guide for help if you need, it’s worth seeing it through to the end and continuing on to the other Magnus games. I love this series of games. I wrote an essay analyzing them as a collection, speaking with one of the brothers behind them for the piece. Play these games, they are more than worth your time. http://www.pressplaygaming.net/articles/2024/1/19/unravelling-sons-of-welders-magnusnbspgame-series
Piękna, rysunkowa grafika, schizowata i pokręcona historia. Szkoda że tak krótka. Mimo to polecam. Nawet nagrałem krótką recenzję i przejście gry: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wq3nnTDdiVg
Magnus Imago is a visually unique, abstract point-and-click puzzle game with elements of exploration and adventure. It takes the player on an atmospheric journey through a mysterious world full of strange scenes and ambiguous events. It is a sequel to the 2021 release Magnus Failure, but it is not necessary to play the first game in order to understand the second. Magnus Imago uses point-and-click mechanics to steer the player through a series of puzzles, mostly inventory based. However, there is a selection of more logic focused and environmental puzzles to provide some variety. The imagery and scenery in Magnum Imago range from phantasmagorical to macabre to surprisingly charming and it is depicted in a uniquely sketchy black and white art style that is a stand out feature of the game overall. It is a short game that will require one to two hours of playtime depending on the mode selected. Its blend of abstract aesthetic elements and ambiguous narrative work well together and despite a somewhat abrupt ending the game provides a very satisfying experience overall. A short but interesting game with a strange feel. I can't quite explain it, but the games from this developer are simply something special. You can also play the games individually, but it's best to get them in a bundle or in a sale. Since the game is not that long, I recommend that you really get it during the sale. The puzzles aren't that difficult and I didn't have any technical problems.
I feel like playing this game sober is detractive to the experience. The price of 13 PLN (cheapest there is, ~3 EUR) is almost reasonable, but 9 USD/EUR (in applicable regions) for a game that's ~1 hour long is just way too much.

It's worth it though! First impression: The start menu Image is striking. Simple, yet so beautiful. I want it as a wallpaper. Unfortunately, the game settings don't give you many options. No sound or resolution settings. Just language. After clicking on new game, you are given the choice to select either Easy or Normal mode. I chose to start with easy, since it does allow you to change this during gameplay. Easy mode gives you a dynamic cursor that will change its image depending on the possible interactions. Normal mode will not do this. It requires the player to be more perceptive and aware in order to spot useful items. I wanted to be able to see these differences so I thought starting with easy may be the best way to go. After selecting your new game difficulty, A text narrative will start with beautiful hand drawn scenes as background. It had the feel of a visual novel, just passing through the pages. Just like a novel you can go forward or back through these pages. Until the end. You are taken to the game screen. Same type of art style as in the images and first game. You will see your inventory on the left side of the screen. I missed the cool looking inventory style of the first, but I understand the reception for it wasn't as favorable as perhaps expected. To the right of the screen, you will have first, an eye icon that lets you pause-then resume, save, choose your game mode or save and exit. In the middle you will have a magnifying glass that lets you examine items and lastly your music player (like in the first game). All the art/scenes are hand drawn. Every time I clicked on something to expand or view - I was just more impressed than the last time. Although the buttons did not return for the inventory management, they did return in some aspects like when analyzing an expanded area or when having to interact with an item in your inventory or close an expanded scene. I liked the buttons. I am glad they are in some way back. The point and click mechanics are smooth and mostly intuitive. The game does not hold your hand so don't expect it to. You do have to think and analyze to try to connect the dots. If I had to compare between the first game and this one, I think this one did a much better job linking the items you need through clues, that in the end lead you to your next step. Even if you choose easy mode, you have to put your brain to work to solve the puzzles. With that said, it isn't frustratingly hard, nor hard really. You just have to think before jumping from one to the other. Sometimes just because the order looks to be 1 then 2 then 3, doesn't mean that's how you'll find the answers. Possible spoiler, so better be safe and mark it.
Oh!!! I clicked on something and got a cinematic! That took me by surprise. Very cool! The video looked to be about nature, greenery, some insects. I believe I saw moths, butterflies and a chrysalis, which would go very well with the start screen theme and some items I've already collected and seen so far. I was able to rewatch the video by backing out and clicking on the object again. Story wise it's a post-apocalyptic world, so seeing such vibrant colors and life, I'd imagine would be a big thing for the main character. On my second watch, I think the video is meant to have been taken in the room we are in. - Side note- the video's music was so relaxing, I admit I closed my eyes for more than a second or two. Oops.
I won't deep dive scene by scene or I'll spoil the whole thing, but
I did notice a general theme of transformation throughout the game. It's at times subtle but fitting. Other times it feels up front, like we are meant to know.
I may have mentioned this before, as I see it, these games are mini art pieces. A collection of art pieces when put all together, in game form instead of a canvas. Interactive art, I think this whole project and series so far is brilliant. I know I am going against popular reviewers by praising this game but sometimes we can't box ourselves into only seeing something as one thing. This is definitely many things, and so far, I love all of them. Keep making amazing art. Side note- Music has been amazing in these games so far. Love it!
