I tried to like this game because I love both the Western genre and retro gaming. But this is just too broken. - Can't skip cutscenes. Don't force players to watch the same junk over and over. It's salt in the wound, given the game's annoying difficulty. - The difficulty is lazy. This seems to be the current rage in indie games. It's easier and cheaper to make a small game, and fill it with cheap deaths requiring numerous replays to simply take up time than it is to make a longer game with more thoughtful challenges. This is probably why you're forced to watch the same cutscenes and dialog over and over. (Spamming the action button to speed up repeat dialog doesn't help much.) - The mechanism for reloading your gun is broken. Half the time the character only reloads half the cylinders. You have to spam the reload button just to reload 6 bullets, all while dodging excessive junk on the screen. Not cool. - I get that it would be too easy if the enemies died after one or two shots. But having to shoot basic enemies 8 times (with a broken reload mechanism) is lousy. - The 'luck' mechanism is mostly random, and mostly just distracting and annoying. You and/or your enemy will randomly avoid damage for a second. Tedious, especially against the overpowered bosses. (You can trigger it manually but not many times.) - The bosses are overpowered. You only have to get hit 3 or 4 times and you're dead. The bosses? Their life bar is 20+ hits until they're dead. (Again, it's easier to make a short, cheaply hard game than a longer more thoughtful game.) - This game runs rather poorly given it's ultra low fidelity. (This one I could overlook if it weren't for the above glaring flaws.) For example, why am I seeing a loading screen at all? I have it installed on a SSD with a 3080 ti GPU. This game already has enough repetitive junk, I don't want to wait for loading on a graphically simple game like this on higher-end hardware. (I'm assuming the occasional in-game stutters are pseudo, intentional nostalgia because my frame counter never drops. But if these aren't intentional, well...) I wouldn't recommend this game at any price point, including free.

Gameplay is good enough and the game itsself is dripping with style, but I cannot forgive the designers for making the cutscenes unskippable. The bosses are hard and you will die a lot. Not being able to skip the bosses' introductory dialogs then is so incredibly annoying and such an obvious design flaw that I cannot bring myself to recommend Luckslinger. Check out the awesome music, though!
this games too hardd mannn not even fun hard just annoying ive only played for 9 hours because i hate myself
Breathtaking gameplay, intuitive controls, the coolest OST, fabulous duck and colorful villians! Thanks to the drunk sheriff! Good balance between the challenge and the fun!
Love the game and everything about it's simple classic style. The advertised description is spot on. Highly recommend for anyone that loves pixel games and groovy cowboy western tunes. I'm looking forward to either a sequel or more games from these guys. Great job!
This game is an interesting mix of Western and hip beats. The characters don't every really talk and instead are "voiced" by a series of record scratches and music. The levels can get a little repetitive as you figure out what will kill you or what you can do to avoid dying due to low luck but that just brings back the nostalgia of the old side-scrollers. I would definitely recommend this game because it is easy to play in 10-15 minute chunks until you get to a save point.

https://store.steampowered.com/curator/35596718/
For other game reviews, please follow us at What The Game?
Luckslinger is part Spaghetti Western arcade game, part RPG, and part sound machine. It is pixel art style taken to the extreme. For some reason the sounds and music are made a big deal in the game, complete with pixelated record players. There is also silly humor worked into the game, some of which is genuinely funny, most of which is just silly. Apparently Luckslinger has been around since 2015, so it is not a new game. Luckslinger is designed to be played via a controller. Although there are keys mapped to most of the controls, at least one of them is not and there is no way to change the controls. For a PC gamer with no hand-held controller, this game will be very difficult to play, maybe near impossible with the missing control (a forward roll action to dodge bullets). There are appear to be a few hidden or undocumented controls, because some combination of buttons pressed down cause actions that aren't mentioned, like flipping a coin. One critical action that isn't explained is reloading, and there isn't an obvious way to do it with a keyboard as the controller. In a game where it takes many bullets or knife throws to take down a single enemy, not having a simple reload mechanism is unforgivable. The graphics and sounds are a mixed bag. Everything is pixelated, but some play areas were lazily put together with bland rectangular geometry that look like kindergarten drawings. Yet other areas have a western feel that looks like an old arcade game. The sounds are similar. Much of the game there is a weird semi-western sound with DJ record scratching and repetitive trance-style sampling. Some areas, like entering a town, there might be a simple spaghetti western theme without the DJ nonsense, which sounds perfect. Luckslinger has some unvoiced dialog and shops that give it some RPG feel rather than just a fast-paced arcade game. There are shops that sell things like extra lives, health, and weapon upgrades for gold coins. For an arcade style game, the pace is surprisingly slow. The bullets are not all that hard to dodge, the traps not very hard to avoid. It possible to avoid bullets and jump right over enemies and just leave them behind. As far as "slinging luck" goes, it doesn't seem to have a control, it just happens. Luckslinger is a bust at $10; it is a game made seven years ago with controls that only work with a controller, and even then, not well. An arcade style game has to have rock-solid controls and Luckslinger is a controls mess that is not recommended.
