As a connoisseur of the genre, I can say that this is my second favorite raising sim after Princess Maker 2. It's a game I always come back to despite all these years that have gone by. There is one important thing to think about before considering a purchase, though. There is some misinformation floating around that this version is the same as the PS2 one, which is not true. The console version was much more heavily censored (and had different gameplay). When I was new to Japanese PC games I thought "all age version" meant family friendly-ish, and therefore ended up purchasing this game. However, it seems to mean something closer to "everything between heaven and earth except adult-only content". Some scenes, themes, and visuals can appear to be disturbing to players who're not already deep into the anime fandom swamp. I think the game has both fun gameplay and great artistic merit so I don't regret my purchase - but the product page should come with some kind of content warning so customers can make an informed decision.
Everything is very slow, it is only possible to speed up the text, the scenes with dice rolling are incredibly slow and tedious. There is drama in the community about buying the steam version that is censored or buying the uncensored version elsewhere, and its absurd for the steam version to be censored. In my opinion, they're all a bunch of idiots with nothing to do, the difference is minimal, there's no need to have the eroge scenes, it's like in the manga Ghost in the Shell where the author removed the eroge pages and people cried blood, but didn't add anything to the plot. Rolling dice and looking at guides to find out which spell to unlock is too boring, if you don't look you'll be missing for a lot of chunk of the game and that's what the community should be complaining about, the game design.
I can't in good faith recommend this game to anyone who's just looking for a fun raising sim game. Even as an H game, it just didn't feel fulfilling at all. I did enjoy it half the time, but there's too many low points to ignore. Anyways the raising sim elements are kind of fun at first, but once you figure out how it works its just repetitive and grindy. Getting every ending takes a lot of time, and you'll be holding the skip button for most of the game haha. The romances are very cheaply written and feel out of nowhere, and the protagonist is pretty unlikeable and I honest to god don't understand what any of these women see in him, which is typical of your generic ecchi anime harems I guess. I feel maybe I could've put up with the literal child students being love interests if they maybe at the least hit puberty over the 3 year span you're given, but they don't even. Like... okay you know what, I see how it is. Even if you don't pursue the students' routes, there's still a lot of random event fanservice so there's no avoiding the you know what content. The characters are cute and I grew fond of the kids you're raising, but yeah... If you aren't the target audience then I just don't think this game is worth it. I got every ending out of morbid curiosity, but I don't recommend this lifestyle to anyone...the journey was painful and not without deep remorse. Anyways, if you /are/ the target audience, then you probably already know what you'll think about this game!! Oh yeah, note: I did use the uncensor patch lol, and this is the only case I've experienced in my life so far where I DEEPLY regretted it. The game is probably much better uncensored, even if it's still very... very uncomfortable during certain segments. Hahaaaaaaaaaaa man..... The game is written like and acts like these very obviously 10 year old girls are young adults, which just makes some parts very off putting. I'm sure you can imagine. Also I think the post game extras were terrible and made my experience worse. Anyways I need to move on with my life now.
The fundamental factor that will decide how much you like Littlewitch Romanesque is how you feel about a non-stop cavalcade of cute vignettes featuring an ensemble cast of silly girls getting into assorted mayhem. If you think a strong plot and high stakes is needed to keep your interest, then this probably isn't your game. This isn't to say that nothing of consequence happens in Littlewitch, at the heart of it all is a story about two young apprentice witches who gradually find their purpose and confidence through the study of magic. And almost every vignette in this game is slowly building up the larger world detail by detail. The game is lighthearted and low-stakes throughout most of it, but towards the end there's some really standout scenes where the girls learn some tougher life lessons. The first one that stood out to me was when our witches, Aria and Kaya, get a request to help drive off goblins who have been raiding a village.
On the way there Aria is kind of goofing off and talking about how easy and fun it's going to be to save the day... but when they arrive there they're too late and the damage is already done. They comfort a dying man who's filled with apprehension about who's going to support his mother after his death. In the end all they can really offer him is a chance to be part of his village forever as Aria fuses his essence with a sapling.
(minor spoiler for one scene) I also found some of the side-character-specific epilogues to be especially high quality -- they function as self-contained stories that develop the supporting characters more. It's in these epilogues that I'd say that Littlewitch really cashes in on all of the world-building the game has been slowly leading up to. What maybe doesn't work so well about the game is the pacing. To see everything, the game expects multiple playthroughs, but most of scenes are front-loaded in way where you'll probably see them during your first run. There's a related issue where the quest screen really isn't up to the task of letting you easily understand which quests are related to which route, and how much time each one has remaining. I think the game would have benefited from the routes being more isolated from each other and more on-rails. It's honestly quite fiddly to pursue particular routes. I'm also a bit lukewarm about the dice mini-game that's used during lessons. I think the foundational idea works, but in practice playing it doesn't involve a lot of creativity. Since the time management is quite strict, I think almost everyone will find themselves going through a pretty static rotation of the most effective spells by the end of the game. I think lowering both the amount of optimization needed and the amount of control you have over the dice might have been more fun.
Refunded this game after 20 minutes. Bought what I thought would be a modern raising sim like Ciel Fledge, received inappropriate drawings of the young girls that you were meant to be taking care of. The imagery leaves a bad taste, can't believe I had this in my library. I should have done my research.
我很不理解为什么你们惹本人的老游戏放steam上常常有英文却没有日文。要不是我以前真的很喜欢这个游戏就打差评了。
I am a 45 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing this game. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son got this game from his uncle, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So I decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. I loaded into the game, picked my character and world and started playing but I was stuck on what you where supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he hosted a game for me to join. I loved it as it was the best time I had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.
Bought because WITCHES! Stayed for the fun dice and spells and the compelling story.
Do contrário, acharia bastante perturbador >_>
adorable!!!!!!
