С психоделическими элементами, смеси стимпанка и религии. Magnus Positive Phototaxis 는 - 게임의 Positive Phototaxis 는 양성 주광성이라는 뜻으로, 빛의 자극에 반응하여 빛으로 가까이 움직이는 생명체의 성향을 의미하는 단어로, 식물에 빛이 비춰지면 광합성을 하기 위해 움직이는 걸 생각하면 된다. 오늘의 단어같이 토막 상식으로 알면 좋은 단어이기는 하지만, 이 게임의 내용과는 관계가 있을 수도 없을 수도 있다. - 알 수 없는 세상 속에서 퍼즐들을 풀어가면서 앞으로 나아가는 주인공, 그리고 이를 감상하며 혼란스러워 하는 플레이어를 담은 포인트 앤 클릭 게임이다. Magnus 게임 시리즈의 3번째 게임이라 그런지 이전 게임들보다는 게임성 면에 있어서 발전되었는데, 과거에는 불편한 3인칭 방식을 도입하였다가 이 게임에는 전형적인 포인트 앤 클릭 게임플레이 방식을 도입하여서, 같은 시리즈의 다른 게임들보다 좀 더 직관적인 게임플레이를 제공한다. 시리즈의 한 게임이라 "이거 이전 작품들 안 하면 스토리 하나도 이해할 수 없는 거 아닌가요?" 라고 생각할 수 있지만, 걱정하지 말자. 어짜피 스토리가 난해해서 게임을 해도 이게 뭔 이야기인지 이해가 하나도 안 가고, 이전 작품들과 스토리가 대놓고 이어지지 않아서 전작들 해도 전혀 도움 안 된다. 신기하게도, 게임이 완전히 텍스트 없이 진행되는 게임은 아니고 종종 스토리와 관련된 텍스트가 나오기는 하는데, 그냥 게임이 하고 싶은 말 하는 기분이라 "아 그렇구나 ~ " 하고 넘기는 식의 내용밖에 없다. 텍스트의 경우, 게임 내 보여지는 이미지들이 종교적 (정확히 말하자면 성경 관련) 이미지들이라 그런지 약간 그런 내용의 텍스트가 나오기는 하는데, 성경에 대해 잘 안다고 게임을 잘 이해하는 건 전혀 아니여서, 그냥 종교적 이미지에 기반을 둔 시각적 방향이라고 생각하면 편하다. 사실 이 게임에서 게임플레이보다 더 눈여겨 봐야 할 것은 포인트 앤 클릭 부분 / 퍼즐들이 아니라, 비주얼이다. 그림체는 손으로 그린 듯한 그림체여서 초반에는 약간 투박한 느낌이 강하지만, 중후반부로 가면서 일반적인 장소가 아니라 뭔 신성한 공간에 들어온 듯한 분위기에, 오브젝트들의 경우도 성스러운 심장이나 천사들이 보이면서 확실히 초현실적인 분위기를 잡아놓는 데 성공하였다. 여기에 더해 이 게임에서는 특이하게 약 2번 정도 게임 내 비디오가 나오는데, 정확한 목적은 게임 내 특정 퍼즐을 완료하면 나오는 연출을 비디오로 표현한 것이지만, 해당 영상이 게임 내 그림체와는 확연히 다르기도 하면서 뭔가 물리 / 과학 관련 유튜브 교육 동영상을 보는 느낌이라 보는 재미가 있었다. 비록 후반부에서는 비디오를 보여주기 힘들었는지 안 나오지만, 게임 초반부에 다른 포인트 앤 클릭 게임들과 차별점을 주기 위해 넣은 효과를 확실히 발휘하였다. 개인적으로 위에서 말한 초현실적 / 종교적 분위기를 연출하기 위해 만든 비주얼은 확실히 취향을 저격하여서, 보는 재미는 약간 있었던 게임이었다. 다만, 그렇다고 게임이 처음부터 끝까지 친절하고 흥미로운 게임이라고 할 수는 없었다. 다른 포인트 앤 클릭 게임들과 비교하면 상호작용 할 수 있는 부분을 찾는 게 힘들다던가 퍼즐을 해결하는 방식이 좀 난해하다던가 하는 부분이 여전히 존재하며, 엔딩 부근에서는 퍼즐을 다 풀어놓고 뭘 해야 엔딩을 볼 수 있는지 상호작용 하는 부분을 찾는 것도 힘들었다. 즉, 비주얼이 괜찮았을 지는 몰라도, 막상 포인트 앤 클릭 게임으로써 재미있었냐 ? 하면 긍정적인 대답을 주기 굉장히 애매한 게임이었다. 다행히 유튜브에 누군가 공략을 올려 놓아서 막힐 때마다 참고하면서 게임을 진행할 수 있었지만, 괜히 상호작용 하는 걸 몰라서 막힌 걸 생각해 보면 게임이 여전히 편의성 / 인터페이스 면에서 갈 길이 여전히 먼 게임이라고 생각한다. 또한, 위에서 게임 내 비주얼이 마음에 들었다고 적긴 했지만, 사실 아름답다 / 사실적이다 같은 범위와는 거리가 먼 비주얼이고, 나처럼 괴이해 보이는 이미지들을 보면 환장하는 사람들에게 취향이 적격했다는 거지 흔히 보이는 "비주얼이 마음에 들었다" 라는 수식어가 붙은 게임들과는 거리가 먼 게임이다. 그러니까 시각적 매력이 취향을 타는데, 게임플레이는 특별하다고 할 수 없고 오히려 피로감이 더 큰 기분이라 게임을 완전히 추천하기 애매하다는 것이다. 결론적으로, 이색적인 비주얼을 지닌 포인트 앤 클릭 게임이지만, 게임플레이 자체는 매력적이거나 재미있다고 느끼기 애매한 게임이었기 때문에 비추천. 그나마 다행인 건 플레이타임이 약 1시간 정도 나오는 매우 짧은 게임이며, 도전과제의 경우도 따기 매우 쉽기 때문에 그러한 면에서는 피로감을 느낄 만한 게임은 아니라는 점이었다. 여담) Thanks for the gift, American Dove Mitten !

