If you know what you're getting into, this game is exactly that. If you don't know what Kaizo is, do your research before buying. I personally don't like the bosses so far, I'd died to them repeatedly until I find the way to early cycle them, but the levels themselves are fun if you're into the repetition til perfection thing. The mask rewards make the game more interesting, but I see no value in the extra weapons other than for a reason to go after the extra challenge (since again this is mostly a platformer not a fighter). Then again having a reason to go for the coins is nice.
Very, VERY hesitant recommend, but with a massive caveat. The gameplay can be buggy and inconsistent. Camera tracking issues, softlocks forcing you to restart the level, gimmicks that feel out of place in a precision platformer and feel like they take control away from you. There's a good chance you'll be frustrated for the wrong reasons in this game... but man, the graphics, the music, the character designs are all great, and most of the gameplay is very good too! If you're able to put up with raw jank that screws you over sometimes, give this game a shot. Otherwise you'll probably want to skip the headache and find something else.

great game!
I've jumped around all of the levels, and completed none. It's obvious to me that's how it's going to be. The reality of the situation, I'm simply never going to finish any of the levels as I lack the skill required for this particular amount of precision. I think overall the levels seem to be well designed, but holy heck is it frustrating to get shot back quite a bit before trying once again to complete a difficult bit of platforming. There are checkpoints throughout levels, but not always in areas that mean you can avoid specific difficult portions again. I guess it's by design, and if I didn't die so often it'd of been completely fine. The game has an awesome gameboy look to it, a good soundtrack, and responsive controls. All of the things are there to give you a pretty enjoyable platformer - as long as you enjoy games that require absolute precision and punishing gameplay. I thought it'd be something I'd learn to enjoy, or at least push through. But it just feels like I'm never going to make progress and it's sucked all of the joy directly out of my veins. Still, I think levels are certainly something you can complete. It feels like a game I'd thoroughly enjoy if I was better. So, if you want something difficult, you might like this.
good game, does have kaizo sections but fun and nice style, does have some glitches though, hope it gets fixed. :)
It is a difficult game, but does little to keep the player engaged. In a time when time is scarce, I find it pretentious for a game to ask the player to grind levels by trial and error. This is not that big of a deal if the difficulty is spread thoughtfully and if it has a sense of progression. However, there are platforming sections that aren't too challenging, followed by contrived sections that suddenly demand little to no error. In addition, the levels drag for too long and could've been broken into multiple smaller sections to ease the engagement to the player. Also, there are hints for other tools or mechanics that could be used after completing each course, but since these are long sections, most players may lose interest in going on as they don't get rewards for completing smaller sections. The base character moveset is static throughout the level, except for the last sections where the challenge rises and a small new mechanic twist is put to the level. It is a nice challenge for the brave of heart willing to pour their grindy hours. But the game does little to keep your emotions engaged.
Game pulls no punches. Sometimes to an unfair degree. Still had a great time.
I really like the platforming in this game. It’s a lot of fun and I felt like I learned quickly how to get through levels. I know it’s a kaizo game (my first one, honestly), but I wish there was a lower difficulty setting that would just increase the number of checkpoints. I don’t really like playing the same 3-4 long screens 100 times just to have a glimpse at the 5th, guess incorrectly, and have to do it all again for a glimpse of the next screen’s challenge. The option for a checkpoint after each screen would be way more accessible. I was just interested in the story and eager to try more hard platforming. (However I was addicted to retrying to attempt to beat the 1st level, but that didn’t make it less frustrating.) To kinda estimate my platforming skill level - I did beat Celeste’s chapters A, B, & C (without assist mode), but I could not beat the final screen of Farewell DLC, which seems kinda kaizo-like. Another minor but annoying feature - the level picker map allows you to pick any of the 6 areas without unlocking them. I initially went to 2, played through a chunk of the level and then couldn’t move further without the level 1 mask (a YouTube test demo showed me how to surpass the unscalable wall with the mask). So I’m not sure why level 2 or others are playable before beating 1. More thoughts that others have mentioned: - the music is great. - I also had a hard time distinguishing spikes, background, obstacles, etc. due to the limited color pallet - I didn’t beat enough of the game to get a mask and try it out, so I can’t really judge that part of the game. But the starting area and level 1 (from the 6 levels in the level picker map) were fun - there were a few times where I got stuck in a wall in the bouncy ball areas and just died off screen, some minor similar bugs in level 1 I am recommending this game because I knew it was a kaizo game before purchasing and I think I realized that kinda over/punishing platforming just isn’t my thing (however I enjoy watching videos of others doing kaizo Mario, etc). The platforming itself in this game was fun and fluid, so if you can handle a kaizo game’s lack of checkpoints, try this one out. (Played on Steam Deck)
