My Rift Racoon Video Review: https://youtu.be/axL0y_81PPA Is Rift Racoon the type of game that will drag you in and won’t let you out for a long time? One can find some positives here indeed - interesting game mechanics based on teleporting, interesting level design, nice retro graphics and soundtrack and cute racoon in the main role. However, there are many downsides preventing players (at least the casual ones) from enjoying the game properly - punishing rather than challenging gameplay, clunky controls, exaggerated emphasis in preciseness, absence of proper story, low variability and sterility of the environment, no upgrades or other RPG elements, early stereotype and also the absence of local multiplayer. I cannot really recommend this game for family playing as no one would probably enjoy collective suffering there. Pros: - original game mechanics - level design - graphics - soundtrack - cute racoon Cons: - punishing gameplay - controls - emphasis in preciseness - no proper story - variability of environment - no RPG elements - early stereotype - absence of local multiplayer Rift Raccoon promises the fun in good old 90’s platforming style. And it could be really delivered with more effort and sensitive implementation of modern game elements - mainly the more levels of difficulty, not to be so uncompromising when it comes to preciseness of your moves, responsive controls and some upgrades enhancing the gameplay. Like this I cannot really recommend the game and thus I am giving it Thumbs down and VideoGaming Father’s Index 4 out of 10 - not recommended.

Rift Racoon is yet another of literally thousands of 2D retro pixel platformers infesting Steam and lowering the average quality of all video games everywhere. This shovelware platformer is essentially a Construct 3 asset flip, it's stamped out by filling out templates in the construction kit. No real game development has taken place here, yet the "developer" who bought a Construct 3 license and spent half an hour filling out the template expects to be paid as if they are actually a game developer. Taking this into account, should we treat this seriously as a game? No. It's a cash grab. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the Construct 3 construction kit. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's worse than GameMaker Studio!). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Rift Racoon has an overly optimistic price of around $5 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam.
Rift Racoon is a retro-inspired precision platformer where players guide a teleporting raccoon through treacherous pixel-art levels. It offers a demanding experience filled with wall-scrambles, spike-filled puzzles, and teleportation that relies on rhythm. -Retro Charm Atmosphere: The sharp pixel graphics and succinct levels harken back to the golden age of platformers, making it perfect for those who appreciate tightly designed, challenge-oriented gameplay. Approximately 50 brief levels are available, lacking a narrative, which may leave some players desiring greater variety or a sense of progression. -Gameplay: The innovative teleportation mechanic employs a shadow-based teleport followed by a directional jump, facilitating creative navigation through obstacles and confined areas. The tactile wall scramble allows the raccoon to cling to and ascend walls before leaping upward, adding a satisfying element that enriches the movement experience. However, players should be aware of the control's difficulty. This game is a rewarding choice for hardcore platformer fans who enjoy precise, methodical traversal challenges. The teleportation and jump combination enables clever level design, but it teeters on the edge of frustration. If you appreciate perfect timing and pixel-perfect skills, this raccoon is sure to impress. Conversely, the steep learning curve and brief gameplay may become tiresome for some. I score this game 7 stones out of 10 rock and stone.
This was gonna be a thumbs-down at first, so consider this more of a thumbs-sideways. My first playthrough was so frustrating because of the diamonds, so much that I was dreading replaying this on Hard Mode... but I actually enjoyed that second playthrough quite a bit! My biggest fear was that Hard Mode was just gonna go the "cheap" way of removing checkpoints and that was gonna be it, but I was surprised to discover that no, it is actually exciting. So props to actually adding a creative modifier to levels, and they become fun to play when you no longer have to worry about the diamonds.
