A classic dungeon crawler! Recommended!
Instant classic.
Edit from negative review. On any big screen the ui scaling is incredibly tiny. When I changed the resolution, the screen turned into a half baked "full screen", the game screen being half of my screen with the background being black. This of course caused me to immediately write a negative review, only to later find out it needs to restart before being scaled properly. Updates or mentions of this in general would be nice. This game is a fantastic dungeon crawler. Dripping in atmosphere, secrets in lots of places, and sometimes secrets within those secrets. The battle system is good, moving around in a grid juggling enemies while trying to cast spells is exhilarating. Some negatives: Most puzzles are fun, sadly there's also the "you need specific thing without any clue. Don't have it? ♥♥♥♥ you then" types of puzzles but only a handful. Still sucks and you most likely won't be able to solve them unless you're the type that tries anything but whole. Also needing stuff that you might leave behind since there's a chance none of your characters use it for this playthrough, that is just stinky. The battle stats are weird in that you'd think you want your rogue to have more dexterity, but it doesn't do anything for your throwing/ranged weapons, they all need strength. So your best ranged fighters will be back row minotaurs.. And since ranged weapons never miss, that makes dexterity even more useless for them, only being useful for your front row weapon users. So weird. Again something that could be updated or at the very least mentioned that stuff doesn't work as it seems or just explanation in general. I've played through it three times now, finding out lots by myself which is a great dopamine activator. There's also mods for lots of replayability.
From everything I saw of this game, thought that it would be a decent recreation of a beloved classic called Dungeon Master. Sadly it is not even close. Though I do feel that they used some map elements and design from that game. From limited playability from your characters where they were stuck to a specific role and couldn't deviate out of that role, as it used to be great where even if you weren't usuing your primary fighters to cast fireballs they could cast simple light spells to save your spellcasters mana for battle, This also allowed you to skill youir ranged attackers to have some spell capabilities once they ran out of throwables or ammo, to not being able to ready up all your characters to have an advantage of first attack and finally not even being able to set traps and getting the monsters stuck beneathe a door to give you a small edge when fighting stronger monsters. It begs the question how could a game 20 years old give you greater versitility in gameplay compared to a newer adaptation.
