I played this game for 50 minutes, 50 MINUTES, and only got 5 scenes in, that is how lacking in logic the progression is. I've played every other lost lands game, loved almost all of them (except the 4th, it was boring), and there have been a few minor issues, but usually everything makes at least some sense. This one does not and I am so disappointed. I even watched the video of the curator who demo'd the game and he struggled with the same things I did. *SPOILERS - Discussing game content I struggled with* 1) You walk into the mansion and there are keys everywhere. You click on all these sets of keys, and by their design it is obvious some of them are items you are meant to pick up, but you can't pick them up, they are not even targetable. I had to go through each screen of keys and click on EVERY SINGLE ONE until I happened to get the right key. Out of like 40 keys, you can only pick up ONE, even though it is obvious you'll be using some of the other keys in the future. You're supposed to recognize the key you need by the design which matches the door it goes to..."matches". I wasn't paying attention to the design of the keys, there were dozens! I was watching the cursor waiting for it to change into a hand to tell me I could finally pick something up! 2) You eventually get into the workshop and...nothing. You pick up one item in there (that you can't even use until like 10 actions and 2 scenes later) and then nothing, You can't click on anything, no descriptions nor dialogue, just nothing. The guy in the demo and I did the same thing as I did with the keys; click on every single item in the workshop, but not even a "I can't use that right now". So it's back out into the starting scene with a currently useless object, nothing else in your inventory, and only one other scene available; the hall of keys where I've already clicked on every single one and found I can't pick them up, so why go back just to click through them again? Apparently, opening the workshop "unlocks" another key that NOW you can go pick up, despite it being untargetable before. 3) For the tower puzzle in the basement, why was the third tower chained and immovable? Moving only two towers made it way too easy, why even bother drawing a third tower when you don't even use it? 4) THEY MADE FOLNUR THE BAD GUY. HE KILLED MAARON. HE'S CURRENTLY AN EVIL HERMIT OBSESSED WITH MAKING KEYS. WTF. I loved Folnur and his integrity and humor. Even if they change these circumstances or explain them later in the game, I was so displeased by this and was immediately turned off towards any story line in which he is bad and obviously suffering. 5) Why is Susan so ornery? She's never been quick to yell or get upset, I like that she is usually level-headed, but man does she go on and on about not wanting to be there, Kiana is irresponsible for coming, etc. Susan neglected her relationship with her son for years to be able to go and help the lost lands, yet suddenly she wants nothing to do with the place? 6) What is up with the title. Why is it called "X". What the h*ll does "X" tell me about the story. The title is supposed to be a 1+ word teaser of the game itself. They've had a proper title for every other game except this one. I almost didn't buy it because I thought "it must be an off-brand spin-off series because Lost Lands always has a title". Pros: Despite my ranting, there are some pros to the game. I love the sound when you pick up objects and put them in your inventory, that sound has been consistent throughout the series and I appreciate it. I also like the soundtrack, and the fact they kept the same voice actors. They brought back multiple characters from the past, which is always nice. The graphics and artistry are well done [except for the cut scenes, but at least they're consistent in their quality (unlike the House of 1,000 Doors series, jeez)] and it was obvious they drew every single key beautifully. You can sometimes tell in a game that you'll use an object based on the difference in graphics quality between it and it's surroundings, but all these keys were shining and precise (some only stood out because they were particularly ornate). Overall, I don't recommend the game because of the above reasons, but if those don't bother you, it is still an otherwise well-done game. I hope the creators don't see this because they don't deserve this kind of criticism about the hard work they put in, I just need a space to say my piece. Go forth and play, my friends (just maybe not this game)
For the fans of Susan and the series a tenth adventure in the lost lands.. nice and at the same time, it feels a little odd. We meet Susan again, who has grown older, like in the previous parts .. this time she is an elder woman now. Due to her looks, one would not believe, she were able to master another go at this, but she does, and even risks fights against the opponent in house slippers.. To her side is her granddaughter, who perhaps could be the heroine of next adventures ? All in all I liked it, though Susan was not too convincing in that outfit and older women could look as fit as she proved to be in the end.. or not? I recommend it, though it was not as convincing as the other parts of the series
