You know what's annoying? Making the majority of the enemies in your slow burn, puzzle centric survival horror game, fast, buggy 2D sprites that don't make a lot of noise and are bugs so they're really easy to miss as they're also usually the same color or similar to that of the floor, and if that wasn't enough why not also add ghost enemies that are EXTREMELY trial and error and basically force a floor restart if you're hit by one as they set your health to zero. For every cool thing this game does in the way of its puzzles and atmosphere, you're just one death by spider enemy spam away from uninstalling. I've reached my limit.
Went from scary to just annoying Make thew Health items completely heal. The wonky aiming doesn't make the game scary it is really just frustrating. The insanity meter seems fine. There is no difficulty in this game and no replayability. I have been playing through the green house level and I can see why less than half of the players have gone through this tiny level. Spamming attacks from behind is a poor tactic and is actually annoying before we level security(level2). The ambushes after interacting with an item happen every time you interact with a quest item. Why every time? it's actual not fun it gets annoying. I enjoy FPS games and the poor quality in control for this shooter or the shooter aspect is not fear inducing but actual just annoying when you have to constantly shoot tiny one hit kill spiders. The inability to control the player and then making a player jump around and run through one hit kill hazards is a ♥♥♥♥♥ move on your part. That is also annoying. The hit boxes and movement seem unfinished. Is the main character barefoot because every industry I worked in required shoes that would have rubber shoes and make the electric annoying cables not kill you every time you try to go through the nine rooms The fest or famine is a problem. I do actual want to enjoy this game. The Art style and plot are nice. The guns are Decent even if they could be better.
Right, so here's the thing about ZERO PROTOCOL: it's a tiny indie horror game that's nicked the soul of System Shock, stuffed it into a 283 MB file held together with spit and Russian error messages, and somehow - somehow - it works. I'm as surprised as you are. You're the head security guard at a secret Antarctic research base where everyone's gone spectacularly mad, and your job is to find out why before you join them. That's it. That's the hook. And honestly? It's brilliant. Six or seven hours of genuinely gripping story told through computer logs and notes, the kind of thing that has you leaning toward the monitor like a lunatic. The clever bit is the sanity meter, which isn't just there for decoration like in most games where it does sod all. Hit zero and you die. But - and this is the good part - some clues are literally invisible unless your sanity's in exactly the right range. Too sane? Can't see it. Too far gone? Can't see it either, plus now there are ghosts, and the ghosts would like a word. You top up sanity with sedatives or by solving puzzles, and lose it by getting spooked or, delightfully, by saving the game. Yes. Saving costs you sanity. Whoever thought of that is a beautiful sadist. Now, the combat. The combat is fine. "Fine" is doing a lot of heavy lifting there. Pistol for the polite enemies, shotgun for crowds, gunstock when you're out of bullets and out of dignity. The movement's wonky, the enemies look like they were drawn by someone describing a monster over the phone, and occasionally one just materialises out of thin air to ruin your trousers. The bodybags, by the way - when the game warns you about the bodybags, it isn't being coy. The real crime is that it's completely linear. Leave a floor and it's gone forever, no backtracking, no creeping back to that locked door you swore you'd return to. There's exactly one branching moment - vent or elevator - which forks into four endings, only one of which is what you'd call "good." And here's the kicker: one save slot, auto-overwritten at terrible moments, so seeing the other endings means deleting your save and starting the whole thing again. Lovely. It's rough. Crude pixel graphics, minor bugs, a flashlight with commitment issues, and a firewall prompt that pops up seventeen times like a needy flatmate. But underneath all that is a genuinely smart, atmospheric, surprisingly thoughtful little horror game with actual moral questions in it. Should you play it? Look, if you can forgive an engine held together with hope and you're actually here for the story, then yes. Get it on sale, obviously, I'm not made of money and neither are you. But play both branches, otherwise you've seen half a game and you'll wander about telling people you "finished it" like an idiot. And yes, the save system means doing the whole thing twice to manage that. I never said it was convenient. I said it was good.
out of all the survival horror clones i have played NOTHING reminds me more then a blend of System Shock, The Thing AND Alone in the dark the New Nightmare then Zero Protocol. The system shock vibes i get is from the main scenario of the base infastructure and the staff hasn't turned to mindless mutants and the puzzles are NOT simple and sometimes if your an overthinker can spend hours thinking of a solution when the problem is staring you STRAIGHT in the face. The Thing aspect of it is the Setting of the area. Your in Antarcita in a unknown base that you play the role of a staff member that is responsible for Security. to be more precise Head of Security. You feel the sense of vulnerability lonelyness and anxiety creep up on you unlike any other when your in complete isolation Alone In the Dark aspect. As i mentioned with Lonelyness and Anxiety. Darkness is your enemy and Sanity is creeping slow but fast. you treat every shadow as a threat every foot step and heavy breathing behind you as a "Something" and once your sanity gets lower...you hesitate on what is Real and what is fake at this point This game is a PERFECT blend on subtelty and tension that most tripple A games now actually miss. No Drama music from Star Wars. No Opera Chorus announcing Nemesis. Its just you..the Vents Your breathing and your footsteps that makes you question if your followed or not
