It's a kaizo platformer, so if you find surprise hidden blocks that punt you into an abyss as funny as I do, you'll have a great time. Death is more a part of the process rather than a punishment, so if you find dying 1000+ times by the end of your playthrough frustrating, this game might not be your cup of tea. (There is a death counter I'm not exaggerating here). Very important to note that the music is funky as hell, groovy even. The GB graphics are handled well, save for a few spots where it can be hard to see certain projectiles. Has some fantastic pixel art, especially during cutscenes. Biggest issue I had was with the numerous translation/localization errors in dialogue. They're a little too numerous to feel like a nostalgic throw back, and with the eloquent and cryptic speech you'll encounter it can make it a bit difficult to get invested in the story. There's also a few major bugs (Played on V1.0), most notably the game will sometimes get stuck on a transition screen and force you to restart, which can cost you some progress. All in all, I highly recommend it if you enjoy difficult platformers.
Its actually not that bad of a game it has its problems, but it looks alright. I like the textures actually I can see why most of the reviews saying the game bothers their eyes. I died so many time thinking i was jumping on a platform from way high up to only fall to my death when actually it was a cloud. Hard asf as well.
Amazing game so far, I don't know what these weenies are complaining about, the game is very generous with checkpoints, health and QoL features. Main game Celeste is more difficult than this and so is Garlic. My only wish is for steam achievements but that's hardly a gripe when the game is just fun by itself.
"Linked Mask" is an agonizing and brutally difficult platformer. It isn't for the average player, that's for sure. You have to be a fan of said genre to be able to enjoy this experience. Every move, every jump, every hit will make your heart pump! You'll feel a crazy adrenalin rush and you'll overflow from satisfaction upon a sweet victory or from rage when you, yet again, fail miserably and die for the 100th time... Carefully crafted with many skills to unlock. You can return to all places later on with new powers to try another route. The story is interesting though not really complex, it isn't the game for that anyway but it is catchy! The mechanics are simple in nature but hard in execution. They require extreme precision, focus, reflexes and skills. Again, it isn't for those looking to pass their time with a simple game. It's painfully hard. The checkpoints are usually fair to the player and well placed. Climb towers, unlock masks, fight challenging bosses. View it as a blessing or a curse but the gods wanted you to have this chance! The premise of this game is great. With a few fixes it would had been perfect. Unfortunately, as it is now, I can't say that. There are many confusing moments, for example, almost everywhere that our characters becomes a projectile and jumps from edge to edge non-stop till he reaches the end of the path. The real issue this game has is the responsiveness. To be able to perform so well and make the craziest stunt, only to die because he didn't jump or because you jumped but, the trajectory was different for no reason at all, is disheartening. Due to this behavior, it feels at times like a game of luck instead of precision. You can't rebind the controls. Still, even if it is sometimes unresponsive, I recommend this game because it is fun and a fine attempt at creating something so difficult. It could use a learning curve level and something to hook players more to the world at the beginning. Minor hickups aside, it is a game you'll want to play. It has a lot to offer and many great game mechanics. You kill a "god" and indeed, start feeling like one. An amazing concept that lacks some technical things. But those could be fixed in future updates. It can be completed and it's pleasant. I want to see more from the dev! Recommended to people who feel Jump King was too easy. This game is painfully difficult. Due to the graphical design, it can be difficult just to separate the platforms and dangers (e.g. spikes) from the background. You need to be both quick and accurate with every decision. The character feels incredibly heavy, lacks a much desired double jump, and slides around a little like everything is ice. There are plenty of checkpoints, yet it feels like there should be more. I found the fun was drained from me rather quickly as a result. It's a shame as I grew up playing lots of platformers on the Game Boy (Color). I enjoyed those, and still do on occasion. As I write this the reviews are mostly negative, and I think that makes sense. I hope the developer takes from these reviews and adjusts the game. Reducing the speed the character drops/falls/slides, making platforms and dangers easier to see, and maybe introducing a double jump (at the start).
If you know what you're getting into, this game is exactly that. If you don't know what Kaizo is, do your research before buying. I personally don't like the bosses so far, I'd died to them repeatedly until I find the way to early cycle them, but the levels themselves are fun if you're into the repetition til perfection thing. The mask rewards make the game more interesting, but I see no value in the extra weapons other than for a reason to go after the extra challenge (since again this is mostly a platformer not a fighter). Then again having a reason to go for the coins is nice.
[/olist]