FIVE-BN has done it again. Lost Lands is one of my old-time favourites, amongst others, like New York Mysteries, Tricky Doors, Sacra Terra. I consider them one of the best (if not the best) hidden object and adventure games company still around. They successfully achieve to develop particularly good games by delivering well thought stories, medium to high difficulty mini games, engaging hidden object scenes, which usually are interactive and have a purpose, very well developed and interesting characters. They always manage to grip the players attention to the story, keeping them engaged. They transport us to locations with beautifully drawn backgrounds, full of detailed environments, keeping us immersed throughout all their games. The story: Lost Lands X—the "X" standing for mystery, the unknown factor —follows Susan's journey as she evolves from a young woman and mother to an older, grumpy grandmother in this last chapter. The usually interested Susan in all things Lost Lands is now in a stage in her life where all she wants is quiet, be with her family and not engage in perilous adventures, which she finds too risky to her and her own. Her granddaughter tricks Susan well let us be blunt, she gave her a good shove, into the Lost Lands portal, knowing quite well that she will not take the situation lightly. As a result, Susan is hell bent to see everything solved quickly, impatiently trying to get to the end of the ordeal as soon as possible, thus the grumpiness and anxiety. Anyway, Susan comes to realize that the situation is serious, and she is willing to go to extremes to save a beloved friend, who saved her life once or twice and even went to the length of sacrificing himself for her. The mini games and hidden object scenes: In the hidden object scenes, all the items are usable, whether to solve the challenge or for later use. The mini games all show a high-quality level and imagination. They are challenging, tricky and intricate and can be quite infuriating and frustrating. Overall, they fit quite well with this game genre and with the environments that Lost Lands has offered us throughout all its adventures. The Voice acting and the Music: Well, what can I say that has not already been said. From the first game to the last game, the voice acting performance is very strong. While there may be occasional exceptions, the overall quality is excellent. The well-known Lost Lands music is quite immersive from the beginning to the end and as usual, it fits quite well with the environment, keeping us engaged. Hoping that this is not the last of the Lost Lands adventures, I highly recommend this game to those who are fans of hidden object adventure games with unexpected twists, which are not typical in these types of games. The price is very reasonable and the game, lengthy for what we see nowadays, includes a Bonus Chapter, the usual collectibles, and other Extras.
The game has great puzzles. The end of the game, your stuck playing a timed sequence trying to get arrows and something else. You can't skip it! The game conversation holds you up on clicking as fast as you can to get what you need. Hints are not always clear in this part, so you lose clock time. I've played this part 6 times, I'm not going to finish the game. I was in casual mode.
The Lost Lands series proves that the HOG genre can be a serious competitor in the video game space. This series is the best one out there: great worldbuilding, storytelling, challenging and creative puzzles, artistic, and great voice acting. This particular game artfully recaps all previous 10 stories, so for best experience have the previous 9 fresh in your mind. This one was so good that I am motivated to go back and start over again! What a gem of a game, and a stellar series!
miluju tuhle celou sérii Lost Lands, kdo má rád hledání předmětů, používání hádanek je to přesně ta hra, kde se v klidu posouváte dál. Je to s příběhem, který je zajímavý, chtěla bych takových her víc, moc mě baví.
I absolutely LOVE this series, while the puzzles are a bit advanced there's always a skip button for those who get stuck!! But I have been playing this series since the beginning and this ones a great one as well!! Cool battle sequence at the end of the Main Game too in which if your not fast enough you will have to start it over and you cannot skip it either so think fast :) but its easy to beat if you know what to do and things!
This game starts out slow but picks up along the way. There's a lot of hunt and peck, back and forth in this at the beginning and I think, too many puzzles. In some parts one puzzle right after another. On the other hand, it's good to have a new game and it is a good game. When it comes right down to it, it's still Lost Lands and so I will recommend it. Give it a try. Susan the Warmaiden to the rescue!
I have all the Lost Land games and they are easily the best HOG's around by a mile. OK some of the puzzles are just that, Puzzling. But this game has so many as to be frustrating and a bit mind boggling (for me anyway). That doesn't detract from the sheer enjoyment of a real epic adventure. The scenes are incredible and the art work is beautiful. Big shout out to 5BN games. Lets hope this is not the last in this series either
