Just a silly goose good time. The writing is fun and funny, the combat is interesting enough that I don't find myself getting bored, and the characters are all fun to interact with. Zero complaints so far.
It's so cuuute! And funny. And hot. And suprisingly emotional at times. I really loved all the characters of the group. Fantastic voice acting. Gameplay was enjoyable too. Had a few minor issues where bonding scenes didn't match the area I was in, or a few repeating lines, but nothing game- or immersion breaking. An immediate favourite!
Hilarious story, fun strategy, lovable cast!
I just finished my first play through on Steam Deck (worked great btw!). I've already booted up the game again to try a harder difficulty and change up some of my choices/love interest(s). I think this game is well worth your money given the quality of the content. If you're a fan of VNs and your favorite parts of RPGs are the love interests, then this is a must-buy! Pros: - Gorgeous art! - Clever writing with a lot of heart (and ♥♥♥♥ jokes). You can tell it was written by humans who cared a lot about this project <3 It took me about an hour to get invested in the story, but after that I was hooked up until the end! - Unique cast of party members (and LIs). The writing did a masterful job transforming character traits that can feel grating on first meeting into something you eventually come to love about the character (e.g. I wasn't super into Jazz's whole schtick at the start, and but around mid-game she'd transformed into one of my favorites in the party!) - Interesting strategy around combat, and ability to replay battles to retry for missed quest rewards Cons: - Since there's no going back in the story due to autosaves, there were times I accidentally selected the wrong choice, and was locked into it. I was bummed when I messed up a selection on a form and missed out entirely on
a spicy scene with Cazian
- No ability to skip "Read" content on replays. I chose a love interest who was monogamous on my playthrough, and want to play again with other LIs, but unlike other VNs, I can't skip through dialogue I've already seen in a previous run
DRAGON ♥♥♥♥♥
I had a wonderful time with game, the humour and va work were on point and the combat was straightforward enough a challenge but the additional bonus really helped add that tactical element. Well worth the price
Auto save functions with no choice of manual saving is a bad gameplay decision for the type of game they are marketing. The messaging for choice matters is pretty clear but it's like they did no research into the audience that would buy this sort of game, or what other games of similar styles provide and why people play them. Spoiler alert - People play these types of games to be entertained and explore all the fun dialogue you guys spent your time creating. People do not like wasting there time having to play the entire game over just to experience something slightly different Gameplay loop so far is ok. combat, talking, funny humor, and story is overall entertaining but the lack of being able to save is a big miss. Whoever, decided this did little to no research into the audience that would buy the game and until they fix I couldn't recommend for the price point as it misses the mark for what people look for in these type of VN ish games. I know the biggest argument is that they didn't want the burnout system to not matter but TBH that system feels less of core gameplay feature and more of a ..We put this in here along with the no save feature so you would be forced to replay the game from start to finish multiple time therefor inflating the time it takes to experience all the game has to offer.... Most (but not all) prefer quality over quantity as in current state it feels like the developer is just wasting my time. Edit: After playing some more I would highly not recommend this as they lock content behind purely aggravating mechanics tied to combat, which forces you to consistently have to restart over and over because you accidentally fail do to random factors. (Such as a characters retaliating attack critting and killing an enemy which has to be killed in a certain way.) Whoever thought this was fun game design should be fired as it forces you to do the same thing over and over again just to inflate game time. Not a fun mechanic and horribly designed. still 0/10 would not recommend.
For all its snark and spice (which I equally enjoy), Ledgerbound is a beautiful game with a compelling narrative and a cast that I found myself caring about wholly by the end, and a story I felt no less invested in either. Combat is simple but fun, felt satisfying to get strategies going even if they were basic. Camp time management can be a little iffy, but with equal shares of heartfelt moments and humour it doesn't feel too bad to have to skip out on one conversation or another. (There has also been a setting added recently to toggle off time management if it is such a dealbreaker!) Each of the party members' stories felt unique and grounded in the world too, I never found myself bored in talking to anybody. Romances also have plenty of rewarding connection and spice if that's what you're after too. Overall, full marks, the only issue I ever really had was with initial bugs both in the demo and nearby the release itself, but all the major ones that I'm aware of have been corrected!! Thank you for the opportunity to experience this story :)
The game is great, but can it provide more language support?
This game feels like an Adult Disgaea. Disgaea's strength was its quirky take--the Evil Overlord's son went on a quest to find his father and the comedy and quirkiness along the way made it legendary. While I don't know if this game will reach that kind of crowd, the comedy and quirky flair is there. Strengths--- Voice Acting --A great Crew of actors and actresses make moment to moment gameplay fun. It feels like characters you'd find at your most memorable D&D group. Rayna's voice Actress feels like Bocci from the eponymous anime, if she were a Life Insurance Adjuster. Her enjoyment of battle during fights is fun, while her practical take outside of battle gives her a bit of straightwoman energy to the crazy world around her. Combat -- Combat may seem simple, but at medium difficulty, achieving the objectives for the best rewards is difficult, making it easy to win, but challenging to master. I haven't played the game far enough to see companions upgrade classes, but Rayna can take her abilities in at least one of two directions and likely more later in the game. These Promotions suggest the game has replayability beyond getting perfect marks, which for a 30 dollar game is encouraging. Cons???? I put question marks here because depending on your feeling, some of these may not be cons, but I'm putting them here because this is my review. Firstly -- The writing is very horny. You may remember I mentioned Disgaea earlier and you may say "That game was horny" and I see your point, but it picked its moments. There were characters you'd expect to be so, and the game picked its spots. In Ledgerbound, it seems ever present--The party has an HR character that feigns speech of avoiding harassment and picking moments to introduce a romance system. But it just sort of seems like if you are intrigued by characters enough to chat with them more than a few times, and you have to "bond" with them, date options seem inevitable. The amount of characters into Polyamorous relationships as well seems to suggest they'd rather let the player chat with everyone, relations be darned, rather than figure out ways the user can prioritize one character. There are times this game feels more like Date Everything than it does a Tactical RPG. Clearly, I don't anticipate this will bother everyone like it bothers me, and it isn't intense enough yet to keep me from playing the game, but be wary. The Workload Mechanic - It isn't so much that this is a negative--there's a lot of clever things tied to this feature--your main protagonist gets overloaded and having a higher rating can affect their capability in battle. It may affect team members eventually, and if it does, it'll be less negative, because it's a brilliant way to encourage the user to choose team members carefully, but as far as I've gone, I can't opt to have Rayna or others miss a battle to rest and within a few battles, it felt like I was over-worked and even doing my best to rest by talking to party members, I seem overworked after every battle. Either the game needs to do a better job explaining the system, or they should consider reworking the system a bit. I shouldn't have to feel like I need to talk to every party member just to gain enough rest or fun. And to that end, they have a timer that confirms it. So it's just a tough mechanic to get used to. I may edit this review after I finish the game. I hate to rate it without finishing it, so I'll just say it's above average and save my rating for that later edit.
Ledgerbound ended up being a lot of fun for what is pretty much just a visual novel. I loved the characters and how they developed over the course of the story, the voice acting was excellent, and there was a ton of humor that I found enjoyable. The combat sections were fun even if they weren't super in depth. The main challenge was trying to achieve all 3 goals in one try. I do wish there was more customization in terms of how you approach each battle. I don't think I really used half of the team's special abilities and most of the liabilities just didn't seem worthwhile. It was usually just easier to brute force the combat than try to get clever with it, which is really my only issue. Still had a great time with it, and have recommended it to friends. At least, the horniest of my friends. There's a lot of sex talk. Some people might not enjoy it, but I'm not one of them.