[b]Note:[/b] Before I start my review, I want to point out that this is the first game in the Magnus-versus series that I played. However, this is technically the third game in the four game series. I plan on playing and reviewing the other games at some point, but at the time of this review, the only game that I don't have is [i]Magnus Imago[/i]. [h1]Reality from Fiction - Finding out who you are :o[/h1] [h2]Introduction[/h2] [i]Magnus Positive Phototaxis[/i] is a slightly horror, point-and-click game developed and published by Sons of Welder and FM Simple Games Studio. As I mentioned in my note, it is the third game in the Magnus-versus series. You take on the role of an unnamed character, trying to distinguish reality from fiction. Journeying through various places, you attempt to escape the prison of negativity that you're in and head towards freedom. With the gameplay, it mainly consists of point-and-click elements where you pick up objects and use them in order to unlock rooms and go to other places. There are a few puzzles as well, and the story itself consists of four chapters, which proceed in a linear fashion. In addition, several Steam achievements are present, but they won't count towards a user's global total until the game is out of "profile features limited". [h2]Review[/h2] Initially playing this game, especially since it's actually the third game in the series, I didn't know what to expect. However, I believe that it's important to keep an open mind and such. ^^ First, the story felt confusing to me. To be fair, this could very well be because I haven't played the first two games in the series (although I plan on playing and reviewing the first game at some point since I currently have it in my library). Even though I like how it starts off on a philosophical note, with there being narration about feeling trapped when a fetus is inside its mother's womb, there isn't much of a story here. The impression that I got is about the idea of escaping from a negative environment and finding freedom, which is a very good theme. However, I feel that it would have helped to have more narration and perhaps, some recap at the beginning in case someone hasn't played the previous games. Nevertheless, I enjoyed how the story ended. (Also, I should note that there are biblical references made at times, which felt confusing.) Regarding the gameplay, I didn't encounter any technical issues or whatnot. As for the puzzles, most of them were fairly doable although I found a couple to be on the challenging side. However, there is a Steam user walkthrough if you ever get stuck on completing those one or two pesky puzzles. All of the achievements unlocked for me without any problems, and it definitely helps to have a guide on hand as well as to take your time in exploring every nook and cranny and experimenting when it comes to unlocking rooms and completing puzzles. With the art, it has this beautiful hand-drawn style that is a signature from these developers. I like how it takes the player into this other world, but it doesn't feel too realistic. The colors are chosen well, and I should note that there are brief cutscenes at important events in the story. However, I should note that for anyone interested in this game, it's best to play it in the intended series order in order to minimize confusion, which I should have done. lol For the asking price, I feel like it's worth it, but you can wait to get it on sale, and it's in a few Steam bundles. Magnus Positive Phototaxis - это интересная коротенькая (максимум на пару часов) игра по типу квест-комнат. Плюсы: - простые и логичные загадки. Меня озадачила только загадка, в которой нужно воткнуть кинжалы в сердце - слишком много возможных комбинаций; - красивенькие и кринжеватые декорации; - ненавязчивая музыка. Минусы: - затянутые и не несущие никакой смысловой нагрузки видео-вставки; - слишком короткая для указанной цены.

Failure and this one are my two favourites of the series. The chapter structure, the colours and the themes of this one speak to me clearest. A wonderful hidden object puzzle game. I love this series of games. I wrote an essay analyzing them as a collection, speaking with one of the brothers behind them for the piece. [h1]WEIRD STORY 🫀 EVEN WEIRDER GRAPHICS[/h1] I liked the graphics and the weirdness of 100 hidden Cthulhu fish by this developer so I decided to give this game a try. It's a very short game (about 1 hour), with bazaar graphics and a weird story...I'm still not sure if I grasped the message they were trying to portray.   Each scene has directional arrows to guide you, so it was an easy game to navigate. There wasn't a lot of inventory to pick up, and there was very little to do in each scene, as far as interactive areas, or zoom zones. I felt the game would have been much more interesting if there was more to investigate, and more to do in each scene.   There are simplistic mini-games, such as swapping and rotating square tiles, or rotating rings on a disk. Most of the more elaborate puzzles involved clicking on color patterns after finding a clue.   Magnus Positive Phototaxis was just an okay game for me because unlike most adventure games, I didn't have a "pat yourself on the back" moment for navigating the adventure and solving intricate puzzles.
